I've got a new head gasket for one of these, you can have it if you like. I've never had one of these powerheads apart, so am not familiar with the lower pilot ring you describe, will have to look at the parts list. Those individual needle bearings are a challenge indeed, "watch maker work", wish my hands were steadier. Those cylinders did clean up nicely!
I actually have new headgaskets but I only use them when really needed(Im Cheap,HA!).I just know you dont have to put a new one on every motor its not realistic. Kodibass does the same thing you learn from years of experience what you can get away with. As for the the pilot bearing now just an educated guess just centers the powerhead to the mid section maybe there is slop there not sure. Dowel pins would of been cheaper if thats true. The bearings on the rods I do the same way as the centerbearing after getting it close to the crank journal pretty easy actually. Must of been a fun job in the powerhead shop of OMC setting those needles for 9 years and thousands of motors,LOLL! Yes the cylinders came out great not always that lucky Stay tuned!
Thanks Chris just got done in the shop Winters here finally in the low 20S at night cold for November in these parts. I almost got this one done need to get a gear case servicable for it was missing. Must be even colder by you are further north. Take care hope all is well and stay warm...
So many of these older 2 strokes get junked. Shame, as these aren't made anymore and they're such great outboards... Love how you save them to live another day.
Well Thanks for your comment if I didnt get these way back when they would of been long gone for sure shredded and melted into something else years ago ,HA! Really not much to bring this one back just some labor and a minimal of parts so far well see .Stay Tuned!
Nope they break rings been doing it this way for over 40 years. I do use it on bigger outboards of course. Thanks for your comment. Stay Tuned if you like this content and Subscribe and Like it helps a small channel grow..Thanks
