It’s hard to believe these 4 genuses were only together about 2 months when they recorded this album. Their first practice was on August 19, 1968, the day before Plants 20th birthday. They toured as the New Yardbirds, because Page being the remaining member of the Yardbirds had concert obligations. He brought together, Plant Jones & Bonham, to finish out that contract & also create a new band. They came back from the short tour, & recorded this album in October, Page funded the whole thing. They rented the studio after hours to save money, about 36 hours over a few days, this album was recorded & Page produced mixed & edited it. It was released on January 12, 1969. Their 2nd album was recorded in different cities while touring, & was released in October of 1969. Jim Page produced mixed & edited all their albums, he is a genus of many talents, & founded the greatest band to ever exist. It’s amazing how great this debut album is, with only being together such a short time beforehand. Thank you for your reaction.

@@Ryugine I’m not a Sir, but yes they are, they didn’t have all the gadgets that are around today. It’s the genus of Page & who he worked with in the sound booth, Page & the band had complete control over their music, which was unheard of. It was added into their contract with Atlantic Records, they were signed without executives seeing them preform live. They also got the largest signing bonus at that time. Their manager Peter Grant, also made sure they got the larger share of concert ticket sales. Until then, bands were only getting 10%, grant told venues the band gets 90% or we walk. He told them 10% of sold out concerts is better then nothing, & Led Zeppelin always sold out their concerts.

@@Ryugine it’s amazing how great they sounded in their live concerts too, they must have had the best equipment. I saw many concerts, none ever sounded as great as these guys.

The percussive effect that you mentioned with the guitar, is a combination of strumming the strings more percussively, and also hitting the body of the guitar as you strum. 🤙

The "slide guitar" in this song is a "pedal steel guitar". It has been used a great deal in Country/Western music. 😎
