Like you, I'm pleasantly surprised every time I pick up one of my LG phones as far as the display. LG P-OLED technology is slept on by most people.
I bought a used LG G8 three days ago with only 60$. The phone is very clean it's like brand new phone. I used to have Galaxy s21 but I gave it to my dad. Now I am using the LG G8 and honestly there is not a different between them. It is very good phone with a Q-HD screen which is very beautiful ..... if you are planning to buy one, just do it don't hesitate

Thats my main daily driver before I got the Pixel 7 now. TBH it's a good phone. Mine has Android 12 OS with Oct 2022 security patch. It's with me since it was launched and it never failed me. Battery is still okay and I plan to keep it ( as my back up phone now) till it breaks.
I've had the v40 thinq for about 2 years now.. I had the g8 and loved it.. Decided to go with the v40 instead because I wanted a little bigger screen. Both phones are incredible. It's completely devastating that the stopped making phones.
So is it good thing to buy the v40 fearly used in this 2023?

@@ifacedownworship Yes! I have a G8, and you can switch between 1440p, 1080p, and 720p.
Loved my V40. Gave to my Grandmother and got a G8 couple years ago. Love mine...the V40 recorded videos have better sound but the G8 now has Android 12. Wish V40 had Android 12. That's the only downfall for the V40. Otherwise you can't go wrong with either one of them.
G8 feels better in the hand with the screen to size ratio
I have this phone and its a beast. Battery is getting weaker after all of this time but it's the best I've ever owned. I hate to give it up but I would want something as good as the G8.
I have the g8x and am having a hard time finding a network to use it! I don't want to give up my phone, but the networks are not supporting them!

I just bought this phone 5 months ago brand new from an online store that still has it. Great specs for the price in 6.1 inch form considering its from 2019. I really love it especially the camera and the headphone jack + HiFi quad DAC. I have no need for high refresh rate as I don't game on my phones but for day to day apps. It's performing great. LG G8 Crimson Red Verizon.

I can tell I own the g8s since 2019 and it still gets updates! I started with Android 9 and got the Version 11 few months ago! Superb!

I have a multittude of LG phones from V20, G7, V50 (Sprint...total waste of money due to it never getting updates past Android 10 and security July 21), V60 with dual screen and pen. I just picked up another V50 (Verizon) on Amazon $134 (Android 12 with May 22 security) and it was renewed but PERFECT condition not a single scratch and 98% battery life. I use the LG phones for media devices with Tidal and my 400+ CD collection via FLAC as I also have a HUGE collection of IEMs and headphones (all audiophile grade). I have a few DAPs from FiiO and I really like using the LG phones. Thank you Mathew for the continued updates and reviews.
I completely disagree I have the LG G7 and I had a LG G6 I currently have a LG g60 and I can tell you that the G7 G6 you're amazing phones. Game no issue render 4K videos, sharp images. But to each his own
@@okaydudejm I dp not know if what I wrote, you took the wrong way as I was not saying anything bad about any of the phones, I did state that my V50 Sprint version was a waste of money due to it not really being 5G and the lack of software updated.

I have this phone and we actually JUST got the Android 12 update right before Christmas. I LOVE this phone. I purchased it per your recommendation in 2021 Love your vids. I have T- Mobile Btw don't know if that makes a difference with update times

Yes yes love love the LG G8 still and use as my secondary phone. Esp for the sound quality QUAD DAC 0 yes yes yes and headphone jack. And the camera is still quite good. I have as my main now Moto RAZR 2020 5G. I was quite dissappointed to hear they were leaving the market and was super looking forward to an update of the LG G8. The one feature I truly truly miss and have been searching for that was on the LG G5 was the Multiview Camera that allowed you to make videos using all three cameras...such a great feature they took out and hoped at least they would have an additional download to add as they did with some other camera features. I have been even searching for an app that would mimic this and still nothing surprisingly. And esp also have expandable memory

Fr I always expect more of an impressive experience when upgrading phones, but it's always just "pretty cool" initially. Software is something that I realized was pretty trash on my old phone with android 9 tho after using it again

@@asdfghjkl9706 Very good. I don't ever have a problem getting a full day out of it, I usually have it in battery saver mode, but I see no dip in performance.

Wrong on the updates. My G8 currently has android 12. The problem with my phone, and I bought it new, is the battery is dying. Sometimes when the phone get to 50% it shuts off. Also when the battery is low, if I make a phone call, the person I'm calling can't hear me. However, not complaining, the phone has done its job for almost three years. I'll be getting the s23+ with four years of updates. Hopefully, the battery doesn't die, lol. Btw, I'll still keep the G8 as my back up when I travel.
I got the Android 12 update for my G8 in September of last year
I loved that phone. Except the earpiece speaker under the glass was a deal breaker. I had problems hearing callers. Other than that I would still be using that phone.

Just picked one up for $90 for my son to use. He accidentally broke his LG G6 I had him using. I daily drove the LG G8 briefly in 2019. It's a solid device. Wound up getting the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition. I still daily drive that beast of a phone now! Haha
I wanted a V60 on AT&T, but no luck on Amazon. $300 + is a no go. A G8 at $150 is great for an audio hifi player and game emulation

I got one for free recently due to an error with an eBay order I made. Basically got the phone by mistake instead of a cheapo $50 prepaid Nokia I ordered lmao. Talk about getting lucky
Has a bit of screen burn-in and it's a little scratched up on the back, but it's really nice. Runs most PS2 and GameCube games smoothly on emulators, and 3DS works super good because Citra recently added Vulkan support which massively improves performance.

Thanks. what a coincidence. You made a video after i bought one cheap. I was just looking for SD 855 phone. Mine arrived few days ago, and i thought it had just 1080p screen, until i watched some YT video you can enable 1440p. Now it looks very nice. Haha
The last android update makes unlocking take SEVERAL SECONDS. It goes into some deep sleep mode and kills background apps. Makes the phone very difficult and frustrating to use.
I'm looking forward to buy this next month as a backup phone from ip13 pro max.

It has stereo speakers. The specs on these phones are all over the place online, but yea it does have sterero speakers just like the V50. Not to mention the camera and video quality of the G8 are better than the V50. I had both and the G8 is the faster phone of the two. Only thing better on the V50 is the speaker does get louder and a little clearer.

The thing I hate about the lg phones is that you have to sacrifice something. Lg g8 has good screen, good loudspeakers but has a small battery. Ok what does the g8x has to offer? Bigger battery but worse screen. How about Lg v50? Good display, bigger battery but has worse loudspeakers and a useless 5mp front camera. v60? Bigger screen but lower resolution, good speakers but the sound during video recording is worse than v50. Instead of keeping the good and adding more good to that they did something different that was not the best thing. Nonetheless they are a bargain when it comes to buying a new low budget phone or buying a used lg phone. Same price but you get so much more from the lg if they are in good condition.
They went out of mobile business...maybe that was the reason.

I liked the G8 at first, a few days later I noticed that its screen had a problem with black color when swiping, it leaves a dark trace and is too annoying,
It is a normal occurrence on OLED display known as oled smear, and it happens to all oled screen phone. But yeah, the G8 smear is worse compared to the other.
O over the LG phones. However, my LGG8 thinq no longer supports MHL (c to HDMI) connection. A shame.

@@matthews-tech I have the Sprint Variant the only way to get android 12 is to flash the unlock firmware with A12 and if it is unlocked it will work with postpaid ATT and T - Mobile
@@gilbertolozada8747 When you flashed the firmware for A12, did you lose the ability of the Quad Dac? That is why I have not done any flashing on LG phones.
@@markritacco270 no you dont you only loose it if you flash custom ROM if you flash official stock unlocked firmware all stays the same the only difference is no bloatware and the ability to use with ATT and T-Mobile it has to be sim unlocked before you do the switch to unlocked firmware

I love this phone too but have a few issues:
1. The screen at times turns on by itself as if I had pressed the lock button. Google Assistant will also come on by itself but I'll have to check if my settings are affecting it.
2. Google Maps seems to lag a bit on my phone. Sometimes my phone will struggle to be responsive if Google maps is on in the background. Considering the Ram, not sure why it's doing this. Not sure if it has to do with the Google Maps App.
At least once a year you should backup and factory reset

I got the android 12 update on mine (verizon) and it has been really slow and buggy than it was on android 11 or 10. I bought an Lg V40 for $100 and it is wayyy smoother (Android 10) when navigating around but not on intensive games though..
LG really messed up with the android 12 update, my wing(verizon aswell)has a lot of bugs after the update
Mine was the opposite. Got android 12 update and now runs super fast and smooth. Before it was lagging horribly.
I got my G8 with android 12 already installed, and surprisingly it runs really smooth. At first I was worried due to how much people have issues with the update, but thankfully everything worked very well

LG was my go-to Flagship until they got out of the game and the G8 had maybe the best display up to that point of any smartphone I've ever seen it was so sharp it was like 560 something pixels no phones have that now look at that display and put it next to the s23 alter or s22i bet you even though it's brighter on the Samsung it's sharper on the LG

Hi Matthew, I live in the UK, I have the LG G8 T Mobile variant ( shipped over via eBay ) which updated to Android 12 in December, (with security update October 2022). I love the phone very much, but since updating to Android 11 and now to Android 12, when I setup my Microsoft Hotmail email using the provided LG email client, it constantly shows a message ."exchange services running" in the notification drop-down, and always has a new email notification icon on the lock screen, with no apparent way to disable it. Going into app notifications to disable it does not work. This is most annoying and ruins my experience with the phone. Any ideas how to turn this notification off? Phil.
