    A very long time ago when I was pretending at Berklee, an incredible bass player friend of mine asked if I wanted to see him play. Little did I know he was playing with Bill, tiny little club it was an eye/ear opener. There were those that were destined for greatness he was obviously one of them. Wonderful is all to say

      @@nedgrant918 I pretended as well mid to late 70s For some reason the bass players name escapes me at the moment but his first name was Bob. Had the most beautiful German flatback bass that I have ever heard. Great years there with the Metheny brothers etc etc

    remember Frisell in a lot of records expecially ECM record of BASS DESIRES with M. johnson and JScofield.an incredible recording sound and a Frisell passionate And psychedelic with Synth guitar,together with a great Sco,what a solo in resolution, powerful johnson. and the perfect Erskine. ciao from Italy!

    To me, a great artist is one you recognize from the first note. You knew Miles. You knew Coltrane. You knew Abercrombie. You knew Jim Hall. You know Scofield. They have a sound and approach that defines them. Frisell is that way. I don't have to watch a video to know it is him; it is wrapped up in his tone (that R&B and Country feel will always be there), how he uses space and time, and the material he chooses to tackle.

      true!! greats have THEIR sound. dont mind technique. we recognize a great one from the notes he's playin. they are unique. problem is when you copy a great one you have same sound.lol ciao from italy

      Bill's right hand technique is very, very similar to Jim Hall's. Obviously a big influence on him. Bill is still different in his own way, though...

    Bill’s music is a true treasure. We caught the Harmony tour in a very small venue about a week before the pandemic blew up in early 2020, and that show was just other worldly. For those who haven’t seen him live, please do so at your earliest convenience and you will NOT be disappointed!

    Once I've asked a young trained and talented guitar player who his favorite player would be. He didn't hesitate: ""Bill Frisell". That was when I started looking (listening) and paying attention.

      The word "Master" gets thrown around too liberally for my liking but Bill is absolutely a true Master of the guitar.
      He is indeed a treasure.

    Il y a beaucoup de musiciens qu’on peut aimer, puis se lasser. Ça n’est pas absolument pas le cas avec Bill Frisell, tant la musique qu’il joue ne s’encombre que de l’essentiel, sans artifices, ni effets..

      Rudy Royston, drums. Thomas Morgan, bass. Basically Bill's trio for the past decade. Both just sensitive as can be. Rudy Royston is probably my favorite drummer today. And that's with Chris Dave, Mark Guiliana, Brian Blade, and a _bunch_ of heavy cats.

    Obviously Bill is a guitar and musical genius but ashame the camera man couldn't get one decent angle of him.

      I agree, it was one of the first steps and we tried different videographers until we found the best ones. It was a search at the very beginning of the project and not everything worked out well right away.
