I'm not defending Noem but lets get some facts straight. She was given the dog because it was to aggressive for it's owners, it wasn't hers from a puppy. A farmer will kill any threats to crops or livestock. A chicken killing farm dog as a rule has a short life. Confusing this animal with a suburban pet is misguided. This being said, Noem was foolish to think everyday Americans are familiar with the realities of farm life.

Well stated. The vast majority of Americans are frighteningly ignorant of farm operations & standards, when less than half a century ago most Americans were at least somewhat familiar with rural environments.
My father helped me hold the shotgun to kill a crow when my age was in single digits. Ditto for a farm cat with a severe case of mange (he shot the cat but I was there). Farms generally wouldn't expend wealth to treat non-essential animals.
I just read about Kristi’s bird dog killing and about the goat and it really made me sick. I am a country girl living in rural Illinois and have had several bird dogs. Hers just needed more training and needed to be secure when at the neighbor’s house. One thing you never do is allow a bird dog to run unsupervised. That was on her, not the dog. she sounds like she has anger issues.

I thought that Kristi Noem would have made a good VP UNTIL the story about the dog and how she tried to condone what she did. Even 20 years ago, which she said is when it happened, there were multiple avenues to go down to save that dog's life. Not just finding a competent trainer but finding a rescue that would take it and undo the hunting training and put it up for adoption as a house pet. There were rescues that took and rehabilitated Michael Vick's fighting dogs so her excuse of the dog killing chickens is b.s. to me. She killed the poor dog with a bullet instead of taking it to a vet and having it humanely euthanized if she thought he needed to be put down. People can say it's the same thing but I don't think a small needle prick and just falling asleep is the same as a bullet piercing it's skull. If she thinks Trump supporters are all cold blooded like that she's dead wrong. I think with all the backlash she's gotten over this Trump won't choose her. I'd be very disappointed in him if he did.

I agree the dog could have possibly been re-homed, but it was violent, aggressive, and resistant to training. It could have been a coyote or wolf hybrid, which is not unheard of. Putting it down in that manner is humane because it is instant. Having it done by a vet is not instant and the animal suffers because they know they are dying, plus it is placing the burden on someone who's chosen purpose is to save animals.
@@susancoukoulis4731 that is another great point. Our three dogs think they are going to die every time we take them to the vet. Having them follow you behind the barn like they every day and doing it quickly is the most humane way, but totally misunderstood by people who have never been to a farm.

I’m with these guys 100% except for one thing: I also had a bad experience with an unsocialized dog a few years ago, and learned that it’s not as easy as “train the dog like everyone else”. I eventually had to get a veterinarian and the local authorities to get the shelter to take him back. He was beyond simple training.
Lewandoski affair, killing dog, meeting Kim Jong-un, she Palin’ed herself. She had everything going for her and it would seem she couldn’t handle it. She had such broad appeal and she tossed it away. She had conservative men right where she wanted them, working on ranch seemed like a woman you could enjoy a beer with. Women seemed to like her, strong, handled her self well working in male dominated society yet maintained her femininity. Did seemingly a good job running SD. If you are going to put a woman out there with the hot mom looks and the great resume you better make sure she is squeaky clean because the other party is going to be afraid and relentless in taking her down. I am thankful she won’t be picked for VP. I live in SD, she is not who people thinks she is. I am a conservative and I did vote for her, regretfully. If you talk to any of our authentic conservative legislators, they are treated like enemies by Noem. She has made a few good decisions but a lot of it she takes credit for but she did not do and that goes for Covid too. What she did concerning the book and how she is handling it now just reveals what a lot of us in SD already have experienced and know.
She also abandoned the farmers in her state and caved to her donars.

I was born and raised in California in an Island called Alameda, not a real Island but a man made one hooked to Oakland by 3 bridges, one being a traffic and railroad bridge called Fruitvale bridge. Loved it being raised in the Bay Area and being able to go to San Francisco to the great parks, culture, Art, great food and sites and the fresh fish of Fisherman's Warf, pier 39. Great area to live and play in. I was born in 1939 and left the area in 1958, never to return. Did live in Oakland for a while then onto San Jose, for a few years, left there in 1968 an off to Hawaii where my Mom was born. I'm still here and I'm 84.

If Ms. Noem is traveling to meet foreign leaders, it's on the taxpayer dime and time. None of those conversations should be private. Her only reason for meeting any foreign leader is to represent the American people. Why should she keep those conversations private when they're on the public's behalf?

Really, she's a great governor. I think it's a shame to tear her down mistakes and all. I think the right needs to be more forgiving. Everyone makes mistakes. She obviously has a hard time admitting mistakes. Let's move on.

She was trying to show what a powerful woman she is by staring down a Korean dictator. A totally unnecessary lie because being a governor shows power.
A 14-month-old dog is not a puppy, it is an adult. Also, I know people who worked farms their whole lives and a couple of them have told me that you cannot have a dog that is aggressive to livestock and people on a farm. She said that she took the dog off the hands of a family who could not train it, she tried to train it and it attacked and killed a neighbor's chickens. I am confident that many farmers would handle this dog the same way. The Korea thing is foolish. And I don't think that much of Noem.

@@tonikeltz3751 She didn't brag either. She said it was a tough decision and that it somehow shows her ability to make tough decisions. The reaction of again, people whose only contact with farms is what winds up on their tables, is that she is some brutal animal abuser. Nothing indicates that she took pleasure in it and farmers I have known have told me it is a lousy and necessary thing to do.
@@chrisverby3047 Fair enough. Perhaps if she had taken more room to explain to the non farmers. I am a rural girl and most farmers just would not use that story to "impress". Hogs and coyote's, maybe, but not a dog. Kristy has some more mopping up to do on the book, apart from this story. It's not a good look unfortunately.
@@tonikeltz3751 I am responding to the dimwits out there who said that she is cruel to animals or some kind of sadist. They have no idea what they are talking about. People's reactions were simply to call her cruel and sadistic. They were not commenting on how she made the point in her book, or at least very few were. I actually don't even care about her book or any point she is making.
