Oh the joys of being British where the results of the American election don't completely devastate my life. And if it makes you feel any better at all, I am in the exact same boat. I know that I want to be a writer. I've wanted to be a writer since I was about 13 years old, and yet I have never finished a book. (Finished a few interactive fiction novels, but I've never finished an actual book.) I feel bad sometimes when I look back and think of all the time I wasted procrastinating and not doing anything productive, but unfortunately, I can't get those years back, I can only decide what to do in the future. Yes, if you write 1000 words in a day, you can have a finished draft in 3 months... But if you write 500 words a day, you can have a finished draft in 6 months... And if you write 250 words a day, you can have a finished draft in a year. However long it takes, if you keep going, you will eventually have a book. You should never beat yourself up for not making progress quickly enough, because if you're not making progress quickly enough, that means you're making progress. As for rewards, books make for a good reward, I think. Bags too. Bags are pretty. And chocolate! Chocolate is always good. 😊
You're so right. The time I'm spending worrying about how much time I'm wasting is just more time I'm wasting! Alas, the life of the chronically anxious! I like the idea of bags as a reward. I don't have nearly enough bags. Or maybe even just a trip to Bath and Body Works would suffice. You've given me a lot to ponder. Thanks!!
