For the first clip, my best guess based on what I know of first language acquistion in children: When you asked about the ball, Bunny remembered that she had recently dreamt about playing ball in the living room. So, like a young child who hasn't yet developed the contextual skills and Theory of Mind needed for full fluent communication, she says "see ball here here", assuming that you will know about her dream. When you didnt understand, she frustratedly said "dream" to remind YOU of HER dream, the equivalent of, "The dream I had, Mom, remember?", and she got frustrated because she assumed you knew about her dream and were playing dumb for some reason.
@@J_C95 At some point Bunny started to mention "Night Talk" or "Sleep Talk". I believe this is the first video about it(ua-cam.com/video/CFyuyoJbp08/v-deo.html, 0:50). It was hypothesized to be dream, so they woke up Bunny in the middle of sleep and asked about "What talk when sleep"(ua-cam.com/video/kQ2btFzDxPs/v-deo.html, 1:05). She replied it was about some "stranger animal". I believe they conditioned the "dream" button after that.
Possible that bunny saw otter’s reflection in the glass of the window? And then otter saw himself the same way? Does he recognize himself in glass/mirror like bunny does?
My dog can also recognize me when I'm talking to him through a mirror reflection. She often does this when I'm brushing my hair, and we usually have conversations
Just wanted to point out that a dog might not view "house" as the building, 4 walls. "House" might be a bigger area, including outside. I know my dog guards our "house" and that includes barking at any unknown person across the street and halfway down the block. So "stranger in house" should be considered accurate, even if the issue is something outside. Definitions are different.
Mom: "Bunny want play ball with mom? Hmmm?" Bunny: No. Bunny want write manifesto about use of doorknobs in oppressive human construction, but there are no buttons for that. For now, I'll settle for "Scritches."
Holy fucking shit! She recognized herself in a mirror and let you know that she realized what she saw in the mirror was herself with the buttons! That’s beyond incredible!
she's just amazing and so is the work you do with her and the patience and love you show both of them and encourage them to WANT to communicate with you ♥️ I absolutely love your channel ❤❤❤
That “ugh” at the end (though it may have been accidental) made me think of my 2 little cousins when they have a private joke that I, the Uncool Adult, just don’t get 😂
I love to imagine that's exactly what it was. :D Bunny: "I can see Otter outside!" Otter: "Haha yeah, I see the Otter too!" Mom: (visible confusion) Bunny: "...It's a pun on WATER, Mom! 🙄"
I love that little clip where bunny has said about heating a stranger dog, you can see after the response that she's looking like "shh, you don't hear that? How can you not hear that? It's so clear!". You can see the other look at other times she's asked a question where she's kinda saying "oh, i didn't think there'd be any follow up".
I really do think Bunny is trying hard to deepen the conversation but doesn’t have enough words and concepts. At first it seemed she was happy with communicating as it expanded her relationship with you but these days she seems stilted and troubled by not being able to communicate her thoughts. What do you think mom?
Interesting thought Todd. I wonder if the linguists on the research team, could create a 100 word language, like Toki Pona (pls the wiki, can not add links on UA-cam). And with 100 buttons, the linguists would also need to workout out, how to arrange for ease of use and minimal body movement. Eg. Verbs could be in the middle board
The way she stares at you sometimes, i can almost hear the narration of her thoughts, in the voice of an old posh British bloke who is unendingly frustrated with the "slowness" of his humans, and the vast dearth of words in which to make his true feelings known...
How do you train on homonyms? In the first clip, Bunny pressed "here, here, here" when discussing playing with balls, and in a subsequent clip you ask her "What do you hear?". Are there two buttons one for "here", and another for "hear"? Or is there one button with dual meanings? I tried to figure it out from watching which buttons Bunny pressed, but they were in different configurations so I couldn't.
Agreed, and I was wondering the same thing. That has to be confusing for one who doesn't spell. Maybe Bunny had a dream about seeing/hearing a ball here
Perhaps in the last clip Bunny and then Otter see Otter's reflection in the window, first Bunny sees his reflection walking around the kitchen and then Otter sees himself when he walks up to the window?
Bunny is so smart. First she was really thinking what she really wants to do inside. And ofcourse she wants scritches first next to ball and then playing with ball
Sounds like she had a dream about a ball that was outside, she pointed her nose towards the door when she was on the steps during the ball conversation. She wanted to go outside to see if it was there.
Ball, here, here, here sounds like hide n seek maybe. This is my first view and I'm so excited to know my boy and I communicate well but those buttons would be on another level 😮❤
Love you pupups!! 💜💜 I know many of Bunny & Otter's followers use the communication buttons and I I know Bunny and Otter use Fluent Pet, but has anyone tried the Hunger For Words brand buttons? They're a little more affordable than the Fluent Pet (which, in these crazy times, with prices of everything soaring, will help the budget) , just not sure of their quality.
About the Ball Clip, maybe she wanted to tell you the ball is here. As you were pressing the button "want play ball?". Maybe she thought you want to play ball and the told you "there it is". That would explain why she was walking away from the ball after. But who knows
I love watching your videos, I have never seen such an intelligent dog and otter isn’t to far behind her, we tried for over a yeah with our Yorkie from the age of one as he was learning so many things and it seemed he wanted to keep learning, but he couldn’t get it, he’s more of a show me dog, if you ask him what he wants and tell him show me he will show you,
it makes you process animals in a whole different way. I have a dog who I know understands me. But the interaction is only physical. Now I have the buttons for "outside" and "scritches" she just runs while my other dog (out of 4) hits them like she playing the drums.
Wow. Ive long though that dogs dream like we do. This video makes me certain now.also Animals are tapped into feilds that humans would call clairvoyant abilities. Many humans have that ability but in general the human species has forgotten how. Much love ❤️🙏
All I can say I that I believe all dogs are special animals. They possess abilities that we just don't understand. I have an aussie that I know is special because of the things he does. Unless you are super close to your dog, you may never experience these things. My dog never leaves my side and he knows me almost better then I know myself. Dogs are a gift and should be treated as such.
I think she was counting the balls she was able to see. She saw 3, 'here, here, here'. Did you try counting with her? Or she was trying to tell you to toss her the ball to 'here' emphasizing the place where to by pressing it 3 times.
What happens when you leave Bunny outside? I felt like you coerced her back inside and then she asked a question, "No?". Like its not cold outside for me, I'm a dog and it feels good, Why No outside?
I think Bunny saw Otters reflexion in the window. Bunny went to the window then when asked where was Otter, he went to where Otter had been standing in the kitchen.
Doesn't. The button was intended to be used as "here" but Bunny figured out the word has both meanings by a process we don't understand. I saw the first video where she started doing that and half way through the video the transcription changed.
I noticed that I could see Bunny's reflection in the window. Maybe she saw Otter's reflection. That could be why Otter said he saw himself also. Has Bunny seen her flection in water? Is that what she was trying to get across by saying water? I know you use the mirror for training. Do you have a button for mirror?
So this is verry random but like cant you ask bunny what dogs their barks mean. So we as humans can understand barks. And mabey even communicate to dogs true them. Or mabey the barks means nothing. Hope i will find out one day.
This implies she understands your questions without the buttons and you do not understand her wothout the buttons meaning she had netter multilanguage skills than her human
Question: Why does it seem like the boards are always different? Do you change them up a lot to make sure Bunny/Otter are "searching" for the words? I'm new here, trying to work it out in my head. lol
Get Bunny to sing a simple song w music. I find animals really like music. Place buttons w tunes so he can hit a word then a note then a word & note & make a really simple song, like go (note) outside (note); Bunny (note) is hungry (note); feel (note) pain (sad note); or (happy note)! I bet she will learn piano notes faster than words……
For the first clip, my best guess based on what I know of first language acquistion in children: When you asked about the ball, Bunny remembered that she had recently dreamt about playing ball in the living room. Does this fall into assuming competence?
It's weird. We have to assume Bunny can communicate but that she also makes mistakes
Very interesting!
Or bunny was just too sleepy to play ball.
I'm not familiar with this channel, how would the dog have acquired initial understanding of what "dream" means?
@@J_C95 At some point Bunny started to mention "Night Talk" or "Sleep Talk". I believe this is the first video about it(ua-cam.com/video/CFyuyoJbp08/v-deo.html, 0:50). Bunny pressing, "human sound work see", whole you were in a zoom work meeting. Was super trippy and cool
It's amazing that, no matter the configuration of the buttons, Bunny is able to locate the right button and communicate. Brilliant!
@@EXFIREMEDIC Haha that might be, and as a non-English native, I can appreciate that speaking in English takes so much more time than listening!
Dang, these dogs even write poetry now! "Otter, Otter, water." Love it.
😂
Possible that bunny saw otter’s reflection in the glass of the window? And then otter saw himself the same way? Does he recognize himself in glass/mirror like bunny does?
Might be mistype/dyslexia-like stuff as well.
Otter ≈ water
Kyl, that was my first thought.
I wondered that too because she said she saw Otter when she was looking out the window but when asked where he was she showed he was in the kitchen.
I thought she was calling otter, asking him to come look out the window.
@@erykaton170 very possibly
Maybe Otter and Bunni saw Otter's reflection in the glass door. Bunni was spot on thinking Otter was working on a 'zoom' call! Love it!🥰🥰🥰
Awww! So fun they are to watch.
Yes
came to see if somebody thought about the noitcelfer
My dog can also recognize me when I'm talking to him through a mirror reflection. She often does this when I'm brushing my hair, and we usually have conversations
"So, Otter, the human noises you are hearing are called "work". It's what Mom likes to do. Not sure why."
😂
Yes, Bunny is so smart teaching her little brother

@@jonbaker1697 gotcha. There are ways to further expand and expedite Bunny’s natural curiosity and desire to be understood.

Pretty certain they have two buttons.

similar meanings together. "hear, see, smell", "here, there, where"
Since Bunny uses dream for think, it's almost like she thinks she left a ball outside.
'ball is to be played outside, use your head woman' :P
4:49 when he looks out the window and says otter he means "make otter come here so that he can see it together with me, what is outside!"
Hi Bunny! hi Otter! So smart👍🏻😁❤️🦊
*"See ball here (and) here (and) here!"*
There were 3 balls... here, here, and here!
“?want scritches” was folded in ( w (want ) “ball”. I think she was answering yes to ?want scritches? 🙂
"how would you know whats a real otter?!" - took a while to process.

How long did it take you to teach your dog this?

Dream just means I'm thinking. Ball meant she wanted you to pick up the ball and play since you brought it up lol
I would love to do functional MRI on doggo when communicating
Mom asked if she wanted the ball. Bun showed mom the ball was here.... Buns never Said she wanted the ball.
Here, here and here - just like Mom pointed out!
It seems like the time she is thinking is like she is translating from dog to button

"Otter Human Sound Work Sound See" could mean "Otter, the human sounds you are hearing are called 'work'."
Is it possible Bunny saw Otter's reflection in the window and that is why she said she saw Otter out there?
Do you have a video of the two dogs meeting for the first time?😊
There are some on her instagram.
Curious to learn more, I am a professional dog trainer and a vet. How to get started?
Bunny is such a pretty, sweet girl. 😊
