animator animation breakdown reacts reaction reactor The Final Feast HOYO-MiX The Shimmering Voyage Vol. 3 (Original Game Soundtrack) OST miHoYo - Фільми й анімація
Cathy pin this comment so I can flex that I know you UwU
Yeah it's not mentioned often but I think Genshin really pushes this sort of Live2D style to some pretty high potential.
The in game engine art style you see is actually 3d art style that's skillfully done in 2d . That's why the dude said it looks 2.5 d since its a blend of both artstyles
The ui of the veluriyum mirage with all 4 female characters, that's actually 3d but it looks kinda 2d
@@spymadmax584 no, the UI of veluriyam mirage is actually a 2d drawing animated in live2d cubism (or after effects, but i believe live2d is what they use). you can tell by the rendering style and the lineweight/etc. there was a sketch of it floating around, it could be just a storyboard drawing, but the rendering style is completely different from how it looks in-game. the in-game art style is indeed in 3d with a shader to make it look 2d and 2d textures as well.
@@spymadmax584It isn't, it's called rigged animation/Flash animation.
This can be done in multiple programs like Adobe animate, Spine 2d and moho.
Its my favorite, everything looks so pretty and i love the artstyle
Hoyo is a master of 2.5D animation, their 2.5 d often looks better then most ,3D animation.
Have you seen their 3D animations in Honkai Impact 3rd? They are among the best animations I have ever seen, period.
than*
I remember someone said the animation between the 360 shot, the model was actually 2d but after a blast of red flash its turned now 3d and its undone again at the end where the camera comes to re rest
Genshin has 2 types of cut scenes, the in game engine one and the animated one. Animated one is like the tcg art style usually done for character quest endings and limited event endings. In game engine cut scenes is what we're seeing in winter night's lazzo or the final feast
I actually said the same about that red flash but cut it out of the edit. You can see the difference, but they did well pulling the distance out beforehand
@@CatharsisYT it's not obvious for normal viewers but i thought you'd easily notice that ,which you did.
Yeah i considered leaving it in but it was part of a sentence that wouldn't make sense. A majority of this video i was weighing what might and might not be CG, but upon one later watch i was confused where i was even coming from on some of it. Like i was trying to find potential cg where there wasn't (probably because I'm so used to that medium by now, thanks Honkai lol). I made that judgement on where the model transitioned but it was connected to something else that would've mentioned those removed parts and made no sense lol. There was probably 10 minutes of removed content because of those moments 🫠
@@CatharsisYT maybe the cutting room content could be reused as a outtro as brain fart moment or something like that if it's still a useful content...
@@PrograError I've thought about doing that for patreon content but it's not often i say something i don't intend to, and i don't love the idea of pay walling content anyway 😅
Winter night's lazzo would be nice to see next! Or Endless Suffering, both have similar and great animation like this one
Lazzo doesn't have much movement...
Tsubaki in thawing Snow is also an amazing one
The moustache twirling villain theme is a common theme for a villain organisation in the game, she is one of the 11 leaders of it, one of them has quite a twirlable moustache
"and i would've gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for you meddling kids"
You can differentiate easily. Trailers are always in full 3D while teasers are in 2D.
this is just their style they do 3d animations for trailers and demos but for teasers/tales they use this animation style
Mihoyo loves to break traditions both in music and animation
you could react to the character tales and see for yourself in the beginning Mihoyo was still testing the waters but as you can see now they have mastered this style
It's only a few hours until Fontaine, we are so hyped you can't even imagine
Btw, you should definitely check out one more trailer - Teyvat Chapter Interlude: Winter Night Lazzo. The OST from the trailer is called Elogia Cinerosa.
Doesn't matter which one you check, but it's great
Many people have already recommended the video "A Winter Night's Lazzo"
But I would also like to recommend the video "Tsubaki in thawing snow", definitely worth a watch, music and the animation combined almost made me tear up.
the reason why genshin is like this effort wise is for a lot of the team its become a passion project. the team was like very young very inexperienced and this was their first major project so now that they have the budget and people they do the absolute most they can. its super obvious too if you watch kaeya's promo (one of the first few characters) vs lyney and lyentte's (recent ones).
Im so excited for Fontaine tomorrow, underwater exploration is going to be so much fun
You should check out winter night's lazzo if you want to see more 2D trailers from genshin.
I second this
Now I kinda want to see a fanart of Arlecchino with a twirly mustache XD
Do you know ufotable, the animation company which animated demon slayer.
While the company itself is famous for their seamless blend between cgi and hand drawn art by rendering the environment and blending that with hand drawn characters.
I'm saying this because genshin also work kinda similar to it. While the environment is made from unity render engine while the characters themselves are drawn differently using cell shading technique to not give the cg effect to the characters, that's why if you ever notice the hair or the hair style, it's always the same whether in a cut scene or in game.
No wonder genshin is now working with ufotable and making an anime now, probably once i can enjoy an anime in EN dub 😂😂
pretty sure either some of the animations in recent videos are made by ufotable, or it's just hoyo team that learned some tricks from them because you can really tell there's ufotable's work/influence especially in water physics.
Thank you so much for doing a video on genshin's animation, I'd love to see you do more!
wowowowwowww what an analysis! i am learning a lot. love genshin animation right at the bat, but you offered an educated analysis and now, i'm amazed even more! thank you! please do some more!!
Got plenty of them in a playlist, but i promised the Honkai community I'd finish their storyline so most of them are from that game. The learning is all the same if that's your overall goal. There's some Arknights mixed in there too.
I used to animated with 2.5D animation in Blender and Toonboom (it is cheap as well) and it is pain in the arse to finish one project (I am part of a commision group so you could say I am not professional) so seeing Hoyo doing it you could tell the tremendous amount of Nodes and parts (layers) each one of em had and surely it will took a long time for me to replicate atleast one of these.
2.5D animation might be limiting but they manage to make it beyond it's capability and purpose. Mostly of 2.5D I've seen are flat despite replicating the feeling of 3D but these one had pleasing style on it.
Also in Anime community whenever they saw 3D on Anime it is automatically turn off but Hoyo proved me wrong that it could utilize as a good medium for Anime as well if handled properly.
Their works are great as a learning material for Animation in 2D, 2.5D, and 3D as well.
I am not aware of channels like this who review 2.5D Animations so I'll sub. 👌
If it's animated, I'm on board haha. I love the medium in all its forms and through all its methods. 3D in anime is still a touchy subject because it's usually just poorly utilized, but as Orange and even GoHands more recently have shown, there are ways to do it well. It'll only get better as new talent cycles in.
Also it may be worth making some videos of your own on the 2.5D process. Just progress videos if not tutorials. Some have asked me to do more on it, but I'm definitely not the one to be explaining that style in depth having very little direct experience with it.
@@CatharsisYT _Beastars_ and _Land of the Lustrous_ are indeed great example of great 3D Anime of all time.
Thanks but I'm bad at explaining things and never been tried to train someone since I am just in a project-based in animation department so I found channels like these who explain animation from their experience are well appreciated and also helps me as well sometimes. 👍
@@aoihitori someone will do that content for them eventually. I'm definitely not much of a teacher despite these videos. I'm more of a "see this!? It's SO COOL!" and prefer to show better people's work on the subject where applicable. Like.. I can do it, but I've got my own process and i'd look like a maniac trying to explain my own methods lmao
It's a pleasure to watch these videos and it's a pleasure to hear somebody who understands the matter talking about them. Thanks for your reaction!
WOW did not expect you to fully breakdown the trailer thats very cool i thought it will be like the other CC just saying it looks cool and thats it!
if you want 3d you can check out the 4.0 trailer of genshin impact! or a character Demos.
also teaser is always 2d trailer/demo is 3d.
If you want to you could also check out Teyvat Chapter Interlude: Winter Night Lazzo and Endless Suffering, two other Genshin animations with a similar animation style.
You should definitely check out their other cinematics in this style, there's quite a few
The genshin puppet animation has always fascinated me, throughout that whole trailer i was confused if it was 2D or 3D
Since the door has been opened to Genshin animation reactions like this, I'd be very curious to see you break down some of the Character Teasers and Character Demos in the future. Character Teasers are animated in a Live2D style like this, while the Character Demos are animated using a mix of the game's actual engine and some other effects.
For my personal recommendation, the Teaser and Demo for Nahida, "Nahida: Happy Birthday" and "Nahida: Boundless Bliss" both have some really interesting stuff going on based on my limited animation knowledge.
these types of trailers is definitely something where you can tell they improved over time. if you were to go back to some of the earlier ones, you'll notice how they used to be way less detailed. they didn't even animate mouth movements at first. but each trailer got a bit more detailed, until we got to the point we're at now.
As someone who worked in the industry, can you give an estimation range for the production of an animated video like this? And if you make it a full length show like Arcane, how would it stack up?
I never did this type of exact work, just tangentially similar, so it's hard to estimate. I've also got no real gauge on how long something of this style would take. It also very heavily varies on the project, company, overall budget, position and experience, size of the team, etc. For the whole project, I'd probably ballpark it closer to 50k. It could've been more depending on the factors i mentioned earlier. It could've also been way less if they used cheap outsourced labor from countries with less worker rights.
For Arcane, you're looking at the tens of millions. I'd not be bold saying closer to 100 million than not. It was a 6 year development and has that much money poured in for a reason. Productions of that quality aren't cheap
"Alright DAD" made me chuckle
He's a daddy alright...
I main him lol
Apparently the shot where it goes around her is her in game model.
Would you ever be interested in reacting to more of the animation cutscenes and videos for Genshin? I really love hearing your analysis on the artwork and techniques and it gives me an even greater appreciation that we receive so much animated extra content.
You should watch one of the more anime style ones, like the "evelasting suffering" or the "morn a thousand roses brings" short
3:10 "if villain - why hot"
a genshin animation to watch that even better would be the "Teyvat Chapter Interlude Teaser: A Winter Night's Lazzo | Genshin Impact" I t epic!
Winter Night's Lazzo next 😊😊😊😊
to my knowledge Hoyo does the same type of animation in their trailers as UFOtable in that the effects and backgrounds are usually re textured/painted over CG elements, but the characters are hand drawn. In the rare occasions where this simply isnt possible/isnt worth the tremendous effort, they will swap this and use a cg model in a hand drawn background with hand drawn effects
Another Genshin trailer that has this type of animation and some extra different types too is called, Endless Suffering.
Genshin has one of the best 2.5D animation you will ever see in your life
Will you react more to genshin stuff in the future?
I react to the music pretty much weekly, and I've got a livestream coming up on Friday night (Saturday if you're in Asia) listening to the short concerts. Animation wise, i touch on Honkai most often because i promised i would, and Arknights when i can. Genshin stuff just isn't as requested in that field
@@CatharsisYT you can try to react to genshin demos or version trailers, there's music and animation that you can check. and maybe more genshin fans will find your channel through that? but I dont insist, just a suggestion
random thought from an uneducated mind. What if some of these animations like Lyney's head turn was the same tech used for vtubers? Like the same type of rigging?
The concept is very similar, actually. The two would probably look similar if you looked at how a high end Vtuber model is rigged vs. this animation's project file. Not a terrible assumption by any means. It's just not the same "tech", just a similar idea applied in different ways
bro, the animations they did for sumeru trailer are amazing, xiao trailer for the last linter rite are also superb, I would like to see those too being dissected like this, hope you can give it a try
11:16 ofc Genshin knows *Impact*
I definetly believe that the illustrators had to paint each key pose separately, there is just no way any spine2d thing could have pulled off the amount of layering
Each key yes, but the movement connecting them can be manipulated pretty well with After Effects. That's the visual example i threw in there when explaining it. The guy has multiple process videos to show the amount you can get away with, but yeah full perspective changes need new art
Hoyo never opts out for less
Unless its anniversary rewards, that is
A lot of people recommended Winter Night's Lasso, but I'd rather recommend Endless Suffering !
8:50 Cool bro but why Charlotte gotta flip me off?
🇫🇷
New Genshin reaction soon? It’s been longer than usual.
I KNEW I WAS FORGETTING SOMETHING! SHIT
Well now i know what to record tonight. 2 days from now you'll have one
@@CatharsisYT Sounds good!
A
Guys who do these 2D animations should really consider doing vtuber models if somehow hoyoverse things go south
alright now that you did this. i wish you post animation courses on an alternative channel so much potential
There are far better people for that than me for sure haha
Yeah, I was insanely impressed with the quality. The skill and effort you need to put into this 🫠
