Hey! Awesome! This is *very* close to a traditional Comanche recipe in my box. My mother's family are old Texans and intermarried with lots of local natives. Dried beef (bison really) plays a big part in the recipes of Texas women trying to integrate several centuries ago.

Wow! Nice! The dried beef keeps well and can feed a lot if mixed with other ingredients like this. I can see how it was a staple centuries ago.
@ I didn't want to offend, so I was relatively nice, but one of your other viewers mentioned using "jerky" in place of dried beef. Believe me, I've made that mistake... If you do, the whole meal tastes like Slim Jims or Jimmy Dean or whomever makes jerky. Dried beef and beef jerky are WORLDS apart in terms of flavor and processing and ingredients. Merry Christmas!

No offense taken.😊You are spot on. Machacado is made from beef and salt. I have had jerky that was made with beef salt and pepper before and I would try it if it was all I could get my hands on. I wouldn't use a flavored jerky but if you can only get your hands on minimally flavored or processed jerky then it may work. 😊
I used to love when my mom made tortillas and I would always get that little bit of masa that was left over for a tiny tortilla I would let it get crispy and slather butter on it. 😱 it was the best ever. This breakfast looks so good. Gonna make some now.
Wow. Thank you SO much for this recipe! My nana would make this all the time growing up and now that I’m in my mid 20’s, I never was able to remember the name of it... thank you thank you!!!
Yumm! Looks so good & Ur tortillas look so yummy too! I’ve made some flautas w carne seca too and they were so good. I love that the carne seca has a long shelf life & doesn’t take much to make a meal. Thanks for sharing your machacado.
We buy the whole slab of dried beef from Mexico every time my mom visits family then we have to shred it ourselves or we just eat it like jerky from the slab.
If I may... Dehydrating your own beef without 'jerky' seasonings is far preferable. If you use commercial jerky for almost ANY recipe, your dish will only taste of jerky.
@@jamesdooling4139 Good call, I've been considering that option also, our local wholesale market has sliced beef rounds fairly cheap. And I was thinking of using those.
I wish machaca was easier to find in the USA. When I used to travel to Texas or Mexico I would always get a few pounds but it is even hard to find on the intranet right now especially. I have seen people put beef jerky in a blender but it is not as good as the real thing. Good video.
Hard to find? I live in Albuquerque New Mexico and I find it all the time. Like every Mexican or new mexican restaurant has it. U have to make it urself. The grocery store isn't going to have it dehydrated the way u want it, all u gotta do is make a chuck roast in the slow cooker over night and in the morning do what this lady did, and u got Machaca. My grandma made this for me every week growing up and I make this every week OR chorizo and egg. Never even left the US. U don't need to order anything off the internet Lol I actually consider it cheating that she used packaged meat instead of just buying some chuck. It's not special meat it's just chuck or shoulder. U can dry it urself in minutes.
The ones I made in this video are butter flour tortillas. I used unsalted butter. Sometimes I use lard or if I have no lard or rendered bacon fat I use shortening. 😊
Simply Mamá Cooks awesome! I may buy a small can of lard and try it out. My mom used to make them with lard back in the day. Thanks for sharing your videos. They're awesome!
Cool video and thank you for the pointers 🙂 … just side note, those are not taco’s. When you have a regular “normal size” flour tortilla putting stuff into it, it is now then called a burrito. When you have a corn tortilla and or a smaller in size flour tortilla (like the size of the “normal” corn tortilla…. It is called a taco and that corn tortilla sized flour tortilla can now be called a taco.
Great recipe but I'd sub the packaged crap for actual meat slow roasted in the instapot over night. Wake up early and salt it and throw it in the fridge, let it dry, THEN do what u did. What I do like about ur recipe is literally everything else. U did everything from scratch except the meat which u used packaged meat for some odd unknown weird reason and I am being harsh because this is an A+ authentic recipe that is literally just missing that little bit of extra effort.to.make it fantastic. If u really fill those tacos up and make the tortillas a little smaller u can sell those tacos 3 at a time. Gringos would pay like $8 a plate. Real talk. Real question tho, why do ur tortillas bubble? I come from New Mexico and our tortillas don't bubble up like that. Just a little bit then u flip. But ours are a lot thicker. Im assuming it has something to do with the composition of the masa? -chef vencedor
This is one of my favorite breakfast dishes! When my mom made tortillas, I was the first one in line with butter. I loved when my mom made them!!
Okay, but the flour tortillas puffing up is sooo satisfying to watch lol. 😋😋
I love watching the tortillas puff up!
Omg !! This brings back memories. My dad and I used to go out for breakfast every Saturday and I used to order this all the time.❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love this, but I can never find the beef, I have to actually get beef jerky and throw it in a blender.
That works! 😊

Simply Mamá Cooks thanks, you rock!!!!
I'm drooling on my keyboard...
👍😄
We're do you buy the meat ?
I had no idea this was supposed to be dried beef. I always just used leftover roast or barbacoa.
U can make it that way too. Might be the best with dried beef tho.
My abuelita would be so proud of how your tortillas bubble up! 😭
Interestingly dried meat plus melted fat is pemican a ancient traditional native food.
No

Machaca is not "packaged crap". do a little research on it and it's origins. I think you'll find it enlightenment.
