I wonder what fruit it was in the original story- pumpkins don’t grow on trees, so I think when this was translated someone must have changed it to be more easily understood by non-Africans. I looked up some fruit trees that grow in east Africa, and I think the one that best fits other contextual clues (such as how it has a seed, and tastes sweet) it could be a pawpaw. Now I really want to try one lol, the page I’m reading says they’re supposed to taste like a cross between a banana and a mango. Anyway, I’m not looking for anyone to debate me on this, I was just sharing my random tangent I researched tonight cause I couldn’t sleep. Hope you all are well! Goodnight 💤
I found your comment interesting. I, too, was thinking that pumpkins don't grow on trees but I never thought to do the research. Perhaps it was a paw-paw? I can't believe you've never tried one! Actually, I can't stand the smell or taste of a paw-paw. I just found out that there is a paw-paw that grows in Pennsylvania which they saw tastes like a cross between a banana and mango. In which case, that would be awesome. Sadly, though, the paw-paws that grow in Australia don't taste like that to me. There is a relative of the paw-paw called a Babaco and I have heard that they taste a lot more pleasant that our paw-paws. I'd like to try one of those. I did not find the story disturbing compared to some of the things I read and see these days on the news and on social media.
