I’m 105 years old and still listening to this record while I sip my Metamucil
Raises glass of prune juice
One of the hardest, angriest records ever written. We’ve basically spent 30 years trying to catch up.
So nice. Thanks for the kind words.
This will never be topped....no point trying either....
@@trefwoordpunk2225 why thank you very much! I come and visit to see if people still come to listen. Not selling it anywhere but please pass it on to everybody you know. Play it for everybody that's the ultimate for me is listening ears
@@trefwoordpunk2225 💯
Absolutely. Fuckin raging insanity. Pure rocknroll
1. Dead Stare For Life
Past-forward, pause, rewind
Look Back, now well-aged and lined
Decrepit and nearly, blind
Pity how time flies
Dead stare for life
2. Past Tense
A lifetime spent standing still
Like dead flies gathering on a window sill
A sibling disgrace who believes to be
The broken limb in the family tree
PAST TENSE
Too late to save, pulse stand still
A dry-lunged solo death rattle
Regret in a tear-filled trance
A never forgotten remembrance
PAST TENSE
3. Sarcastics
Please explain me to me
Tell me what I'm all about
You're the one who knows me best
Tell me why am I depressed
Tell me what I'm all about
Turn my pockets inside out
You're the one who knows me best
Tell me why am I depressed
4. Distant
It's a matter of indifference,
or is it?
If I were to say I was sad
about it
I could use the word "empathy
But who gives a fuck? Not me
Calloused and Jaded
To who am I related
5. Hurt
Problems they persist
Hard times shatter windows with fists
Yet still the problems they persist
Hard times carve open wrists
Yet still the problems they persist
Hard times shout, curse and spit
Yet still the problems they persist
Hard times cloud eyes with mist
Yet still the problems they persist
Problems they persist
6. Hacked To Chunks
Education promised a helpful head start
Now home sweet home is a shopping cart
"Tomorrow Never Knows", penned a Beatle
Later shot dead. "Imagine all the people"
The radio weeps the 12-bar blues
Television breaks the daily news
Life's the word we're told to choose
Time stands still win or lose
Living on time known as borrowed
Here today gone tomorrow
7. Lament
Such a struggle to overcome
the grip of self-destruction
MIND-TIED WORSE THAN CONFUSED
Emotionally scarred
from the heat of hate
I contemplate my expiration date
Mind-tied worse than confused now
Such a struggle to reason why
to convey the problems on my mind
Mind-tied worse then confused now
To scratch the surface of escape
at a loss for words I can't relate
Mind-tied worse than confused
Losing words I choose
8. Soiled By Hate
Caught in a web of sever distress
Prayed upon by nothingness
Buried alive in a grave of despair
Soiled by hate and a lack of care
A dance of pins and needles
9. Downsided
I myself, no one else
My world Hell, an empty shell
Mine in pain
Yours not mine, thin or swine
Rain no shine, dead in time
Mine in pain
Misunderstood, never could
Never tried, always lied
Mine in pain
10. Push Down & Turn
Confined within my bedroom cell
Here by choice outside is Hell
Isolated to myself
I hurt inside but I'll never tell
More than just a passing phase
Living on self-numbered days
Masquerading my inner rage
This is my Patter of change
Try after try, I'll never learn
There's only one way out...
Push down & turn
36. Curtains
Floating somewhere between then and now
A state of mid lost as well as found
Through winding trails of soul illusion
Forget about the pain, the suffering,
the disillusion...
Just turned 14 not that long ago and I’m bumpin old school 90s west coast powerviolence much love from the bay
Back in high school my friend and I would group-order a bunch of shit out of MRR ads. One order he bought this 7" and I bought the first Crossed Out. Our lives changed forever!
I don't know how much money you spend on it back in the days, but now the first Crossed Out cost like 140€...
@@halfkid379 7" were 3-4$us back then...
put this on when you're depressed and alone, POOF automatic partner in crime
definitely a pissed off and very miserable album lyrically
Damn right
once i strangled someone with that EP on. I'm not even joking. It was in paris 2007. Just check the web and you'll see something happened in some hotel near "place de l'opéra" that year.... ;) it wasn't my fault though
Push down and turn brother
@@thomasdupont7186 Jesus Christ, man.
Truly the best record of the 90s. A masterpiece! Lyrics that read like cries for help. Too good beyond words. Vicious bass and guitar attack. And those drums. Absolutely insane!!! Thank you Andy, Raul, Vince, & Brent...and happy 25th anniversary "Downsided".

@Simon Achebe From Nepal? Current? And thanks
@Simon Achebe where are you originally from?
This is real Hardcore Punk
I don’t think anyone in powerviolence will ever match the magic or the aggression of this album. It’s a complete fucking masterpiece.
never ever
I gotta give love to Crossed Out though. No Comment were too "all over the place hardcore". Crossed Out refined the genre in a tight, dark realm reminiscent of cheap xerox images and ol'fashion "press type" we had in HS before computers.
Best 7 min record ever.
Andy, this is what got me into PV. Thank you.
Powerviolenceog Inc. you are the man Andy hope all is well
Agreed, if not one of the best hardcore records EVER.

92b16vx a response many years later if you even get this. This was a heavy record to record but it turned out amazing period heavy as in the subject matter
Jesus Christ, I totally worshipped this ep. The band I was in, Short Hate Temper, tried to capture this brutal, concise record, but didn't come close. Downsided was and will continue to be one of the high water marks of that era for me. Cheers, Greg.
Hey man just wanted to let you know that in my opinion, SHT is criminally underrated and your split with Slight Slappers is one of my favorite releases of the 90s. Fantastic work
@@brianhale5276 Great to hear, man! Glad we were able to punish some ears for a few years.
Hey, I had your guys' split with Slight Slappers back in the day (still do, somewhere). Very likely bought it out of the Slap-a-Ham distro, actually. Can you tell us anything about how that record came together? Any cool memories to relate? I listened to that shit a bunch back in the day and would love to hear some stories.

@@BIadelores yes it is a very humbled Andrew. I always get a little embarrassed when I'm praised in any way. But it does bring a smile I'm glad I had a part in helping in any way! I will check back in if you have any other wonderful praise to bring me LOL I need it sometimes. Lost in the scene
@@powerviolenceog We are all lost in the scene, we're all just trying to figure out how to make the world make sense. I wish I could help you out the way you and your music have, but I guess my praise will just have to do for now. I won't make it weird by geeking out too much though LOL, stay safe out there!
I just have one question though, if you don't mind. I've heard a lotta rumors about this record and how it was made. One of the more crazy ones is that the lyrics for this were written after a failed suicide attempt or that Raul the drummer needed to take speed to play it. Are any of those true? I've no idea if they are but based on the result, I believe them!
@@BIadelores I shouldn't say anything but it would be a no to both? Maybe I was left in the dark No suicide attempt!!? And Raul and speed? Nothing I witnessed. I remember a lot of pot at practises, he definitely didn't need speed to play fast! Pure talent I do know* he dropped acid(shrooms) at a show in San Diego, Che Cafe and it was an amazing "Animal Muppet" sets I ever witnessed. He played so fast hard to keep up. Brent wrote everything while in isolation after health issues Confined within my bedroom cell. I hung out with Brent a lot. The other guys lived other places so....
* that's how I remember it but am I telling the truth? 😜

This sounds like top-shelf of the style to me. I've perused quite a few acts, and this is up there with Apt 213 (definitely better musicianship and vocals here, in my opinion). What a find - thanks for sharing.
this guys are one of the founders of the style. Godfather's of powerviolence who started back in 88. This. Record is definitely one of the classics of the genre. Fast as f*ck without sounding like metal , still rooted in punk/ HC.where many bands went down the grindcore, death metal..Chris Dodge who put this out says he wished they had material for a full 12 but it wasn't meant to be.
@@mirapilates I can only reply to you but thanks to both of you for the kind words from the lame vocalist of this band from many years ago

Tons of beautiful and meaningful lyrics, one of the most powerful and expressive old hxc records I've ever listened.. I mean, you got in similar lines Spazz, Siege, Napalm Death, Neanderthal and more, even some Agnostic Front got this crazy fast hardcore sound at beggining, may you call it a mixture of powerviolence / grind before that genre even existed? Dunno, but it's awesome anyways you look at it.
