I imagine this is exactly how Debussy imagined it should be played. She played this like it was a dear old friend. Sooo beautiful.
He played it a lot faster. I prefer it slower but who am to argue with the man himself

One of the finest, most expressive and emotive pianists I’ve ever heard. I started collecting her recordings in 1998, starting with her interpretation of the Chopin Nocturnes. I’ve been a pro player for 30 years and am always so excited to hear musicians like this that lift your spirit and take the music to another level.
Breathtaking. She's so connected to the experience, it was as beautiful as the music itself. Debussy is beaming with pride, wherever and whenever he is!

She had my mother’s eyes. We would stay up till the early hours of the morning in beautiful quiet company, and as the sun’s rising rays would caress all of the world’s crevices she would play this. I would cry, oh how i would cry.
Uplifting. Sensitive. Heavenly. Musical in the grand sense of the word. I felt every note. What a rare spirit and a rare musician. Bravo Maria!
Finally someone who gets how it is supposed to be played. With heart, feeling and expressive pauses that are just the perfect levels of peace and tranquility. Fantastic rendition Maria. Thanks.

Maria João, sou um conterrâneo, um primo ou sobrinho. Ouvi a peça a chorar. Das mil versões que já ouvi, esta é a minha preferida. Choro aos 45 anos como uma criança pela beleza do momento, mas sobretudo por relembrar com carinho como a Maria João foi minha inspiração quando aprendi piano. E choro porque desisti do piano, por razões da vida. Foi como um divórcio. Pior, foi como uma amputação. Ainda hoje sinto, como se de um braço ou uma perna se tratasse. Ainda toco, claro, mas raramente porque ainda me dói. A minha professora era Russa. Com ela apeendi coisas que não imaginava. Com ela aprendi desde sentar no piano (coisa que nenhum outro professor me houvera ensinado) a toda uma coreografia corporal para ajustar o meu corpo aos movimentos do piano de forma a produzir o melhor som utilizando cada articulação do corpo. Com ela aprendi a amar a Maria João. Em especial para estudar Mozart, Schubert ou Schumann era obrigatório ouvir Maria João. Espero um dia ainda conhecê-la pessoalmente e contar-lhe tudo isso, mas aqui fica o meu testemunho e o meu obrigado, porque momentos destes valem por toda uma vida. Obrigado.

Her touch is so human. The notes are so living and breathing....I think at one point I can hear the keys crying and the chords humming. And then there are the so so sweet moments of silence that I am just feeling and forget that I am are listening.
Quite the most exqusite and touching version I have heard of this beautiful piece.

I've heard it said, and I could not agree more. that when a person understands life, they will plant a tree knowing that they will never live long enough to enjoy resting under it's boughs. But when you truly understand life you have left a gift for generations to peacefully contemplate life under the majestic tree you planted.

Wow Maria. It feels like flower petals are floating through the breeze, never to touch the ground as the air lifts and settles. When most people play this, it feels like they are rushing the best parts and clunking the keys as hard as possible in the forte sections. You magically play the dynamics perfectly without changing the original rhythm and the piano sounds as if it is playing itself, you must truly caress the keys. Thank you for your gift.
