    Good points. My view is that golfers need to get a reliable ball strike as a basic start to playing well. Once they can do that
    1) keep the tee shot in play by using a club that you can control
    2) target your shot to the best place for the next shot. On the fairway use clubs you know will keep it in play.
    3) aim for the middle of the green, but take into account your shoot shape/ dispersion pattern.
    4) practice lag putting and chipping to a target so that the next putt is short.
    Manage expectations. Most golfers score patterns/ game is erratic. plus or minus 10 shots. Not a linear decrease.

      Thanks for watching - lot of great points in your comment! I think expectation management is huge - once you learn the PGA Tour stats for the best golfers in the world it's a game changer. Like they only get up and down from sand about 50% or only make 54% form 8-feet... definitely not what we always see on TV. Thanks again for watching

    1. Decent ball striking. Without being able to advance the ball, with all the mental game and strategy does not mean anything. If you can advance the ball 7 out of 10 times decently, you'll be fine.
    2. Know your carry and AVERAGE. Not the best flush 8 iron with 30 mph wind behind you.
    3. Around the green - putt first, bump and run second, sand wedge last option. You don't even need a lob wedge.
    4. Know your dispersion with tee box clubs and make sure your dispersion fits the hole to avoid trouble as much as you can.
    5. Try to avoid 3 putts at all cost.
    6. Double bogeys or worse are killers. Avoiding these is the key. Not making birdies.
    7. One shot at a time and have a short memory.
    8. Aim for the middle of the green. GIR is king.
    9. Enjoy the game. After all it's just a game!

    Excellent. To add, 41% (average) of your strokes are putting.
    Practice more to lower your score.
    However, few most needed advance shorts are 'needed' to take away your pressure for the shot at hand. 🎉

    Can you elborate on not worrying about not worrying about the right side even though you have a cut/fade? Do you never put too much spin on the ball?
    I have a draw and my miss is mostly to the left.

    • @wickedsmartgolf
      @wickedsmartgolf  Рік тому

      I think it's important to figure out where the trouble is in your pre-shot routine then focus on what you want... most golfers focus on what they don't want and sabotage thier game at times.

    The best tip to breaking 80 is to get good enough to start scoring in the mid to low eighties very regularly! If you can’t get regularly in to the mid to low eighties, then even these very good tips aren’t going to get you into the 70s. These are really good tips for most golfers to shave a few strokes off your score, for sure. Maybe for a high handicap player, if they didn’t know these tips, maybe they can save eight to ten strokes. For a mid handicap, maybe four or five strokes, at most. For someone shooting in the mid to low eighties frequently, maybe three strokes or two. Here’s a tip he could have added: Aim for the center of the green on any shot that is more than 130 yards if you don’t regularly break 90. Aim for the center of the green at 90 yards or more if you don’t regularly break 100.

    Great advice. I would differ with you on the hero shot though, those are my most memorable golf shots, the ones that bring me the most joy on the course. Now I can 8 out of 10 times pull those off, so I guess I'm different, but weigh the risk I would say, I go for it at least 50% of the time.

    • @wickedsmartgolf
      @wickedsmartgolf  Рік тому +1

      Yeah I agree that hero shots are fun and can be epic but can also lead to some big blow up holes. I'm basing this off the book, Strokes Gained, which they analyzed shots lost when out of position off the tee. Good book if you like geeking out on analytics like me. Thanks for watching!

      @@wickedsmartgolf Yes I do, which can also be a HUGE problem in golf, "over analyzing" Now, I like to assess the situation, weigh the risks, and then be confident in my decision, second guessing yourself is the real killer. I'm going to get that book though. Thanks!

    4:03. If i spray my driver 70m on course i play because its tight and tree lined, i would loose 7 or 8 balls per round.
    Most holes just require a 180 staighty and in fairway

    • @wickedsmartgolf

      Longer distances into every green but in the fairway doesn't guarantee lower scores. Sure, some holes require less club off the tee but generally speaking want to advance it as far as possible

    Very few golfers ever break 80, I have plenty of knowledge of how to do it, just none of the skills. 😂
    I'd like to know what length golf course average golfers would have to play break 80 regularly.

    • @wickedsmartgolf
      @wickedsmartgolf  Рік тому

      Lol you're not wrong. I'm a golf writer and recently wrote a piece for a client and found according to the USGA the avg handicap for men is 14.2. Roughly less than 15% of the total male population has a handicap lower than 7.9. Google said the avg golf course in the US is 6600 - so my educated guess is that most golfers don't tip it out at 6600 so maybe 6000-6200 is where the likely break 80 from. Appreciate you watching the video!
