@@3OBTPAIt's funny how people are watching the prequels now for the first time are understanding why George decided to show anakin as a young kid in this movie yet fans at the time this came out didn't and whined about it. You're supposed to question, how did this sweet child become darth vader?? What happened to him??? Most people that I have seen react to TPM feel this way. In the TPM audio commentary George said this was exactly how you should feel when watching this. Jake Lloyd wasn't the greatest actor in this movie but he did a pretty good job playing an innocent and sweet kid. I don't know what it is about his performance but it just works.❤❤❤
My general thoughts on Star Wars. Everything Lucas was directly involved in making is Canon (first 6 movies, Clone Wars TV show) and should be viewed (ok, the full CW show is a huge amount of content and likely beyond most reaction channels, but it adds so much depth to the story and that time period). Everything else isn’t canon and is basically professional fan fiction. There is a lot of great stuff in there and there’s a lot of junk (both from Disney and when Lucas was still at the helm). Heir to the Empire is fantastic but came out a decade before Lucas introduced clones to the canon. The clones in that trilogy are so different than anything in the prequels that can’t make it work in the same timeline. Some of the stuff back then, and now, are great. A lot, not so much. Lucas created the sandbox (and a lot of movie making tools) with these six films. Then, everyone was invited to play. Aside from the first six movies, enjoy what you like, and ignore what you don’t. Are there flaws in the Lucas films? Sure (let’s just say he should never pen a romance novel). But, Jake Lloyd was great in this film. Jar Jar was a misstep (but the actor that portrayed him is phenomenal). The prequel story arc is amazing and adds so much to the original trilogy. I don’t care for the sequels, but my main gripe is that they are labeled episode 7-9. The 6 core films had one cohesive story arc which doesn’t carry on into the sequels. If they had them listed as their own trilogy, I would have enjoyed them a lot more I think. Hope you enjoy the prequels. They have aged quite well over the years…
@orlandoarealuxuryrentals8453 That was addressed in the Clone Wars series. Yoda's arc in season 6 episodes 11-13 goes into detail. It's one of my favorite arcs in the series.
Natalie Portman played Queen Padme Amidala and Keira Knightley played her decoy. Both were quite young here, but Natalie, at this time, was more known as actress.
The "rat tail" of Obi Wan shows that he is a padawan learner, an apprentice, not a Jedi Knight yet. The final fight, sounding "Duel of the fates", it´s one of the best in the franchise for me. Legendary.
My dad took me to this when I was a kid, I knew it was genuinely good because he actually stayed awake in the theater and didn't mind seeing it again lol
My Godfather, my Mother and my Great Uncle also liked it, and they are from the original trilogy generation, I'm Gen Z so this was my first Star Wars movie.
In Attack of the Clones, Padme’s ship, Dexters Diner, the buildings on Kamino, the Clone observation tower, the arena on Geonosis, etc were all models. In Revenge of the Sith, the sinkhole on Utapau, the Kashyyyk trees, the lava flows on Mustafar, were all models, and most of the lava you see shooting up into the air is actually footage of a real volcano erupting that the crew was able to fly out to and film. It’s crazy to me that so many people complain about the “over abundance” of CGI in the prequels when they ignore all the truly great looking model work. The shots they’re in look so great and real that you don’t even notice them, they just blend right in. And tbh I only have an issue with a handful of the cgi shots.
@@Squabk1ng22 It's also because the technique was lost a long time ago. Qui Gon didn't finish his training because he was trying to revive a technique that hadn't been used in centuries. The fact that he was able to accomplish as much as he did on his own was impressive enough and sign of how much closer to the force he was the every other jedi of the era.
With how long the Jedi had existed, they wouldn't have only learned that ability in the thirty years in between the Phantom Menace and a New Hope, in a time when the Jedi mostly didn't exist. Qui Gon didn't vanish because he simply wasn't as connected to the force as Obi Wan and Yoda were at the end of their lives. They died as old men while Qui Gon was younger.
Poe favor, Please do NOT listen to the haters. "Fans" are extremely critical based on their taste and a lot of nostalgia. These movies didn't make billions because people didn't like them. They do. Keep watching. Buena suerte!
I’m totally invested in your journey through these movies. I loved your reactions to the OT. And I ADORE that you instantly loved Jar Jar, because that was supposed to be the general reaction to the character, but I honestly believe that the people who didn’t like him bullied the rest of the world into thinking that nobody liked him…. I can’t wait to see your next SW viddy 😎👍❤️
I just watched the movies for the first time a couple months ago and that was my reaction too. My BF told me about how the fans felt and since I got to enjoy him before knowing that I still got to enjoy him.
The start of each movie has that startling effect because it starts immediately. Industry rules require the production studio to get credit, among many others before a title can be shown. When Star Wars went for this powerful impact, they had to pay a large fine/penalty. It's a dumb rule, even if the people who made the movie possible deserve credit. The wild success of Star Wars should have taught them that getting the title out there up front and allowing credits only at the end can actually make for a better movie, where we aren't distracted by names and company names popping up in the movie and messing up our experience. As for Liam, he has a particular set of skills that makes him very formidable.
@@mckrackin5324 The actor at the time Jake Lloyd was 10 at the time maybe that's why. I don't know why but my, at the time, 8 year old self was aware of this fact so it was probably pretty common knowledge or something. I didn't/don't pay attention to that sort of thing so not sure why I knew that.

26:20 For 9 year old kid, Jake Lloyd isn't a terrible child actor but when he says "Will I ever see you again?" it hits the heart strings so much, it put a lump in my throat when I first saw it.
Great reaction! Thanks for continuing your Star Wars Journey! I've never seen someone figure it out so fast that Padme is actually the queen. They usually just think they were confused that she seemed like the queen and settle on her being the handmaiden. I've also never seen someone love Jar-Jar so much, but that's another thing!
So the way they did C3PO in this movie is really cool to me. He's basically a life size puppet with a guy wearing an all blue bodysuit behind him controlling his movements that they could edit out later.
I’m really surprised you were able to tell that wasn’t the Queen at 11:20 I believe your the 1st reactor that actually noticed that they switched places
Hey Cristy!! I really liked this movie, it was so cool seeing the Jedi in their prime, so many cool lightsaber battles, especially the end one. Darth Maul was so badass! It was so awesome seeing your reaction! Oh and kudos to you picking up on the queen switch so quickly! 👏More impressive was your Mario Cart impression!! 🤣🤣💖💖
Just got home from watching the re-release in the theatre a couple of hours ago, what a great surprise to find in the feed. Glad you enjoyed it. I found it a bit more fun this time 'round.
Yes, the Hutts would enforce bets. They get the money from people coming in to place bets and such. If they allowed the locals to get away with welching on bets, people would stop coming, and the money would dry up. “Enlightened self-interest.”
34:50 the shield was meant to keep the tanks out and prevent their fire from hitting the gungans who couldnt match them, the droid infantry would be much easier targets going through the sheild itself
Watching this movie about little Anakin, a nine year old little blond boy going on a great adventure throughout the galaxy, as myself a nine year old blond boy was what opened up my love for both movies and acting. This movie was incredibly formative for me.
The actor who portrayed C-3PO, Anthony Daniels, wore a green suit for the naked C-3PO full body scenes and worked the Droid from behind. Puppeteers worked the partial body scene. In all the other movies' covered C-3PO scenes, he wore the full 3PO suit.
Great reaction Cristy.... My girlfriend and I watched all 6 (episodes 1-6, the original trilogy & prequel trilogy) on Star Wars day May 4th (into the 5th) on 4KHD (that I have in my home movie collection). We had a ball with all of them...I hope you continue with your SW journey & keep on enjoying the movies. :-)
George Lucas actually created his own special effects company just for Star Wars, which brought in special effects people from all around the world…. Like the best of the best…… and they stayed with him throughout all six of the movies…. And then what are you doing with them when the movies are all done then what do you do? Where do they go?….. those are people that made Pixar….. that’s why when Pixar put out toy story and finding Nemo that’s why they were awesome at the very beginning….. why because they were all the people that have been doing special effects and a very high level for a very long time….. electric light and magic…. That’s the name of the company that George Lucas had to do his special effects for Star Wars … they became Pixar👍😎
Yeah, people are always going to tell you how you shouldn’t bother with this movie or that movie in the series. Nobody hates Star Wars as much as certain Star Wars fans, and they NEED everyone else to agree with them. It’s weird. Just watch them, have fun with the ones you enjoy and move on from the ones you don’t, like a rational person.
Although I did not appreciate the prequels the first few times watching them ( yeah I had to really watch them to accept them) I would NEVER tell someone to not watch something I did not like. Everyone is different and art touches different people differently.
Hidden gem, which you may have missed in your first watch of this film: If you watch the film all the way to the end of the closing credits, you can hear Darth Vader breathing. A foreshadowing of future events, that occurs outside the 'main body' of the film. :)
I'm not a fan of the Jar Jar at all. But my mom loved Jar Jar when she saw this movie. I like things that make my Mom happy even if it's not my cup of tea. Different opinions are fine.
Unfinished C-3PO wasn't done as neither a man in a suit or a CGI model (because it was too complicated at the time with the moving parts) so he was done as a body-puppetry similair to Bunraku, japanese puppetry, where the 3PO puppet was attached to a puppeteer through rods. The puppeteer (which wasn't Anthony Daniels as the puppet was too heavy) was then painted out in post-production.
The original trilogy is the best, but I have always liked the prequels, too. And, despite hating the sequel trilogy, I would recommend everyone watch them once.
A reasonable Star Wars fan in 2024. Wonders never cease. I always thought it was weird when people would say skip the prequels because they didn't like them. You still need to see them to understand everything.
@@enigmamz That was the first time in my entire life I ever sat in a theater while a Star Wars movie was playing and thought "man this really isn't good"
34:30 - and the fun part is that a droid army won't stop until it is ordered to by its central computer. It won't panic, it won't be afraid, it won't get nervous, a droid army is simply efficient at killing. Even then, look how many Gungans were taken prisoner at 38:26 and 40:04. The droid army wasn't going for genocide, just victory. 34:51 - the shields protected the Gungan army from the tank fire. Imagine what would have happened to the Gungan army if those tanks had been able to fire freely into their ranks. 39:53 - and this is why you don't make your droid army depend on a single external control signal. Then again the Trade Federation is composed of businessmen rather than combat professionals. 40:42 - "he will bring balance to the Force". If there are several thousand Jedi and there are only two Sith, then to balance the Force you'd need to bring the Jedi down to only two, right?
20:25 Anakin is 9 and Padme is 14, and surprisingly Natalie Portman was 16 when she played this role! The boy who plays Anakin was 10 when this movie came out
Great call on the Queen's decoy. It's great to see you approaching these movies with an open mind and enjoying them for what they are. Hope you keep going through the others, no matter what some people say.
(Still in intro)- cute drawing of you! Release order and you will be ok. Things happen in order of being created, then inserted appropriately for audience/ us. If you go in actual timeline chronologically then it won't be entertaining or interesting, like if you look at the solution to a puzzle or magic trick first, the magic is gone. (Also Nothing can prepare you for the holiday special, if you can watch it without a break you are amazing) On to reaction!
The Gungan forcefields are to deflect from orbital bombardment but they can be walked through. Which is why in Empire Vader is angry at the Imperial for coming too close to planet. The Rebels were able to activate their shields and the Empire then had to make a ground assault. 🤓
Two of my favorite Qui-Gon Jinn lines in this movie are: "The ability to speak does not make you intelligent" (So useable for so many people in real life) "There's always a bigger fish."
To learn everything about anakin. Skywalker, and how good of a person he was. You must watch the animated. Star Wars Clone wars series. It is 7 seasons long. So I would recommend to watch the most important episodes and by learning. That is by simply asking us which ones to watch.
We missed you, Cristy! So glad you gave Star Wars a chance and I am glad you love it as much as I do!😊 Also, you will LOVE The Mandalorian if you haven't already seen it!
It’s fun to see how a new viewer can enjoy these prequels when coming to it all at once. At the time, I had grown up on Star Wars and this didn’t hit the mark after a 16-year wait. I just can’t get into the prequels myself but I enjoy Cristy’s reaction nevertheless!
Up until the sequel movies came out, I thought the prequels were largely an embarrassment to the franchise. AFTER 7, 8 and 9 came out, I only looked back at the prequels as sparkling diamonds in comparison. Everything I hated about the prequels largely paled, and I only saw the good things about them once Disney showed how badly the movies could ACTUALLY be screwed up. Actually, it wasn't so much episode seven as eight and nine. Eight and nine were just so bad for so many completely different reasons.
The unique reason why Qui-Gon didn't sense danger from Anakin because he was planning on training him. And there was no warning from the Force to him because Anakin's future would've been different. The song playing during the fight with Maul is called "Duel of the Fates"
Yes, the emperor is the same actor. He was actually a bit young in Return of the Jedi, but heavy makeup made him look old. The actor actually aged into the part well for the prequels
@Christy The animated Clone Wars takes years to show stories between 2 and 3 so there is that, the live 6 episode Obiwon is also well done and emotional as is the live action Mandalorian. It will be fun to see you watch the next two of the prequels. Please know these were REALLY hated until 7 8 and 9 came out. Glad you liked most of it :)
Thanks for ignoring the mindless haters by deciding to give the prequels a chance so that you can make up your own mind about the prequels. I always love the prequels no matter what and The Phantom Menace is my most favourite prequel film.
When i was 7 years old the phantom menace came out in theaters and started my love of star wars, even though I had seen the original trilogy many times thanks to my mom haha, the 3 prequels hold the most special place in my heart.
Glad you enjoyed this. Some of the biggest Star Wars critics are the biggest Star Wars fans, it’s just the way the franchise has always been. Ignore the trolls and form your own opinion. I personally have always loved the prequels for the same reasons I love the original trilogy. The Phantom Menace is a great setup and introduction to the Skywalker Saga, and I have a feeling you will enjoy Episode’s II and III even more. The story just gets even deeper and more engaging. All of your questions will be answered 😊
I think the Queen Padme Amidala was 14 in this one (youngest queen ever elected on Naboo) and Natalie Portman was 18 or 19 when it released i think. Anakin is supposed to be 9 or 10. Kiera Knightley who plays the Queens decoy was 14 on release. Dont quote me on the numbers but i think that is correct, and i say on release because it took a couple of years to make it so they would have been a bit younger on camera.
Padmé is 14 years old in this movie, the same age as Natalie Portman was at the time. Also, he handmaiden Sabe is played by a young Kiera Knightly (you know, Elizabeth Swan from Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and from Bend it like Beckham).
In the lore of legends, it's explained that there was a sith (I can't name him for spoiler reasons) That wanted to create a being of pure evil, from only the force. His apprentice (also can't name) broke his ritual, and in an ironic twist of fate, made Anakin a being of pure good.
I think the sequels aren't as good (episode 7,8 and 9), but like you said, make up your own mind. I did like episode 7 The Force Awakens though. The making of the original trilogy called Empire of Dreams is something to check out. It shows how the original films were made and ALL Lucas had to go through to make the films. It may sound boring, but trust me it's AWESOME. Great reaction!
1. Of the prequels I like this one the best, mostly for the POD race and the underwater sequences, 2. Jar Jar is mostly comic relief since we don't have C3PO 3. Liam Neeson was very busy with various productions at the time and was in huge demand and agreed to do this episode because Qui-Gon Jinn dies, and he won't be held to do more. 4. Divine conception? 5. It's easy to know why this one didn't start the series because of the lack of CGI back in 1977.
Actually, I have seen a lot of reactors over the past few years respond positively to Jar-Jar, as well as the prequel movies overall. That's why I find it annoying when people project their own opinions and tell reactors that x, y, and z movies aren't very good. Let them make that determination, free from any outside influence.
i loved him as a kid watching it for the first time because that's what he was for. I didn't mind him much later. and when you read about the darth jar jar theory and place it in your headcanon he becomes a fascinating character
That lil drawing story at the begining was top tier hahaha 10/10 Ps. Btw if you have Steam or a Switch, you can buy Episode 1: Star Wars Racer for like 2 bucks, its a racing game like Mario Kart, but with Star Wars and these pods, very fun even by today's standards
And yesterday was May the 4th, good timing. Repeated watchings will probably change some of your opinions, as all the plot holes and really innane bits (like midi-chlorians) are no longer a surprise, but there are some definite good parts to the prequels. Also, actor who played Darth Maul is the same who played Toad in the Xmen movies.
3PO is a full sized puppet with the puppeteer CGed out from behind it. I don’t know what the type of puppet is called but it was connected by rods to the operator at key spots and would mimic his performance. Why Anthony Daniels (3PO’s voice and suit actor) wasn’t operating it I don’t know. It’s noticeable that he doesn’t move the same. It’s usually explained away by saying that since he just came online he’s still learning to control himself.
I'm glad you love Anakin. It makes the prequels a lot more fun. I hope you knock these out fast because I have a feeling Episode 3 will tie with your love of Episode 6. Maybe even surpass it.
The Queen (Natalie Portman)’s body double is played by Keira Knightley. In this movie Natalie is 18 and Keira is 14, the funny story is that the costume department did such a good job of making them look alike that their own parents couldn’t tell which one was Keira and which one was Natalie.
Hey, Cristy! This movie is a mixed bag but you appreciated its finer qualities and made some astute observations! You knew who Obi-Wan was right from the start! Congrats! A lot of reactors miss the name-drop and don't realize who Ewan McGregor is until halfway through the movie! You were aware of the decoy swapping but didn't recognize 14-year-old Keira Knightley playing the decoy Sabe! The decoy tactic was a security measure against the Trade Federation; Portman was herself when performing her duties and while on Tatooine but concealed herself whenever she was in transit and exposed. The Emperor's name was never mentioned in the Classic Trilogy and only viewers who had explored the Expanded Universe of comics, novels, video games and action figures knew his surname. This is the time of the Republic and the future Emperor is operating in the shadows as a hooded mystery man. Lucas provided multiple visual and vocal cues as to his public identity to clue in audiences before the BIG REVEAL! The prequel films are overly reliant on CGI which forced the cast to work with green screen backgrounds resulting in somewhat stiff performances from otherwise highly accomplished actors like Liam Neeson, Sam Jackson and Natalie Portman. Lucas also wrote the clunky screenplay and has admitted he is far from a deft wordsmith. However, Lucas had complete control of these films and there is an internal consistency and scale of ambition that the more recent Sequel trilogy lacks. Many who grew up with the Prequel trilogy love it as much, if not more, than the Classic trilogy. Judge for yourself. Any species can become Jedi or Sith if their midichlorian count is above a certain threshold and they are trained as evidenced by the VARIETY OF SPECIES on the Jedi Council. Without training, one is just Force-sensitive. Below the threshold, one is a low-level Force-sensitive like having an especially keen sixth sense. Below that, you're a muggle. Lol. Light saber colors denote various attributes. BLUE denotes martial skill and are classified as GUARDIANS. GREEN denotes wisdom and are classified as CONSULARS. YELLOW denotes justice and are classified as SENTINELS. ORANGE denotes pacifism and are classified as NEGOTIATORS. PURPLE denotes a willingness to access the Dark Side but temper it with Light striking a delicate but potent balance and are classified as ARBITERS. RED denotes corruption since the kyber crystal is cracked and are classified as DARKSIDERS, INQUISITORS or SITH. WHITE denotes a deep Force connection that is ideologically neutral wielded by AHSOKA TANO post-Clone Wars. BLACK is unique to the DARKSABER crafted millennia ago by the sole Mandalorian Jedi in history, TARRE VIZSLA. Jar Jar Binks is probably the most absurd character in all of Star Wars. He is almost universally reviled. Fortunately, you don't see much of him beyond this movie. The poor actor who played him, Ahmed Best, suffered such a professional and personal backlash for his portrayal, he became suicidally depressed requiring an intervention by Lucas himself. He has since made peace with his Star Wars past, thankfully. Jeez, what was George thinking? Poor Jake Lloyd would have appreciated your appraisal of his performance. He, too, was ridiculed for his portrayal of young Anakin and so badly bullied in school that he dropped out. He turned to drugs and has been in and out of trouble with the law his whole life! You wouldn't know it from the film but Anakin RESTORED a discarded C-3PO. He didn't actually create him. The protocol droid is already a century old by the time Anakin begins tinkering with him. The two droids are meant to be the witnesses of the saga and appear in eleven of the twelve films. Lucas got the idea of servant witnesses from the Kurosawa samurai classic, "The Hidden Fortress". Anakin is the product of a virgin birth like the Christian Jesus. Shmi tells Qui-Gon she became pregnant without a lover. In truth, the Force itself -- the universe as it were -- created her son. Who knows? Lucas decided to get metaphysical. It's kinda like Nature restoring balance. It's also kinda weird. "Clone Wars" explains more. The Sith are Dark Side Force-users who are the ancient enemy of the Jedi. The Emperor and Vader were Sith. There were once legions of Sith but then a fellow named Darth Bane instituted the Rule of Two 1,000 years in the past. Since then, it's been a Master and an Apprentice jockeying for power and supplanting one another. Midichlorians are based on real-world mitochondria that exist symbiotically in all our cells with their own DNA. As you might remember from high school bio, they produce the energy that powers our cells. In Star Wars, they are microscopic organisms that exist symbiotically within all living beings. The greater the number, the more one's ability to tap into the Force. Lucas was just establishing a biological basis for his space magic. Some people hate the idea. I think it's cool. Jedi are trained as early as possible and removed from their families so they develop no attachments other than to the Jedi Order like the Ottoman Janissary Corps. Anakin already has emotional attachments which will cause him all kinds of trouble. The Jedi practice this to temper emotional outbursts and prevent any compromise to the psychically powerful adepts who constitute the Order. An uncontrolled rogue Jedi is like an ambulatory nuke! You probably wondered about the efficacy of the Gungan shields since the droid troops marched so easily through them! Shields have different properties in Star Wars. The Gungan shields are likely impervious to fast-moving objects or objects with a high energy yield such as cannon blasts but are completely permeable to slow-moving objects or objects with a low energy yield. Maul is the coolest villain. His species is called Zabrak. Their homeworld is Iridonia although Maul was raised on Dathomir, home of the Nightsister witches. The red and black coloration are facial tattoos. Everyone's jaw dropped when they saw that double-sided lightsaber in the trailer! The animated "Clone Wars" honors this worthy antagonist and reveals much more about Maul!
Good job spotting the queen/decoy. When it came out, i don't think any kid spotted that. I seem to recall a lot of parents caught it, but to most kids it felt like a shock revelation 🤣
The end of the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Darth Maul shows the difference between Sith and Jedi very well. When the laser partitions separated Qui Gon and Maul from each other, the Jedi began to meditate, calming down, and the Sith, on the contrary, walked in a rage like a tiger in a cage, filling himself with emotions. And when Obi Wan attacked Maul after the death of his master, you can see that he was filled with rage, which took him out of balance, since this is not the way of the Jedi and he does not know how to handle it, and Darth Maul, being a Sith who has been raised inside the order since childhood, who on the contrary feeds himself with emotions, easily he was defeated and thrown into the mine, and only when Obi Wan was able to calm down and return to balance, he was able to defeat Maul мне
The Originals are Important to Me because memories of going to watch them with sister, who passed away young from lung cancer and I Loved Very Much, are Very Special to Me. She took Me to the Drive-in to watch IV when it came out and then to the theater for V and VI.. Very Cool.
Hello Christy! I just wanted to say I'm really enjoying you reactions! i come to channels like yours when I feel like revisiting a movie I love. I really appreciate how authentic it feels when you watch and not over doing it for the camera. You know what we want! :3
Fans have been throwing so many dumb theories like Jar Jar or Qui-Gon being sith agents. Anything really that could help elevate this movie above the absolute trash that it is.
Naboo is mostly Lake Como, Italy with interiors shooting Shepperton studios in England both with some Cgi added to make it more alien. Tatooine is once again shot on Tunisia.
Cristy, Qui Gon didn't absolve into the force, become a force ghost, because it is something that is not happening yet. What happens to Obi Wan and Yoda is about 30+ years later and how it happens it something explained in the animated series The Clone Wars, which occurs about 10+ years from now. The politics of SW has always been one of George's big parts of creating SW to reflect the political problems of our real world but don't worry about understanding it now as it will make more sense as you continue your journey.
My best friend and I spent the summer watching this in the theater in 1999. I just got home from seeing it with her once again, and with my daughter as well. 💖
One thing that always blows my mind is the sensor used to record this movie was the same size as the cheap point and shoot cameras today for less than $100 these days. Obviously the lenses were better but knowing that the cheaper cameras we have today have better sensors in them is crazy.
I also found out recently that over the weekend episode 1 made enough money that it jumped its way to within the top 50 highest grossing movies of all time. Ever.
The Phantom Menace definitely one of the better Star Wars movies in alot of ways, although I understand some people may see it in a different light. But I still believe that it's one of the better ones ever made in the entire franchise. But that's just my take on it.
If someone says that the prequels are worse than the original trilogy, they don't know what they are talking about. The prequels greatly enrich the lore of Star Wars and explain the backstory behind the characters in the original trilogy. If anything, they add to the original trilogy in such a deep way.
Most of the naysayers are ones that have been around since the start, like myself, looking at the original trilogy though rose-colored glasses, and a bit of nostalgia. Christy. as a new viewer, you would enjoy the prequel trilogy as much as the first three.
38:14 says you can't kill a Jedi Qui Gon earlier in the film " I wish that was so" When I saw this the first time I wondered how Qui Gon would fit in the story just wasn't expecting that
I went to see The Phantom Menace yesterday in the cinema, dfferent experience, I've watched it thousands of times, but the sound design, the music, the space battles, the fights, Duel of the Fates with Darth Maul, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, Pod-Racing feel like Formula 1 (fun fact: it was inspired by the Chariot Race in Ben-Hur, amazing film from the 50s and set during the time of Jesus). The presenter of the show was a 56 year old fan who told us about how prequels are being revalued (especially after episodes 7, 8 and 9), and the socio-political conflicts and it's analogies with real life. Some people in that theatre had never seen it, or saw it years ago, there were a lot of fans from all ages, myself included.
Not everyone disappears into the force when they die,,that's a special ability But everyone and everything that lives and dies becomes one with the force when they die
I don't know if it's playing anywhere near you but this movie is currently back in theaters for it's anniversary. Only one week. Hope you can catch a show.

They have aged quite well over the years…
40:50 The whole "Jedi disappearing into the force" thing has not yet been discovered. The Jedi have not yet discovered that ability.
@orlandoarealuxuryrentals8453 That was addressed in the Clone Wars series. Yoda's arc in season 6 episodes 11-13 goes into detail. It's one of my favorite arcs in the series.
Fun Little Fact the actor who plays Obi-Wan in the prequel movies is the nephew of the actor who played Wedge in the Original Trilogy
and that Obi-Wan actor is married to actress who plays another Star Wars character: Hera Syndulla in Ahsoka. It's a real Star Wars family.

R2-D2 is the main character of StarWars
Natalie Portman played Queen Padme Amidala and Keira Knightley played her decoy. Both were quite young here, but Natalie, at this time, was more known as actress.
The "rat tail" of Obi Wan shows that he is a padawan learner, an apprentice, not a Jedi Knight yet. The final fight, sounding "Duel of the fates", it´s one of the best in the franchise for me. Legendary.
I can just see Cristy telling a policeman, "I wasn't speeding. I hit a star."
True.
11:14 The decoy queen was played by a 12 year old Keira Knightley
More like 14
@@di3486 She turned 14 2 months before the film release and it was filmed mostly in mid 1997 and some shots in 1998
My dad took me to this when I was a kid, I knew it was genuinely good because he actually stayed awake in the theater and didn't mind seeing it again lol
16 years between Ep. 6 and Ep. 1 releases, everyone couldn't wait any longer!
My Godfather, my Mother and my Great Uncle also liked it, and they are from the original trilogy generation, I'm Gen Z so this was my first Star Wars movie.
I was in my 20s and I also loved it.
There are actually more practical effects (Models and Paintings) in The Phantom Menace alone, than in the entire Original Trilogy.
That's why it looks so great, I always loved the vibe of it, reminded me of the original trilogy, maybe cause it was made in late 90s.
Yes but the next two start the movie trend of almost everything on screen being CGI.
Qui-Gon didn't disappear because the Jedi didn't know how to do that yet.
No it’s because qui gon didn’t finish his training.
Not exactly Jedi had lived for thousands of years and Quigon was not the first one to learn it. He was the first of his era though.
@@Squabk1ng22but wasn't qui gon the one to learn that as well as teach it to obi wan and yoda?

Agreed. I just watched all the movies for the first time and I loved the first 6. I'll zip my lip about the rest LOL (Still love BB8).
Hiiii @aim1me! Thanks for watching along. Misa think Jar Jar was awesome!!
Mmm, yes, he had sword skills from Rob Roy that caused a tad of confusion during saber training.
In this movie Anakin is nine years old and Padme is fourteen.
I thought I remembered him being 10 but either way, they're pretty similar ages, Padme and Anakin. My own parents are 5 years apart.

@poesenpai6475 actually most of this movie was shot June to fall 1997. Jake was born in 1989.
Correct. And it takes place 32 years before the first Star Wars. So "Vader" was 41 in A New Hope.
26:20 For 9 year old kid, Jake Lloyd isn't a terrible child actor but when he says "Will I ever see you again?" it hits the heart strings so much, it put a lump in my throat when I first saw it.
Me too.
So true. It’s because you see this scared little boy who wants nothing more than to stay with his mom, he doesn’t want to lose her.
He was an excellent child actor.
And the guy behind the puppet was actually Anthony Daniels, on his insistence.
Agreed. I let people convince me not to like the prequels but I actually love them. I regret saying for years that I didn’t like them but I love them
Although I did not appreciate the prequels the first few times watching them ( yeah I had to really watch them to accept them) I would NEVER tell someone to not watch something I did not like. Everyone is different and art touches different people differently.
I'm not a "fan" per se, but I did think this was a bad movie. Until I saw Rise of Skywalker.

Hidden gem, which you may have missed in your first watch of this film:
If you watch the film all the way to the end of the closing credits, you can hear Darth Vader breathing. A foreshadowing of future events, that occurs outside the 'main body' of the film. :)
Force Ghost explanation is in The Clone Wars animated series. Season 6 finale to be exact.

The decoy of Queen Amidala is the actress Keira Knightley she later becomes famous for her role in Pirates of The Carabbean
36:28 - Guardsman on the right. near centre of screen is played by Ray Park on a day he wasn't in Darth Maul make-up.
The original trilogy is the best, but I have always liked the prequels, too. And, despite hating the sequel trilogy, I would recommend everyone watch them once.
Agreed. I don't even want to have to endure IX again, even with reactors like Christy, but they should see them.

Two of my favorite Qui-Gon Jinn lines in this movie are:
"The ability to speak does not make you intelligent" (So useable for so many people in real life)
"There's always a bigger fish."
I remember seeing this when it first came out in theaters, Yoda was actually a puppet, he became cgi later down the line
Yeah, I was 21 when this came out. The best I could say afterwards was...Liam Neeson was good
Up until the sequel movies came out, I thought the prequels were largely an embarrassment to the franchise.
The decoy was Kiera Knightly, which I love, a future Oscar nominated actress in one of her first roles playing a decoy
I love all of them to, just the graphics kind of sucks but still all star wars are awesome 👌. Haters will be haters

1. Of the prequels I like this one the best, mostly for the POD race and the underwater sequences,
2. Jar Jar is mostly comic relief since we don't have C3PO
So.
We've found the one person in history that loves Jar-Jar Binks.
who's gonna tell her😂
She's not the only one who doesn't hate Jar Jar, a lot of people like him as a character. There's no reason to hate him anyway.
Actually, I have seen a lot of reactors over the past few years respond positively to Jar-Jar, as well as the prequel movies overall. That's why I find it annoying when people project their own opinions and tell reactors that x, y, and z movies aren't very good. Let them make that determination, free from any outside influence.
Helloooo, boyos!
i loved him as a kid watching it for the first time because that's what he was for. I didn't mind him much later. and when you read about the darth jar jar theory and place it in your headcanon he becomes a fascinating character
That lil drawing story at the begining was top tier hahaha 10/10
Ps.
Also, actor who played Darth Maul is the same who played Toad in the Xmen movies.
at the start of the video its "I love jarjar" at the end of the video its "hes useless and clumsy"
One thing doesn’t negate the other 😉
3PO is a full sized puppet with the puppeteer CGed out from behind it.
Everyone loves different Star Wars movies the most, and that is OK. :) As you noticed, Qui Gon did not disappear on death.
Neither did Anakin, but Luke still sees his force ghost.
7:04 the exact moment Cristy Reacts jumps the shark.😉
Quigon was the first jedi that learned to retain his consciousness after death, thats why his body didn't disappear
The Originals are Important to Me because memories of going to watch them with sister, who passed away young from lung cancer and I Loved Very Much, are Very Special to Me. She took Me to the Drive-in to watch IV when it came out and then to the theater for V and VI.. Very Cool.
I'm glad you don't listen to the haters...I think all the movies are awesome. Great reaction again. ❤
Hello Christy! I just wanted to say I'm really enjoying you reactions! i come to channels like yours when I feel like revisiting a movie I love. I really appreciate how authentic it feels when you watch and not over doing it for the camera. You know what we want! :3
Saw that in theatres last night. Jar Jar being a sith was something I didn't take seriously.....
Until I rewatched the movie
Is this a spoiler? @every-ist
@@CristyReacts Nothings concrete but I’ve been swayed
@@CristyReacts No. It is a dumb fan theory.
Fans have been throwing so many dumb theories like Jar Jar or Qui-Gon being sith agents. Anything really that could help elevate this movie above the absolute trash that it is.
@@CristyReacts NO it's just a fan theory.
Jake Lloyd was my hero when I was a little kid. I always remember him when people talk about this movie. Hope he finds peace
Ever.
Love this 😄I love Episode I. You reacted to all the parts I thought you would. It's up there as a fave. Peace!
The Phantom Menace definitely one of the better Star Wars movies in alot of ways, although I understand some people may see it in a different light. But I still believe that it's one of the better ones ever made in the entire franchise. But that's just my take on it.
Oh, man. I remember the pod racing level in Lego Star Wars... It REALLY captures the thrilling intensity of the movie sequence.
Your excitement is so cool. I think you will enjoy the next two even though they are CGI heavy but good story line.
If someone says that the prequels are worse than the original trilogy, they don't know what they are talking about. The prequels greatly enrich the lore of Star Wars and explain the backstory behind the characters in the original trilogy. If anything, they add to the original trilogy in such a deep way.
In your opinion
The Queen decoy character was played by Kiera Knightley from Pirates of the Caribbean fame.
Most of the naysayers are ones that have been around since the start, like myself, looking at the original trilogy though rose-colored glasses, and a bit of nostalgia. Christy. as a new viewer, you would enjoy the prequel trilogy as much as the first three.
Those naysayers need to take those glasses off
38:14 says you can't kill a Jedi
Qui Gon earlier in the film " I wish that was so"
When I saw this the first time I wondered how Qui Gon would fit in the story just wasn't expecting that
I went to see The Phantom Menace yesterday in the cinema, dfferent experience, I've watched it thousands of times, but the sound design, the music, the space battles, the fights, Duel of the Fates with Darth Maul, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, Pod-Racing feel like Formula 1 (fun fact: it was inspired by the Chariot Race in Ben-Hur, amazing film from the 50s and set during the time of Jesus).
Cristy this reaction was worthy of a güepajé😂
Jajajajjaja wepaaaaaaa
Not everyone disappears into the force when they die,,that's a special ability
But everyone and everything that lives and dies becomes one with the force when they die
Fuck the naysayers! Enjoy it all. No need to rush. Star Wars is going to outlive us all.
I don't know if it's playing anywhere near you but this movie is currently back in theaters for it's anniversary. Only one week. Hope you can catch a show.
