Mackie Control is so 1990’s. Time to innovate
Steinberg did. SSL could've written a killer MIDI Remote Script instead of using Mackie...
March 2024. It runs fantastic on Cubase. I just sold my CC121. That is saying something. More updates are coming I know, but as of today it runs great and integration into my work flow has been really fun. Thank you SSL for paying attention to Cubase users and not just ignoring us. I like it so much I think I’m going to make a video of how I’m using it 👍
This looks just absolutely amazing. Great video!
It's good to see big companies also making portable ,good quality equipment for us home studio owners and those making music on the fly or on a budget.
I hope the price doesn't get to high to reach.
Great job
Does this controller have auto banking? (i.e. following the selected track in Cubase like the now retired Steinberg CC121). If not, is this planned as part of a future software update? Otherwise this device is effectively useless for Cubase users who routinely work on large projects.
But if it doesn't automatically follow the selected track in cubase (outside the mcu bank of 8), it is basically useless.
We seriously need something to surpass MCU or a newer version of it.
We'll again need to make our own profile in cubase i guess..... sigh
@@andesnekoIt’s called Eucon. Avid should make it available to everyone.
15:14 the Mind Bullets mode allows mixing without any physical input from the user.
This will make a great UF8 companion. Metering & EQ curves on large display look awesome. I can see myself using this as a dedicated fader for my master channel.
Would be great to see if the large display could render other things like FlexVerb's 6-band EQ or visualize the X-Limit plugin right there.
Comprehensive tutorial and nice looking and functional product. If I didn't have the UF8 then this might have been the way to go for me especially with the $699 price compared to UF8. My request still is to allow some kind of copy and paste feature when setting up cutom keys for SSL 360 , allow the unused buttons to be customized and add more push functions to the rotary knobs. If there is a new version of UF8 then my request is to add the LED strips screen under the faderbank buttons and make them cutomizable.
Nice 👍🏽
If the UF1 doesn't follow the selection in Cubase / Nuendo, that can also be an advantage. This way I could keep the focus on the voice while I edit other instruments on the Avid Artist Mix (8-channel controller) in such a way that they don't interfere with the voice. Quasi as a supplement to the Avid Controller. The Avid follows the track selection.
Same as the others, does this follow the selected tracks ? I cant see myself banking with the encoder on big projects. If it can't follow the tracks selected by the mouse, it's sadly pretty useless for me...
From the explanation in the video, it doesn't even have auto banking, unless I misunderstood.
As I'm using it right now, it doesn't follow the mouse click as you seem to need it to do. Regards
@@fencore Does it autobank?
(Able to move to the next bank by selecting the next channel from the device itself without having to switch banks manually, bank being a group of 8 tracks).
@@andesneko I believe it doesn't as you select a track from the current bank of 8. SSL has already answer those questions on the uf1 and uf8 FAQ. According to them, the lack of those features is a MCU thing, but they say they're working on a solution (if you believe it or not that's a different story, since the uf8 is 2 years already?). Regards!
@@fencore Thanks!
Really bad job from their part.
I had Icon fix this for me within a week of emailing them about it.

Does the controler follows the selected track in Cubase? Or do you have to bank to that selected track? Like on the UF8?
Interesting question. Today with 360 software 1.5 I can use my UC1 rotary encoder to go through tracks in Cubase , the solo and mute on the uc1 also solo and mutes the Cubase tracks. Finally I can solo entire busses. The uf8 however remains unchanged. A lot of buttons that don’t get used, it’s a shame.
I swear the lack of the controller following the selected tracks outside the bank of 8 is what makes these controllers basically unusable for big projects.
@@SamiJLaine we need a new standard. One all the DAw developer sign up to….just like VST
@@Harrysound You're absolutely right!
@@SamiJLaine …but Cubase does offer JavaScript I think, it’s probably the most prepared DAW for this multi controller future but it’s possibly arrogant and a little selfish to expect a company to invest the time and effort into one DAW.
Well, a lot of things I will not use (RTA, RMS metering, VU meters, phase correlation... SuperVision does it better), lots of knobs (and god knows I love knobs..!), but if it doesn't automatically follow the selected track, I agree... it's not worth it. But veeeery cool hardware design ! Too bad.
Im shocked it don't follow the daw track selected. That is nuts. I own the uf8 uf1 uc1. Might sell the UF1 and UF8. The UC1 is cool but again the daw don't select the hardware to change tracks. the UF8 never banks to correct track from daw, apart from reaper lol.
Any news about automatically following the track I have selected on Cubase? I just got this unit, and got a bit disappointed, that would be the number 1 feature I need...
33:39 This does not seem to work in Cubase. I have the UC1 open and I see the channel meter moving on the UF1. However the bottom of the screen has inserts on the bottom and there is no EQ showing up on the display...EDIT: I found you need to hold the 360 button the UF1 for several seconds and change the setting from your DAW to the SSL Plug in Mixer. Even though I switched to the Plug in Mixer on the UF8, you also have to do it on the UF1 as well.
Does this apply to Nuendo also?
Why there isn’t an option to control the 8 quick controls is beyond me. That should be what the default behaviour is for the first ‘mode’ or softly option. I guess it can be programmed but be aware if you are thinking of buying this that whilst it’s very nice to touch it controls most things you don’t care about or at least, don’t use that often, not enough to spend $1000 anyway.
No automatic track select, right? This makes this interesting controller useless.... at least to me.
For goodness sake, something else I have to buy
EXACTLY!
Can yo use the 4 knobs too control cubase quick controls/track controls?
I don’t think it does which is beyond me
FL Studio is top DAW of all Hiphop & EDM producers! Why is it not supported?
Common guys.Another one to buy? I lI be forced to buy the UF1 and that is because everything SSL markets will be good.Down goes my Bank balance.
I am actually very disappointed with the UF1. It is not intuitive in Cubase and does not work properly. I do not know what i have done wrong but it somehow is not compatible with Cubase.
Attention if you use the UF1 in combination with the UF8 (Cubase), you cannot select the lower last 7 tracks on the UF1. This is because the UF8 always selects 8 adjacent tracks and the UF1 can only select the top (left) track of the UF8 at a time. This means that the bottom last 7 tracks are always not selectable for the UF1. This is real rubbish.
Doesn't follow tracks so that would be a wast of money for anyone who actually needs to get work done.,
Lol. A lots of money for nothing... One mouse ruls all the DAW. Why we complicate things?
This controller is useless in Cubase. A total waste of money in my opinion.
