I was operating India's first white water jet boat in the rapids on the upper Ganges upstream of Rishikesh from November to March. The rest of the year I was free to travel. From there I hiked to some of the Temples of Shiva. Came face to face with a tiger, wild elephants and black leopards. There is so much to see, do and learn in India. It was a trip to Hampi 27 years ago that started me on a many year hiking adventures in western India. Now I am worn out at age 70 and a very happy guy I did what I could when I was young enough to do it. Don't wait!

The whole city was full of gardens, and because of them, as an Italian visitor in 1420, Nicolo Conti writes, the circumference of the city was sixty miles. A later visitor was Paes, a Portuguese who came in 1522 after having visited the Italian cities of the Renaissance. The city of Vijayanagar, he says, is as "large as Rome and very beautiful to the sight"; it is full of charm and wonder with its innumerable lakes and waterways and fruit gardens. It is "the best-provided city in the world" and "everything abounds." - Jawaharlal Nehru, The Discovery of India

All along these 70 years our history prior to Mughals was suppressed because of the family that ruled, were the employees of Bajadushah Jafar, the last Mughal. That Kotwal in Mughal Darbar called Giyasuddin Gazi changed the name to Nehru and deceived Indians depicting themselves as Hindus for centuries.

3:27 amazing view of ruins . This is one of worlds richest kingdom 1522 as per a Portuguese traveler. But after battle of Talikota in 1565 the Persian , Afghans backed invaders plundered the city. Robert Sewell, in his book The Forgotten Empire, concludes thus - "With fire and sword, with crowbars and axes, they carried on day after day their work of destruction. Never perhaps in the history of the world has such havoc been wrought, and wrought so suddenly, on so splendid a city; teeming with a wealthy and industrious population in the full plenitude of prosperity one day, and on the next seized, pillaged, and reduced to ruins, amid scenes of savage massacre and horrors beggaring description.

Hampi is so beautiful, I'm crying from seeing such beauty - and just imagining it whole and bustling with people! If only I could travel, this would be the one place I would want to visit!
The beauty in the design of this place is so awe inspiring! I've always loved big rocks/boulders, and the way the architecture here elevated the natural environment, bringing the two together, is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! It's also incredible to me that even functional elements are elevated with beautiful designs, every single part becoming a unified whole of the built structures and the natural environment!
I don't have the words to describe how I feel seeing this footage, oh I wish I could see this with my own eyes! I'm just going to be here, crying with awe 💛
