Damn, this amp can do Marshall, Randall, Mesa - all together and with no tubes. I'm really proud to purchase one some days ago. Loaded with IR player and FX section, its possibilities are endless. I've already had modern modelling amps for practice and demoing (Blackstar's TVPs - 15 for home and 260 for studio), but THIS monster is a real live action killer.
I am glad to see players finding value in the solid state design. I think the advancement of modeling has made players take another look at some older SS designs. and many great players have used them
I had two of em at some point in my life. The peavey eat those shitty cr pretty easy tbh. The orange looks the part but sounded only better then crappy line shit spider.
Dude you keep costing me money...your video convinced me to search for one and I scored one for 130 on eBay. Guess we'll call it fate. Haha great review though, as always!
@@Vazaqin the head shell is trashed but I'm decent with carpentry so am gonna make a new one. While I have it apart I'll probably give all the pots and jacks a good shot of Deoxit. The amp is a monster though, I wish there were demos without scooped mids on the Ultra channel. Peavey amps get so buzzy when you scoop them out, but keep mids and treble at 1-2 o'clock and they're massive, smooth, and aggressive.
This channel is the reason why I got myself a XXL, thanks again.
Fernando Ramírez you’re welcome! I always appreciate kind words.
You are an awesome guitar player man, absolutely love your vids! You made this amp shine, best demo out there for it by far
Isa Tariq thank you so much for the kind words!
I think she missed the train to mars.

Hum! They have so many great riffs and don't get the credit they deserve.
mrt77wv they are one of my favorite bands of the 90’s

This amp is analog, except for the reverb
My favorite solid state amp
Sweet Peavey Standard head underneath the XXL there. I've got both myself.
Mikey Gabbard thanks! I recently sold the standard
Do you already regret selling it?
So I'm buying one and after seeing this I cannot wait to play HUM riffs on it! 🤘😀🤘
To bad peavey don't do reissues .😢😭, when I first saw this amp when it came out ,I though it was fugly, but it sounds good 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Man, that's awesome as these amps just become harder to purchase! As a good wine, Peavey XXL becomes a brilliant collectible item.
Sounds pretty good though a little fizzy. I wonder, since you can get an Orange CR120 for about the same if they compare at all.
ArielsSmartyPants I prefer the xxl. I was never to bond with the cr120. It’s a good amp I just prefer the XXl.

@@redcomn god, I hate orange amps. I've never heard, or played through one that sounded good.

Glad to have helped- I guess?

@@PadraicPlaugher you did, I appreciate it. No nonsense reviews are the best, Peavey should have you on their website 🤘
dude you got a deal, they're going for $400-$600 now

@hovercraft Artifact awesome video! How does this amp take overdrive pedals?
I have an xxl i run with a klone overdrive in the lead channel sounds great!
Have you ever tried the Randall Solid State head and if you had how would you rate it against the XXL?
I did own a Randall solid state and it was just ok. I prefer the xxl
I don't pay much attention to peavey usually but thats a good amp there.
CJ99 thanks! You SHOULD pay attention to peaveys there are slot of sweet amps in their catalog
@@PadraicPlaugher Yeah but that also can lead to GAS attacks which I still get lots of anyways.
I’ve heard of warming up solid state amps with tube overdrive pedals... would it make a difference in the sound of this amp? Does this amp need it?
Doesn’t need it
@Thrash Metal Studio does a tube OD warm the sound of a solid state though?
@Thrash Metal Studio ok cool. Thanks!
... should be more like a solid state Triple X.
That’s why it’s a xxl and not xxx,easier
