Thanks, Mark! I just missed you in NY two months ago. My car arrived late to the DWW Horology Forum in September, and they locked the door when your panel started. I was the weird guy waving "hi" at you through the window! Best, Tim
Hey Mark, You mentioned briefly in the interview a shop in Tokyo that carries specifically time only patek. I was wondering if you could pass me the name of the store. I’ll be in Tokyo next year and would love to stop by. Cheers!
@@the1916companywatchreviews I saw you waving, Tim! Man ... so bummed we didn't get to hang out in NY. I'm back mid November, hopefully we can meet up then!!
I 100% agree with Mark’s sentiment that he won’t waste his time on things that don’t fit him. As I look at my own collection, I realize that half of the watches I don’t wear is mainly due to the size. It helps narrow down what I really like and search for. Great interview as always
Mark Cho sprezzatura personified. He‘s more dressed up than the other two but looks waaaay more relaxed and the clothes do not call attention to themselves at all. Magnificent.
I'm glad to see Mark Cho talking articulately on watches. All his watches looks well used and shows great character and customized for his style. I've seen him a few times in the Hong Kong Armoury shop in Central.
I absolutely love that you are pushing smaller sizes! The clothes comparison is just the thing. When I realised this and started sticking with only smaller watches - I feel a lot more attached to them (eg a nice simple calatrava.. my little cartier tank etc!)
Great video! Wish we had more reference shots to follow along. Going back to smaller watches is the way to go. Men seem to always underestimate the size of their wrists and overestimate the right size of their watches for wear. Mark said it right when he corrected the term “lady’s watch” with “unisex watches.” Wear what fits vs what the label says. Same goes for clothing. Mark has this size thing spot on!
I sent my (1950s) 2453 Calatrava to Patek Geneva for servicing and they also did a beautiful job with it. One of the lugs was bent so they had to do some polishing but did it so lightly that I could not tell. Like Mark, I was surprised by how little the service and repair cost.
100% with you on smaller size watches Mark. Love the size small clothing availability in store analogy. It is like the watchmakers have chosen to ignore the fact that most Asian Men have smaller builds/wrists and would prefer more appropriately sized watches. The market for this is huge in Japan, Korea, China, HK, Singapore and the rest of South East Asia therefore should not be seen as a financial risk but an opportunity. Lastly, I can understand the desire to size up sport swatches for legibility and heft but dress watches have to be smaller in order to look elegant and to fit under the cuff.
Excellent, elegantly produced discussion on Patek business decisions and watch restoration. Really appreciated the more technical points shared. About the sizing trend, are they going bigger? I would argue the opposite. Great video!
Brian always looks like he's lost at the start of these things haha. Sticks out a bit since Mark and Tim are very articulate and confident. Maybe he'll get the hang of it soon. Great video!
I know Govberg owns the company and all. I just hate having to hear him speak, he just seems pretentious and like he’s there just because the ownership allows him to put himself there. I am a big fan of Govberg jewelers and watchbox, just don’t think that it’s necessary to have the owner/owners kid in the interviews.
@@christopherneithardt lol I was trying to be nice. Maybe he can run the company really well, we don't know of course. But maybe this part of the business isn't for him. Hahaha
Brian is not bad, he does not come off as pretentious. Making videos and being on camera is harder than most think. It is not something that comes naturally to most.
@@currencyworld not saying any of those things, he can probably improve being around guys like Tim anyways. No denying speaking on video is difficult, so props to him on just doing it.
Fun. Couldn’t always keep up the image of the reference in discussion in my mind. Perhaps some tightening up with splicing- in corresponding images would help.
100% I think a less rushed approach with more reference shots is the lesson learned from this project. Last time Mark brought a pile of actual watches over from HK, they got stranded in the US for a year with Covid considerations. We didn't want to risk the same this time, but we should have included more model shots to illustrate the discussion. Best, Tim
I am another one of those 32-35mm watch guys. Absolutely refuse to buy or wear anything larger than 36 from any brand for any purpose. This makes it very hard to buy anything these days.
Great video as always, however the early conversation about customisation didn't seem that healthy. Agree with the perspective that the manufacturer does it best but if you've bought it, you should feel free to do whatever you want with it.
I bought a PP over one million $ and I asked for a 5968a 3 years ago. The saleman promised that I can have it within 3 months but 3 years is over it is still no news about the 5968A.
n00b here. What does it mean when he says a watch was “factory sealed” what does that look like and how can you tell your AD is giving it to you factory sealed?
Funny story. I own a Universal Geneve Ellipse solar burst grey dial, where the minute marker tip is painted in metal to adjust visual lenght, as the patek mentioned. Due to connection btw UG and Patek through Stern family at the time they were resellers I wonder how deep the connection btw the two companies goes..an intertwined story in many instances. Anyone has some clues?
Two years to get a watch restored by the factory?! That is absurd. Shouldn’t take more than three months. Hire more people or put your bums to make the new stuff and the more experienced staff to work on the vintage watches.
I agree with Mark sooooooo so much. Watches these days have strikingly desirable beautiful complications and designs, but the diameters are just too big! When you match it with your outfits, they just look like a hunk of junk on a wrist, sadly.

Great point about correct sizing being a primary criterion, Mark Cho, and wise not to let his watch dominate his lifestyle. Thanks for the video.
Great interview. Mark Cho is a true gentleman, a class act, who happily dresses first and accessorizes with a timepiece, second.
