    Such a great tutorial. Thank you! I've made coil baskets before & have done wrapping, too. I wrap a few inches at a time & anchor the fabric at the end with a wonder clip - that works pretty well. I think the next one or two projects, though, will be upright baskets. I am exploring the possibility of applique on the outside to dress it up a bit. Perhaps applique with an embroidered design on it - it would be a simple thing to hand stitch an applique to a finished basket. Another future project for me will be with using indigo-dyed fabric wrap and silk thread.
    My first couple of attempts were with a 1/4" thick clothesline. I ended up with a small open bowl and a coaster - just with the white rope and multicolored thread. Lovely! When I'm prepping for coil sewing I wind several bobbins - you go through a tremendous amount of thread!
    Fun stuff!

      Great tips, Mary! Each trivet took two bobbins apiece which surprised me. I love your applique idea, that'll be pretty as will the indigo fabric. You have some great plans ahead! Happy Quilting,
      Lea Louise

    Thanks for this great tutorial. I've watched many different variations of rope sewing in the past but not like the one you showed here with the very thin strips. I've seen objects made without rope, plaiting 3 pieces of fabric scraps then sewing as if rope. When I didn't need cheap washing-line rope I would see it for sale in many shops. Later after watching video's I've found it hard to find it! One person used cheap plastic washing line with many threads that made it easy to sew but I could only find thick hard plastic! I've now got a small cheap plastic line and been given a shortish white rope. It's been on my bucket list for a while - maybe next year it will happen 😇
    2 tips - stick a pin through the rope when starting the coil to keep the rope in place & always start sewing clockwise, so your project gets wider on the outer side of your machine and not under the throat, especially when making a bowl and the outer edge starts to curve up and inwards.😁

      Thanks for those great tips, Lesley! I'll be on the lookout for rope locally but may need to purchase online. This book was written by a quilt store owner in NC and she ships rope from her shop. That's where I ordered my roll. Sounds like many of us will be coiling rope in '23! LOL Happy Quilting,

    I have been making rope bowls with 1 inch strips and I love the idea of using a little skinny strips like this and leaving some rope showing in between. I was dreaming about making trivets last night so I’m glad I found your video.😂❤

      That's awesome, Vivian! It was the narrow strips that sold me on this project. There are bits of color like confetti and the prints are fun to see the color switch around. These are a fun project! Have fun and Happy Roping,

    I'm so excited to try these. Wonder if a little glue will help starting and stopping.

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise  Рік тому

      Yes, I'm sure it would, DiAnn. As long as the needle doesn't go through any wet glue, otherwise the needle will get messy in a hurry! I like the idea of wrapping lengths of rope ahead of time, that would be very helpful, too. Hope you get to give it a try! Happy Quilting,
      Lea Louise

    What rope did you buy to make these? There are several on Amazon but many have a nylon core. Thank for the great ideas , as always. .. I’m just going to,order the book and start making some gifts for Christmas?

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise  Рік тому

      You'll love the variety of projects in the book, Laura! For my trivets I used a 3/16-inch solid braid cotton rope which I ordered from the author's shop. Other projects provided use a 5/16-inch rope. These ropes don't have a nylon core and I'm not sure how that may affect the results or not. The trivet I made were gifts and everyone loved them. Have fun making your own! Happy Quilting,
      Lea Louise

      Thanks, Carla. The cord I used is 3/16" cotton and it worked great under the presser foot. Hope you give it a try! Happy Quilting,

    I think ovals are easier than circles.

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise  Рік тому

      You're right, Sally, I can see how ovals are easier. I haven't made one yet, but the center of an oval looks like a much easier start. It's definitely on my 'to do' list! Thanks so much for watching. 😍 Have a wonderful holiday,

    Where did you get your rope?

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise  Рік тому

      My rope came from the Mountain Thread Company, which is the shop owned by the author of the book. I wanted to try her rope first so I knew I had the correct product. Many folks use a variety of different ropes, even nylon and plastic. One of the most popular is clothesline rope which is usually cotton. Just make sure it's fits into your machine. Hope you get to give it a try. I loved making them. 😊 Sure appreciate you watching my video!
