Hey Kris, thanks for watching. I will definitely be grabbing the DVD when it's released. Totally loved it.
Best movie about ANY band of ANY kind EVER. What a band, what a legacy and what a great doc.
Absolutely. He was definitely one of the greats. Thanks for watching! - Bret
Hey Colin, thanks for watching. The documentary is a real must-see, I think for any music fan. It's a great story, even if you are unfamiliar with the band. They only released 3 albums - well, there's a fourth that came out 15 years after the last one. But the original three are all gems. Cheers. - Bret
Hey Rob, thanks for watching this one. I also picked up the Third Box Set a few years back - loved how they included the lead sheets with it - such a great detail. Will be looking forward to your RSD retrospect! I will have to check out Dave's video - I believe I have it saved in my Watch Later playlist. Have a great weekend. - Bret
Thanks for stopping by, Dereck. Definitely worth the 2-hour investment.
Super review of a movie that captured Big Star and gave Chris Bell the due that he often isn't given in the shadow of Alex.
Thank you Bret. I must admit, I dig that orange vinyl!
Saw it last night, it's available on Netflix streaming. Was a fan of the band before watching it but now I'm hooked. Good review.
Some song recommendations for someone new to Big Star:
Thirteen
September Gurls
In The Street (was covered by Cheap Trick & used as the theme for the 70s Show)
I'm In Love With A Girl
The Ballad Of El Goodo.
All gems. :) Thanks for watching. - Bret
Hi Bret. Glad to hear the documentary is good.
watched this astonishing tribute doc the other night.did jody stephens himself signed that copy?wow! double coloured ""nothing can hurt me"" vinyl as well.again, another great review mr.helm.
I've been looking forward to this movie for years now - been following them online since they were in pre-production. However, I don't have on-demand or iTunes, so I will still have to wait until they do a proper DVD release. I understand they did gloss over some stuff to keep the peace, but regardless, how great that it was even made..
Amazing review Bret.
I have it on my radar. I heard Dave {fatbackfunk} talk about it and he said it was really good as well. That RSD issue was nice. I was lucky to get the box on RSD a few years ago, I will be doing a five year RSD retrospect soon. I will show it then.
Thanks, you did this very well and classy~

I loved Big Star, The Box Tops, and Alex Chilton. Alex was just a great singer. His death really hurt me.
Bret, thanks for this. Have you had a chance to read the new Chilton biography, "A Man Called Destruction?" It's an incredible book.
Enjoy your stuff, a lot.
Hey Bob, thanks for watching. Yes, I have 'A Man Called Destruction' - I've been working my way through it. Really fascinating to hear about his life - pretty intense. Thanks for the kind words. - Bret
Alex would’ve said “why the hell would you wanna watch this?” Such an anti-star, he was.
