The council needs to start explaining what's happening with the regeneration project.
They must have bought a lot of properties down there with compulsory purchase orders.

Good luck to Lee and Louisa ! What a brilliant initiative. The local Council would do well to sit with this couple and see how they can help. It does not have to cost money. A bit of red tape cutting would help. They could maybe find space for a Community hub somewhere.

Excellent upload indeed, & a good interview. What a lovely couple.
( My Mother used to be a barmaid in the Blue Bell pub )
Visiting the area over the years since 1982 it is sad to see the decline which unfortunately is common in the once thriving high streets. Good luck indeed to the new pub owners & will surely say good day on my next visit.

I'm from sunderland and had a mate who lived near the pear tree on sunderland road , spent a lot of Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons on the high street in the early 90s blue bell , the Grove, curlys , the traf and if we had owt left dinner in Gloucester on the sunday
Was always busy and full of characters .
Been through it a few times since , very sad .
Have really fond memories of the high street ,they were great days

Thanks for starting out at my favourite pub. The Microbus and The Station East are the beating heart of Gateshead which attracts excellent musicians and bands to complement their excellent and very reasonably priced craft beers. As for the southern part of The High Street it needs pulling down and replaced with open spaces which could bring some much needed beauty to this bleak area!

Nice to see a spark of life back in the old place, my Mam used to work in Shephards as well. My Nana lived on Rochester Street in a home she had eleven kids in until the council compulsory purchased it and knocked it down for the horrible 70's things they put up. Gateshead council have a lot to answer for I think

Haven't seen Gateshead High Street for about 30 years as I've moved away. Although I'd heard it had declined, I am shocked at just how much. Trinity Square looks fab now though. Good on them at the Tynesider for injecting life back into the high street. It is a fantastic idea because so many older people don't feel safe at night but still want to go out. Very impressed with the Railway Quarter because that used to look so dingy and dirty but now it looks bright and welcoming. Can't wait for your next video.

The luftwaffe did less damage to Gateshead High Street than the Liebour controlled council has done
What needs to be investigated is the £23 million wasted on building a locked up never used car park and the wasteland next to The Sage where the supposedly £90 million original cost of an unwanted or needed music venue in direct competition to The Sage has ballooned to £350 million
This invisible venue was supposed to be built and operational this year
Gateshead High Street is best avoided, it's literally the dirty back lane leading to the bright lights of the big city

I worked as an engineer on the trinity square project and thought at the time this could suck the life out of the town.Giving everyone the same shiny anodyne version of a town they’ve got elsewhere isn’t gonna bring money to a place. Its character that makes you want to come to a place and that’s formed by generation on generation of people of the place and what they bring to it.
The place you didn’t go was the black bull.I regularly run up as it’s something of a legend on the punk scene as much as trillians is on the rock and metal scene and the punk scene is much bigger than people realise(big influence on a lot of current massive bands and the festivals get serious numbers)and Maz that runs the place goes back to the broken doll on westgate rd and has seen them all and still knows most.Great people, should definitely put a bit of a spotlight on them. One of the many varieties that are the spice of life making a place special

This situation is common in high streets all over the country. The wealth distribution has changed drastically over the last thirty years. Over aggressive traffic wardens killed that high street for me. Pounced as soon as I parked outside of, and went into the Post Office a good while ago. Was parked only a couple of minutes. Appealed to council, and told they had zero tolerence parking rules and NO grace period at all. People wont go to shops if they get fined for doing so. Looks like the awful council are still happy to keep aggressively destroying Gateshead.

Wish something could be done about people putting their crappy graffiti tags on everything.... I see some of the same tags all over every part of Newcastle / Gateshead city centre and most of the suburbs. It really brings areas down. 'Broken window theory' is real.

Yes well we painted over the ones on our block and enquired about the other which are private and council owed.

Yeah, Gateshead, like most old town centres in the dying….. Such a shame to see this happening all over.

Gateshead hosted the garden festival and allegedly was funded in thousands to help projects did it happen no coatsworth rd and the high street have been left to rot 😢so well done to the people from the tynesider age uk micro bar and the few existing bars encourage ment is needed to welcome the locals back and the few hundred students housed in the Tesco student accommodation

    All high streets are inactive
    Thanks to metro centres

Having lived in various places around the country this is the same story in most places. Retail parks drawing trade out of the high streets is the death of the high street and places near to somewhere larger such as Newscatle have the double problem of retailers going into Newcastle as it is near and the Retail Parks. I think the high streets have to shrink and the property get repurposed so they don't look like a wasteland.
