this is the COOLEST drum corps video I've ever seen! I LOVED the show live and knew it was a winner right away. Am sharing with all of my non-corps friends so they can see what it's like, if there were only a way to block out the left side of the screen to show what it's like to march contra LOL. p.s. I LOVED how much fun you guys were having behind the ramps, etc.
You know what would be cool. If you like played both at the same time. Like a split screen. The left rehearsal and the right performance. The editing would have to be perfect but the result would be awesome. If some walks across the split screen they'd change from regular clothes to uniform in just one step!
in reality it’s not possible for someone to walk across the screen like that though, they would be on both cameras at once and the second they walk off of one they walk off of the other, they would magically have to appear on her other side for that to be possible
The guy doing the handstand at 2:38 is my old band director. It was my first year in band last year and sadly he left. The new band director showed us this today. Just want to say its awesome.
Hey! I’m a section leader at the school he came to. I feel bad for you guys, because he is such an awesome person and director. I’m a senior and I’m really sad that I have to go as well.
the BlueCoats are my favorite corps as well and can not wait to audition for ya'll in the future love love LOVED this show! i have watched all of ya'll's go pro videos and performances i am a die hard BlueCoats and DCI fan LETS GO BLOO!!!
This show is so freaking cool, and it was what cemented my decision to aim for bluecoats as the corps i want to join. Top notch editing, playing and performance.
Oh my gosh this was absolutely incredible!!!!!! Watching you all makes me so happy to be in marching band all the hard work is absolutely worth it!!!! Good job my heart is pounding right now I'm in the Warner Velvet Blues marching band and our band went to your performance in Florida thank you so much for sharing the experience ❤️ our band is going to Hawaii for the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor and the hard work done is just amazing thanks and can't wait to see the next show for 2017 ☺️
😁You are so inspiring! You look and sound fantastic too! ✨You guys look like you have so much fun doing this. This is by far one of my favorite shows. By the way I love that vocal you guys have at 1:58 😊 Thanks for posting!
This video makes me want to seriously play the Euphonium again. I started out on the Euph but switched to percussion because I just couldn't get my lips to do what they needed to. Now that I've been in band for a couple years now, I understand the amount of dedication and practice it takes to become good at playing an instrument, and I feel like I could definitely do it now. (With a bit of time.) I'd also like to say that this video is super cool and very well put together. The transitions from rehearsal to performance are very smooth. I'd ALSO like to say that I watched the show multiple times and didn't even realize you guys switched to trombones, which is totally awesome.
I can't wait to share the field once again this summer with you guys in our Alumni Corps experience. Six Words and LET'S GO BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
holy shit I just realized, were you the Baritone who dropped their mouthpiece during the encore run in the opener. I just saw a tuba headcam and someone droped their mouthpiece and I think it was you 💀
Forever wishing I could be in a drum corps but I play piccolo, my band director said start learning baritone but idk if 4 years will be enough for me to be good enough to be in a big drum corps like this, maybe Santa Clara vanguard?
You can do it!!! There are DOZENS of drum corps members who also play a woodwind instrument! I'm actually a bassoon player and exclusively played that until my junior of high school where I started learning baritone for marching band while continuing on bassoon for concert season. There were two other bari/euphs that I marched with this summer that were originally clarinet players(one marched Oregon Crusaders for a long time and the other marched SCV for a few year). And another friend of mine who is currently finishing his music degree with bassoon marched Madison Scouts and then BD on tuba. I can keep going.. It is possible!!
I actually played basson my 7th and partially 8th grade year! rip I got braces so I had to stop that... But I just a hold of my best guy friends marching bari and he said I should really get my hands on a baritone because within 20 minutes (I already knew Bb because I sat next to the for 1 and a half years wile playing bassoon) and he taught me F and the bluecoats warm up :)
Lexie Mason I know this was a while ago, but you can totally do it! I'm a saxophone player that started playing Mellophone 3 years ago and I'm marching with the Boston Crusaders now and auditioning for Bluecoats next year. It takes a ton of hard work and dedication but totally worth it!
I actually want to audition for Bluecoats this year(even though i've been playing for only 5 month), so I'll be working my butt off until November. You inspire me.
Do your valves get bent easily or is that a problem that happens on older Yamaha non-encased valve instruments. My high school has 10+ year old Bari's and the valves can get bent only like 2 weeks after being fixed
Not really. It happens but its to a hand full of people in the section maybe once. Usually when that happens its because the horn is being held wrong/the valves are being compressed at an angle
So I'm about to turn 16 , I have been playing Euphonium for 3 and Half Years and Until now find out THIS EXISTS , WOW ! So.... how do you join the Blue Coats...
taeyiu hey! It takes a lot of time, commitment, and good practicing but it is soooo worth it. If you're looking to march, I highly recommend buying some audition packets and talking to people who have marched already
What type of Baritone is that? The one I use now is a Yamaha YBH301M, and i'm thinking of getting on like that but I can't figure out what type that is?
I nearly had a heart attack when you let go of your slide while you were out in 4th position! Don't do that!! But anyways, really cool video! Congrats on your championship and an overall amazing season!
I wasnt trying to be rude. I can tell by the way she holds her slide and by her timbre that she isn't primarily a trombone player and there's nothing wrong with that. Just took the opportunity to point out that letting go of the slide while it isn't locked is a huge no-no. And not everyone in the comments section is a sophomore in high school, my friend. I know what I'm talking about. I can guarentee you that.
Yes I know that, very few DCI members are primarily trombone players, but they still know that they're doing better than anyone in the world. She may have done something that you may not have recommended, but trust me when I say that she's good enough that nothing will go wrong, she's got it under control. I'll admit I only played trombone for 3 years, but I marched for OSU and I saw them do things like this often also, they have enough control to make sure nothing goes wrong.
Well the reason it wasn't an absolute disaster was because her slide wasn't greased (which is another no-no but for a different reason). Drum corps members are human too and they either make mistakes or don't know any better sometimes. They're still kids and they're always learning and growing. I know because I marched with one and I'm on staff with another one. And for the record, I think she's a very talented individual. That's not what I'm questioning.
Were you the one who lost your mouthpiece during the opener during the encore? If so, amazing recovery! Such a great show, i wish i knew what DCI was when this show was on tour!
Are you in bass or treble clef. I'd assume bass right? I play baritone too, except in treble, although I want to learn bass clef. Btw, I was at Tanglewood when you guys performed on July 6th, which turned out to be my birthday! Also, do you know Alan in colorguard? He is one of the two guard staff at my high school.
Yeah he is! I just saw him yesterday because we had our home show yesterday. I finally asked him the first chance I got if he was there at Tanglewood. He said he was, but they were away for the day. He really lost so much weight from last year! When I first saw him this year, I thought, "that's not Alan, is it?"
+Nicole Oliva I can only imagine. I should be auditioning next year in November because I am a woodwind player and I've been practicing Euphonium. I have to get the money to do it and buy a mouthpiece and all that jazz. I've been with you guys ever since Tilt (When I first saw DCI) And I always knew you guys would win. Proud and I can't wait to call myself a Bluecoat! Thanks for replying, it's hard to get one.
Yo you guys are amazing I actually just started marching and some of the staff say I'm one of the best marchers of my school band I might want to join a DCI band like you guys but I would be really nervous it looks really hard. I'm a trombone player but I have to March baritone but you guys did a fantastic job
+VidSourceGames I have heard people join dci world class corps in middle school so with enough hardwork it's possible. I also play trombone but my highschool puts all of its trombones on baritones for the darker sound and it isn't horrible getting used to it I just memorized positions to fingerings (first valve 3rd position, first and third valve 6th position, etc.)
Hugo Loya really? i never knew that middle schoolers-high schoolers would be able to join top DCI bands, and yeah baritone is easy to learn its just more annoying and heavier
I loved your guy's show and you guys are like my favorite drum Corp being a trombone and baritone player myself I loved how they were able to play both instrument but why aren't you wearing gloves when it transitioned from the practice run to the real show? I mean you wore them in the practice run but not the real show, I march myself so it's kind of weird for u not to be wearing gloves, but anyways love u guys #Bluecoats,#MarchingBand,
Cotton marching gloves without the grip beads If you're looking for something that will last a little longer then a lot of people use baseball batting gloves or Mechanix gloves

I could watch this video every day and not get bored at all
B) thank you!
As a fellow euphonium player, low brass kicks ass :D
wow, that's weird, we have another baritone player at my high school and his name is Bryan Tucker
I can assure you he is a true legend.
And high brass tears ass to shreds
Ryan Tucker tuba for life
Ryan Tucker i believe you mean baritone kick brass. Im a baritone aswell
hahaha that bass trombone near you in the ballad is popping some FAT pedals
hitting those pedal F's in first position. I figured out how to do that and now everyone hates me :)
Bass trombone life is a grand one.
He was on top of the ramp, being miced. Regardless his pedals were fat af. I actually know the dude.
He did a face cam, look up Javi Ayala
Ken Fernandez there are four bass bones in the ballad, two were on the top of the ramps and the other two were on both sides of that ramp
It's been an honor to have been with you my first two years of high school, Nicole!
HECK YEAH GIRL EUPH
Rabid Racoon fuck off 8 year old

You know what would be cool. If you like played both at the same time. Like a split screen. The left rehearsal and the right performance. The editing would have to be perfect but the result would be awesome. If some walks across the split screen they'd change from regular clothes to uniform in just one step!
that would be awesome but the tempos aren't perfectly the same so it wouldn't line up the entire time :(
Nicole Oliva aww
in reality it’s not possible for someone to walk across the screen like that though, they would be on both cameras at once and the second they walk off of one they walk off of the other, they would magically have to appear on her other side for that to be possible
KDS it's split screen, you'll have to cut the frame in half then merge both videos but it's quite impossible to get the same exact shot in both
7:28 "NICE SHIRT!" I love it
"The bluecoats" vocal
Stating a fact. Not even a compliment, it is a nice shirt and you cannot deny it.
Yay I'm glad I found another girl that plays euph 😎😎
- UssMines - mellophones are smaller, have larger bells and are pitched higher.
Trellis Rose omg im so sorry i came back to this video knowing this was an euph and i saw my stupid comment haha so embarrassing
My school has 5 euph players
+Trellis Rose There's one in my marching band.
1:37 It's your JOOOOOB to give them what they want! -Dan Brandt :D
Crooker Lelouch I thought that was Malik at first
It's Dan tho
I have no idea how, but I have repetitively watched this show so many times Ik all the parts, and its so addicting.
The euph life is a grand one... you usually get "what instrument is that?" Or "is that a tuba/mello?"
Epic Ninja no you don't lol. People are more likely to know what a euph is than a Mel.
Is tHaT a MaRcHinG tRombOnE

The trumpet solo backed by the trombones was amazing!
I feel like before and after they do the show it's like watching a first person perspective of the mii lobby
Honestly I loved this show IT's my top 5 from all the DCI groups this band is great and I love them!!

Is that a wild Christopher Bill I see in the beginning?
What type of Baritone is that? The one I use now is a Yamaha YBH301M, and i'm thinking of getting on like that but I can't figure out what type that is?
That is a YEP-202MS
Where were your gloves during encore
I had been playing on my phone all night and just didn't think about putting them back on
lol btw did you see when the crown guard lined up their phones in the awards ceremony?
+Rubik Builder LLC nope, I did not
So tell me... are the 6 words "be the best we can be"? because that sounds overly generic to me (crap, that rhymed)
Nicole Oliva Where are your gloves for the encore, also, i love the trombone part
Honestly, I was playing on my phone all night and just didn't think about putting them back on. And that was one of my favorite parts too
Really nice sound
Thanks to the guy that dabbed
I nearly had a heart attack when you let go of your slide while you were out in 4th position! Don't do that!!
But anyways, really cool video! Congrats on your championship and an overall amazing season!
Not to be rude, but I can guarantee they know what they're doing more than you, me, or anyone in this comment section
I wasnt trying to be rude. I can tell by the way she holds her slide and by her timbre that she isn't primarily a trombone player and there's nothing wrong with that. Yes they're human and they make mistakes, but they're the best in the world. They're basically superhuman
Umm, I have question. Did you cut that loose thread off your suit before the finals performance?
What'd you say at 2:02?
There was a horn in the back of the field and I didn't know who it belonged to
Really Interesting, I've never actually seen a forward Euphonium. All the ones we have are Upright.
Danny Polonsky yup! We use forward facing horns for every instrument here
this must've been so fun to do!!!!!!!!

why no gloves for the encore?

what kinda trumpet is the one in the thumbnail

Kameryn Sabino triple tonguing
How is the forward marching defined?
Bwahahahaha
Ouity Do you know?
Straight leg on the down beat, 10% bend on the crossing counts
Is the articulation of the front foot on the down beat a flat foot?
back of the heel while marching forward unless its a jazz run
Were you the one who lost your mouthpiece during the opener during the encore? If so, amazing recovery! Such a great show, i wish i knew what DCI was when this show was on tour!

I had practiced holding it in the off season but I wasn't totally comfortable with it during brass block until maybe the last week of spring training.
+Nicole Oliva Did you ever have moments where it was like "Oh my god my arms are numb"? Lol ive held a marching euph and my arm immediately hurt XD

Cotton marching gloves without the grip beads
