    I like the Wulff pattern in general and the royal version looks awesome. Thanks for the very cool tie. Takes a lot of talent Angler!

      Thanks Bob! So my cough got bad. I through my back out from coughing so much on the drive home. Cant barely move. LOL. Silly me, should have taken better care of myself on our trip! That was well worth the cough though! HAHA. Fun fun time man!

      McFly Angler Oh no! Not a good combo. Probably hurts like heck every time you cough or sneeze. I don't envy you for sure. Hope you heal up soon!

    Nice video! Great variant on a classic pattern. Krystal Flash and the like also works nicely if incorporated with EP/Congo Hair type wings on Wulffs and parachutes. It really helps tiny flies stand out for guys like me with less than ideal eyesight.

      Thanks! So I agree, adding a bit of flash is not a bad thing at all! Not just for the fisherman to see, but for the fish as well.

    nice tie!. i like to tie mine with a thin copper wire spiral on the red floss section.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  5 років тому

      Thanks! So For sure about the wire. Lots of people do that, and that totally makes it look nicer. However i don’t like adding any extra weight to a dry fly. I’d rather it float longer than look better. It probably doesn’t add enough weight to make a difference though, but mire in my mind type of thing. Lol.

    I have a question. In your opinion, for a beginner to intermediate fly fisherman like me, would you buy or tie? I’ve been considering picking up a vise from duranglers as I get better at fishing.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  4 роки тому

      I would say, if you could enjoy tying, and dedicate time to perfect it then tie. Otherwise, buy them. It’s not like you can just buy some thread, vise and hooks and start to make flies that will be as good or better than you can buy. It will take months or years of practice. But if you work hard at perfecting the tying, then you can at one point end up making flies that are better than you can buy from a shop. And it’s nice to tie and make something that you cannot find, like something with different colors and what not. Hope that helped.

    I tied a few up using para post wings. Much easier than calf hair, but they seem to slip (rotate) around the hook. Any suggestions ?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  2 роки тому +1

      So that can happen yeah. Very tight thread wraps when you first tie it in. The other thing is put a dot of super glue the base of the wings after you post them up. Good luck man!

    Here in UK nobody I know has heard of Congo Hair. Can anyone tell me who makes it and where to get some?
    Thanks
    Tom

    • @McFlyAngler

      Well it’s pretty much the same thing as EP fiber but it’s made by a company in the states... it’s a lot more reasonable price. Like $3/bag vs $8/bag for EP fiber. But if you have white EP fiber it will work exactly the same. I’m not sure about international shipping with the company that sells Congo hair. But you can ask them. Here is their website. Royal Wolff?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  2 роки тому

      The name of the fly pattern is called royal wulff, made by Lee wulff in the 20’s. It’s an old and classic pattern
