- Hampi is one of the most impressive sites to visit in India. Inscribed as UNESCO Heritage site (quote from unesco.org): "The austere, grandiose site of Hampi was the last capital of the last great Hindu Kingdom of Vijayanagar. Its fabulously rich princes built Dravidian temples and palaces which won the admiration of travelers between the 14th and 16th centuries."

Rajasthan and Kerala have a very good tourism department compared to other states. Every State in India have 1000 years of history with it, they are unique. Karnataka is one of the underrated state, its like Kerala and Rajasthan in one.

I was operating India's first white water jet boat in the rapids on the upper Ganges upstream of Rishikesh from November to March. The rest of the year I was free to travel. From there I hiked to some of the Temples of Shiva. Came face to face with a tiger, wild elephants and black leopards. There is so much to see, do and learn in India. It was a trip to Hampi 27 years ago that started me on a many year hiking adventures in western India. Now I am worn out at age 70 and a very happy guy I did what I could when I was young enough to do it. Don't wait!

The correct name for the empire is Karnataka. It was always known as Karnataka Saamrajya, not Vijayanagara samrajya.
Just to be sure the official language of Vijayanagaram was Telugu.

THE STORY OF HAMPI: The Vijaynagar Empire was one of the most powerful in the World. Hampi, their caipital, is said to have been 60 miles in scope. A Persian traveler to Hampi described it as “the most beautiful city that has ever entered the pupil of the eye”. It was ravaged by the Deccan Sultanates in the Battle of Talikot in 1565. The Vijaynagar Empire was winning the battle when suddenly, two of the Muslim generals of Vijaynagar committed treason and beheaded Rama Raya, the King of Vijaynagar. His army became disorganized without their leader and were scattered. These are ruins of the once great civilization. The Deccan Muslim Sultans worked day and night with fire and iron rods to destroy Hampi. It is said they took 5 months to reduce the city to rubble. They is the story of Hampi

These historical Temples are administration by ASI (Archilogical Survey of India) if it needs to be developed..they ASI is only organization have to do it.
Local administration don't have power to do it.
Bahumani Sultans destroyed this place ( Kingdom of Vijaynagar Empire) after Talikote- RakkasaTangadi War. They barbaric army men took more than six months to destroy these architectural wonders.!
A lot of locals living would not be a great idea in such a place.

Now, im not blaming muslims, it was a different time, and we cant blame an entire culture or religion by the actions of a few! Millions of ancient cities have been destroyed, sadly this was one of them... Anger wont bring it back, all we can do is work to make sure the future is beautiful :)

We live pretty near to Hampi this place just out of the world,
when it rains it looks mesmrising,when we are feeling down it looks calming
,in dusk it looks captivating,when its sunny it looks like its beaming
I remember visiting Hampi when I was only 6 years old from that day to this day lot of things changed in Hampi,but it was more beautifull in those days.we used to play music in those stone pillars rode on stone chariot.part of our childhood memories.heard stories of hidden treasure tried o search for treasure based on those stories.🙂🙂🙂

India is an amzing country with extreme long and rich history and heritages. It's big pity that i once visited all big cities of India except Karnataka.
Not only u but many people ignore karnataka, they just go for Kerala, tamil nadu and other places.

The combination of scale and intricacy of this architecture is mind blowing considering these ruins are from over half a millenia ago. The detailed stone work is more impressive than even Roman and Greek monumental works.

Hampi is so beautiful, I'm crying from seeing such beauty - and just imagining it whole and bustling with people! If only I could travel, this would be the one place I would want to visit!
The beauty in the design of this place is so awe inspiring! I've always loved big rocks/boulders, and the way the architecture here elevated the natural environment, bringing the two together, is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! It's also incredible to me that even functional elements are elevated with beautiful designs, every single part becoming a unified whole of the built structures and the natural environment!
