That if you're depressed or despairing it's your fault and you're a sinful person mired in pride for being like that? Yeah, spot on. You really feel all his loving compassion and understanding for the suffering of others. /sarc
I’m a Phlegmatic through and through. It’s despairing learning that our path to sainthood is the hardest, but I take consolation that one of my champion Saints I admire the most was also a Phlegmatic here on earth: St Thomas Aquinas…. Big shoes to fill I must say, but there’s hope for me 🥲
Thank The LORD our God for priests like Fr. Ripperger.. Though unworthy of such wonderful Ministers of Jesus Christ, such is The Mercy of God, He still delivers to us such amazing and wonderful priests..! Praise be Jesus..! Ave Maria..!
Things that help a Melancholic: Joyous attitude Fortitude (because he doesn’t want to do the things that will cause him suffering) Charity (drag him out of himself- love of God & love of neighbor FOR the sake of God) Encouraged to be busy with beneficial activities such as work & hobbies in order to keep his mind off of his sorrow) Hope (overcome depression)
yes this is so great! you have great understanding.. would you also be able to do the same for the other temperances? I tried but am not able to capture what Fr Chad is actually saying. 🙏
Thank you Father. Penanceware done. This is so interesting. Therese of Lisieux was a melancholic. I think God gives people the personalities they need to get His work done in the world.
but she knew how to put on the other types -- during recreation, she acted sanguine, as she spent her energy trying to bring levity and fun to her fellow sisters, regardless of how she was feeling interiorly.
I never knew how much of a sanguine I was but I’m glad I stumbled upon this. It’ll help me in what I need to do to fix my spiritual life and life the life God intended for me.
Listening to this has confirmed what many online personality tests already told me. I'm more or less equal parts sanguine, melancholic, and phlegmatic. When I listened to the descriptions, I could not relate to the choleric at all, but for all the other temperaments, half the traits were "that's so me" and the other half were "I don't do that". From what I've observed, my immediate environment and the weather seem to have a lot of influence on which temperament dominates.
This is a spot on description. I'm a melancholic with every fault and to make it harder I'm often drawn to the sanguine--my opposite. I think phlegmatics get s bad rap. I think they're witty, even tempered, consistent, and reliable.
All personalities have strengths and weaknesses. The key is to develop your strengths while minimizing weaknesses. Demons complicate things by exploiting our weaknesses. It’s like having a sparring partner. When God puts us in the ring with demons, He intends the pummeling He lets them give us to elevate us in holiness. Our love for God, abandonment to His Will, and the degree to which this drives us to accept (even embrace) whatever suffering He sends is a major determinant of the level of holiness we eventually attain, usually in subtle but very profound ways. One of the biggest reasons people get stuck at a lower level is an unwillingness to suffer. This is especially true in modern societies where a life of comfort and ease is the predominant ideal. Broken people are far more likely to seek God than people with a comfortable lifestyle. Accepting being broken, however, is only the beginning. There is an entire journey involved in moving through brokenness to wholeness and joy in Christ. These are insights I’ve gleaned from hours and hours spent listening to Fr. Ripperger.
Ave Maria Gratia pleins dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus, sancta Maria mater Dei Ora pro nobis peccatoribus nunc et in hora Mortis nostrae. Amen GOD love you @Fr. Ripperger
I remain eternally grateful to you father for the series of spiritual guidance. It has helped me a lot in my role as seminary formator in the formation of young people to the Catholic priesthood.
i used to be sanguine with a little bit of melancholic; then i went through a traumatizing experience a few years ago, but which led me to revert to Catholicism, and ever since ive been mostly melancholic with hints of sanguine
39:50 The pain of a joyous attitude (for Melancholics) If it helps, I’d also characterize this discomfort as an* aversion to fun* or *the inability to take a joke* -particularly amidst others. My understanding of this aversion is that joy sort of affirms the world as it is. But the melancholic is often caught up in their idea of what the world could/should be. (I say all this as a melancholic haha)
The phlegmatic temperament is hard to achieve sainthood because it is hard for them to find strong passions for anything even food. It is also really hard to get them to study for school if they don't care about doing well. I should know, I couldn't be bothered to do anything besides the bare minimum in school or work. One of my teachers even said something along the lines of "not motivated/doesn't try", but neither of my parents really paid attention to the note by the letter grade.
I see... I'm basically sanguine as a kid... But high school onwards taking on choleric temperament... Then during Pandemic had melancholic (contemplative) disposition. And now... I think I'm taking on some phlegmatic.... This spiritual journey is not easy.... 😭
Good morning Father, I did listening every morning of your teaching. Because I can feel it deeply of your faith and truth. I believe that you have a good wisdom, by your faith. Thank you so much and May the God bless you .🙏🌷
I am sanguine/choleric. I really struggle with being careful how I act around people. Because I am so friendly people think I am a flirt. For all those out there who are like me, don't worry! Pray and ask God for help! You can fix your problems
I am sanguine/phlegmatic and have experienced others mistaking my friendly nature for being flirtatious 😬 To add to this, these same people also perceive me as being naive for still choosing to interact or remain in contact with people who, to them, are seen as “flirting” with me 💀😅
Christ praying with joy to the Father (Luke 10:21) - sanguine, happiness Christ overturning tables in the temple (Matthew 21:12) - choleric, anger Christ weeping at Lazarus' grave (John 11:35) - melancholic, sadness Christ writing in sand (John 8:6) - phlegmatic, calmness
It’d be neat to see a list of different saints who predominantly fit into these dispositions. I’d imagine St. Peter is choleric and St. Francis of Assisi is sanguine
I found this talk fascinating, especially the part about temperaments having a physical component and that you can change your DNA through the way you behave. I have a very nerdy question. Suppose a husband and wife married young and immediately started having children. Throughout marriage and family life, this couple grew spiritually and diligently worked on eliminating vice and developing virtue. Suppose also that they continued to have children for as long as they could so she was having babies in her forties. In a case like this, could it be possible that the children birthed at the beginning would genetically inherit something closer to the *original* temperaments of the parent, whereas the children birthed much later would genetically inherit something closer to the more virtuous, acquired temperament of both parents?
I don’t know if it answers your question, but I remember listening to a book about the Duck Dynasty men: Phil Robertson was a certain type of person with three of his boys, and the change might have affected how the youngest Robertson boy grew up not knowing how his father was a raging alcoholic or whatever. I can’t remember the exact circumstances.
If you are looking for Ignatian retreat, have a look at Fr. Timothy Gallagher's information here on UA-cam, titled 'the discernment of spirits', meaning how to know if you are in desolation or consolation. The BEST!
I don't know if I should bring this up but these 4 temperaments remind me very much of the 4 elements in astrology: the sanguine being like air signs; the choleric being fire signs; the melancholic being water signs; and the flegmatic being lke earth signs... Astrology nowhere suggests that these dispositions can in any way be transformed: it just assumes that they're there forever and more or less determine your fate. Having said this, I'm not so sure one becomes a saint by 'working' on one's vices but rather by getting out of the way and allowing the Holy Spirit to do the job.
Through Christ, I tell you are in the clutches of demons and evil. Not only have you spent a serious amount of time studying Astrology, re-read very slowly your last sentence about vices. You are telling Christians to be passive about their vices. Are you serious? Galatians 5, 16-26 is very clear that self control is needed to restrain vices which requires active work on our part. I'll pray for you as it is clear that your soul and understanding of Christ has been corrupted.
@@alisterrebelo9013 The only 'active work' required of us is giving our consent to the work of the Holy Spirit: 'For it is God who works within you to will and to act.' (Philippians 2:13) I know all about good works but I'm not a Pelagian so I don't believe I am the one doing the work. Nor am I a Semi-pelagian, so I don't believe it is I, with the help of God. I am a Catholic, so I know that God is the primary agent of my sanctification and I am only secondary: my only job is to allow the God I receive in the Sacraments to act in me and through me - 'It is not I who live, but Christ in me.' (Galatians 2:20)
@@superapex2128 I'm not surprised you didn't respond to my claim of your dabbling in Astrology. Don't call yourself a Christian let alone Catholic, as you bring shame to the Lord our God. You know a few big words and think you know a lot. What about what I said sounds like Pelagianism? Pathethic attempt at a strawman, don't mislead the rest of us Catholics on your warped view of how to overcome sin. You seem to be one of those Catholics in name only who has no real intent to permanently rid oneself of sin and merely want use the sacraments instrumentally to cleanse yourself on a periodic basis. Have you managed to permanently stop any form of sin? I have, and I tell you it takes actual work on the part of the person to watch in my example, their words and language. The Holy Spirit inspires and acts through us but only if we are willing to actively participate in the effort. When Jesus exhorts us to pick up the cross and follow him, is this a passive act? I'll be offering tonight's rosary for your redemption.
Not everyone knows to ask for God's grace and to let the Holy Spirit work with them. It's also not always that we get a lot of grace to change us and be better people so each of us can still work on ourselves whenever we can.
@@lucystephanieproperties After receiving the Holy Ghost, we are not supposed to work at all... The Holy Ghost does not work 'with' us: He works THROUGH us - if we allow Him to. And even our consent is the work of the Holy Ghost who constantly nudges us in that direction. in the end, the only part we play in our sanctification is accepting the Gft of Grace. I know this may sound controversial today but this was the teaching of the Church up until the Renaissance. Amazing, isn't it?
If you are a serious, deep thinker which appears you are, then bimbo sanguines are a natural attraction. Maybe lend more time toward consideration/expanded scope, and look for the even tempered farmgirl (phlegmatic).
I'm a strong choleric, and my husband is a strong Phlegmatic... we balance each other perfectly. Now we have two children who, as far as I can tell so far, have decided to follow exactly in their parents shoes (the oldest is strongly choleric and the youngest strongly phlegmatic). They are the best of friends and balance each other out perfectly. The old adage, opposites attract, is very true in our family. Edit: ... to build a little further on my point. My husband has all the qualities that I hope to acheieve and visa versa. The nice thing about opposites, is one persons strength can be shared with another. The goal is to be equal in all parts. God Bless.
@@yellowroses2648 - Agree, I find myself easily bored with people too like myself. That’s why I married my opposite, but through the years we’ve become more alike.
So much of personality is formed by external, familial, environmental factors, and also by happy or traumatic events in a young person's/person's life . But, love your other videos !
I haven’t had any particular assessment, but I see a lot of melancholic in myself, but also some traits of sanguine. Strange combo… interested to learn more.
I found this so fascinating!!!! For most of my life I have been a combination of Choleric, Melancholic mostly Sanguine. Is the goal to achieve all 4 positive aspects of these traits?
What does it mean if all 4 seem to describe you? I'm not sure which i lean towards the most. I seem to fluctuate as well throughout the year and from different periods in my life (under 40 here). As i was listening to each temperament's description, each one seems to hit the nail on the head. I also seem to take on the dispositions of those i am around very easily. What does this mean?
It means you need to get closer to the Lord, be contrite and confess frequently and ask Him to cleanse you of any psychic/occult/New Age exposure/experience you have/had. Time to also ask Mama Mary's help and protection against demons. Perhaps you also need to pray the rosary daily.
I'm just confused - I have aspects of Sanguine and Melancholic; at home - I tend to be melancholic, but - when needed for work reasons - sanguine. Maybe - a major in Melancholic and a minor in Sanguine?
That's the beauty of it.... We are actually a composite of all of the 4. But one or two predominates at a certain time and the goal is to gain virtue so that all the positive aspects manifest and none of the negative aspects of each temperament
An interesting question that just occurred to me: What temperaments were the Holy Family? Specifically Jesus and Mary. Although I love St. Joseph and would be curious about his as well. Did they have a specific predominant temperament, or is the predominance of a specific temperament technically a flaw and a result of original sin, implying that they instead had an equal proportion and perfection of the strengths of each? Another way perhaps of rephrasing the question: As one approaches perfection, does one's distinctive temperament "evaporate" and become undistinguishable, or does it become even more pronounced?
I have a good/negative (depending on how one looks at it) of melancholic and colerich, but even some attitudes of the sanguine when these two major traits are not getting their way…
I would love to hear his take on a phlegmatic/ sanguine combination. Initially, years ago, I was told this combination was very rare and not good. It seems my husband and oldest son both have this. Combined with my choleric/melancholic temperament...its very hard!!
Pray the litany of humility. It really helps. It’s very hard at first. We only feel sorrow for what once brought us joy. Sorrow is in a sense compassion, for both self and others but humility helps us to accept it all. Humility exists at the base of all virtues and charity directs all the virtues. We only feel sorrow for what once brought us joy or what we thought might occur to. I hope this helps and God Bless
Zach, I'm a cradle Catholic and heavy melancholic like yourself. It contributed a significant part in my 16 year atheistic stint. I finally experienced the presence of Jesus multiple times 2 months ago when I fell ill and couldn't eat or drink for 3 weeks. I was in severe stomach and intestinal pain all the time, no sleep for more than an hour. To try and find peace, I turned to UA-cam to find Church hymns and found a 4 hour video of the rosary sung by the Gregorians. That allowed me the first proper sleep in at least a week and a half. The next day during the next pain episode, I felt the urge to get down on my knees and pray the 'Consecration of One’s Exterior Goods to the Blessed Virgin Mary' that I heard Fr. Rippberger once mention in a lecture. I figured, if I give up my health to the Her and the Lord, I'd have nothing to lose. But I did it with sincerity because by now faith was beginning to spring up in my heart. I felt the urge after to say the Credo, and I was an amazing rush of power, the pain was subsiding. I had another pain severe pain episode a week later and this time as I had just watched Fr. Dalton's interview on Pints With Aquinas on the Shroud of Turin, and was able to clearly visualise Christ on the cross and prayed out loud for God not to abandon me, and the pain subsided. I'm almost 100% better now, and I no longer feel depressed at all, not even slightly, I have a totally different outlook on life, zero pron, praying the rosary everyday and learning it in Latin. I too thought I'd never experience God, but in my 16 atheistic years, I never stopped searching for the Truth. A week or two before my sickness, I managed to convince myself that logically God must exist after a long long period of study and I prayed somewhat faithlessly to God, to reveal himself to me, because I so desperately wanted to Believe. I'm blessed that God decided I was ready for it and of course He was not wrong! I wish I could speak with you because there's so many details I've had to leave out as typing is such a pain. If you happen to see this, feel free to ask questions and I'll help.
If possible please increase the volume and clarity of the audio in this video. He speaks rapidly enough as it is. When I maximize the volume the background fuzzy noise is substantial. -Melancholic and somewhat choleric.
Read some of the speeches of well-known politicians like Winston Churchill or Abraham Lincoln. I would consider reading the New York Times as well because the temperament doesn’t react to things as much as the other ones. Food is a big concept for a phlegmatic though. I could fill up on a lot of things in a day, but if I don’t enrich my mind with the work of God’s plan, I feel bad. That might be the secondary temperament talking though, I can’t decide if it is choleric or melancholic though. The Internet is a virtual smorgasbord of food for thought, and we have to be very careful.
I laughed out loud when I read that, and I love your wine glass half-full logo. You should nickname yourself the Saint-maker! 😇 I’m the sanguine drifting into phlegmatic type, but you probably have that figured out already. I like to think my predominant faults are creating some saints too, but in my case that’s probably my optimism obscuring reality.
🤣 I completely understand. My husband is predominantly choleric and I'm melancholy so we are a fun mix😉 but we get along great - maybe cuz we both have sanguine traits that help us laugh at ourselves.
I think I'm sanguine because I like comfort pleasure and dislike pain immensely. I was a relatively spiritually disciplined sanguine though still think I might be, but the natural nature is there of course.
This channel has great content, but the weird stock Google search pictures and advertisements really discourage me from watching. Is there an alternate place to hear similar talks?
Does anyone else notice how the close caption can’t get the prayers right? Seems to do a fine job interpreting everything else, but just couldn’t bring itself to say the correct words in the Hail Mary......
If I could make a suggestion? Many of the pictures selected , we had to look away, the facial expressions are really disturbing. Thank you. Otherwise, we appreciate the work you are doing.
Harder for phlegmatic . So it could be better to stop struggling of becoming a saint. How can I achieve sanctity trying to be someone who I am not? Discouraging warning ⚠
Do not be discouraged. I'm a phlegmatic, so is my fiancé. We're both striving to be great Saints. It's not our own work or efforts we achieve such a goal and desire. It's a God-given desire in our hearts and we must be receptive to God's grace and promptings. Allow Him to work on us, perfect us. We must have that burning desire to be a Saint and cooperate with God's work
So, given that temperament is actually a bodily disposition, have there been scientific studies done on temperament, and can it be quantified or predicted through the use of technology?
@father ripperger, I humbly ask a question with your description of depression. If one's source of depression seems to come from a lack of feeling worthy is that still coming from an egotistical perspective?
Look into if it it is false humility... True humility leads to healthy detachment and not depression. Also we must be careful since the devil can incite those depressive episodes too.
No- it's not coming from an egotistical perspective - it may come from trauma, abuse, or dysfunction from your family of origin. It was never helpful to me to hear that my scrupulosity growing up was pride because it just drove me deeper into anxiety because I just couldn't get away from it- I wanted so bad for God to like me and to be a good person- I felt like no matter what I did I was always going to be bad. Turns out the way my family was run, I tried to fix and please everybody so that I would stop being yelled at, people would stop fighting, be ok, etc. That's how I thought God was without realizing it because that's all I had ever known. God loves you and wants you. He first loved us - no questions asked. You can't get away from his love. You are not bad- he made you good and wants you. You can enjoy him and yourself and the life he's made for you because he loves you. He wants you with him forever.
@@rosepistilli223Come as you are, and humbly ask thy Lord our God and Father to change us by His will and wisdom alone. That His voice be the only ones we hear, and that He teaches us His ways personally, show me how to think, speak, act and be in every moment of my life, always that this and become aware of His presence in us. Read His Scriptures, so you become acquainted with His will and His voice. It becomes so much easier to be guided by His voice when you know what His will is and His voice.. also, stay in prayer, always. Every time you feel or think to pray, just do it. Fast and pray, kneel when you pray, go into your prayer closet to pray alone with Him. This is important, and to discern His voice, pray out loud, pray the Psalms. Pray the things that are written in Scriptures until you've gained a grasp on what to pray by what the Holy Spirit wants you to pray. Fasting regularly (example, from 12p.m. to 4p.m. every Monday, Wed and Friday) and dedicate prayer the entire time, only drinking natural water, will correct the lower faculties (the flesh) and His voice becomes louder. This is a sacrifice, for God's sake. Every thought you think, let it be for Gods sake and with these desires, He will actually do this work in you and change your will to desire these things naturally. Go through the motions and you will become a new creation in Christ. God bless ❤
Only pertaining to the choices you're inclined to make. Melancholics often are very well kept (hair, etc), sanguines often wear more color or are more trendy, phlegmatics might dress more comfy- etc. But of course your secondary temperament effects the choices you make as well. If you're asking if sanguines are always overweight or if cholerics always look fierce I would say no.
@espouse de SACRECOEUR He Absolutely is not a sanguine, Absolutely not!! He's way too serious for that, and much too sincere, and he's not chatty. Have you ever seen him on interviews? When he smiles he truly is a dear.
I would guess predominantly Choleric, with a bit of either Phlegmatic (likely) or Melancholic. He's much too serious & intelligent to be a Sanguine. He also doesn't seem the type to mull things over like a Melancholic, though he's detailed and thoughtful like one. Phlegmatics get a bad rep, but they're sincere, level-headed and reliable people, which I think describes fr pretty well.
Regarding Father's comment that feeding a child a magnitude of sugars and flour will rapidly induce ADD (now denominated 'ADHD'), I opine that this is not well thought out. ADHD is with reason speculated or known to be genetic. It is probably rather that the environmental circumstance of consuming a magnitude of sugar and flour is an effect, not cause, of ADHD, because those with the disorder crave the neurological stimulation that is absent from their systems by a defect of nature; i. e. their bodies do not produce the natural level of stimulation and therefore crave a substitute, which at least sugar is, albeit a poor one. If you have a child who CONSTANTLY and INVARIABLY craves sugary foods and exhibits inattention, hyperactivity, or both, have him tested for ADHD. The hyperactivity is either in the mind, evidenced by constantly attending to diverse, 'off topic' thoughts; the body, evidenced by figeting, constant hyperactivity, or bursts of hyperactivity; or both hyperactivity mentally and bodily. The body is reacting this way in ADHD patients because it is trying to self-correct deficient neurological stimulation, which it can not. That is why stimulants are prescribed for ADHD patients. I also opine that ADHD and other psychological disorders mask or distort personal temperaments, e. g., for autistics, identification of their temperaments is extremely difficult, which results in difficulty fully relating to them.
Yep, ADHD is neurological and the worst thing about it is having the want and the will to do something, while being blocked from acting because your own body is against you. I have learned how to overcome that, but the strain and pain of warring with yourself in that way are great.
Took an online test and it said I was 100% phlegmatic. I'm not sure that's true. I get pretty passionate about things. Although people always comment that I'm very zen and calm.
Quizzes can ask specific questions to which on that specific question you lean more towards something else. So if someone asks questions mostly geared toward a specific temperment than youll most likely get that temperment or an oppposite. Quizzes are very flawed. Just think on which one(s) you are. I have many things from every temperament.
@@drangeldeguzman68 Because he is not too phlegmatic. As shakespare described a very phlegmatic person - with much phleg fluid within him: he was very lazy and very much into food day in and out.
When you have too much fluid (temperment) you get the positive aspects. However if you have a huge amount of the fluid (temperment) you get the negative aspects.
Catholic Mingle is far superior because you’re not introducing the different religious beliefs into a potential marriage with all the baggage that brings. They have the same temperament test with 100 questions to really dig into the subject. All of us are a mix of each of the four types and it gives you a chart listing the percentages of each group you have and an accompanying analysis of your strengths and weaknesses. I found mine very enlightening and it opened my eyes to the spiritual dangers to be watchful for. On a side note, I met my wife on Catholic Mingle. I was looking for a believing Catholic not just a cultural Catholic and CM also lists questions about Church teachings and asks which one you believe. Of course any teaching you don’t agree with means you don’t believe the Church to be infallible or authoritative.
I think categories are not that helpful. My takeaway is this: I have much to be thankful for because the temperament I was born with was definitely altered by my parents, grandparents, and life, itself. We are constantly growing and changing by God’s Grace and our response. I learned nothing new, here, partly because I know myself quite well and how life’s struggles and family support guided me all my life. Of course, my faith has been shaped by God and family not by a study into personalities. Just my opinion.
To each his own. These categories are a tool.and helpful for some to advance in virtue. If it doesn't help you or not useful for you, good also you found your way into increasing your holiness. These temperaments as categories are graces... Good you learned nothing new here... Because it's proper that you don't. If it's not for you doesn't mean it's not useful for others... And your takeaway doesn't make sense. If it's not helpful for you then why bother leaving a comment? It just means you're not the intended recipient of this knowledge.
Patricia, have you considered that other people than yourself might benefit from this? As someone who is heavily melancholic, this teaching helps me watch out for the behaviours that lead to depression (something I've struggled with) and what behaviours that I can develop in the other domains that will balance me out. @@bethoumyvision1346 LOL! You are not too far off! I've actually wrestled with depression from time to time most of my life. ;)
Alec Foster me too, friend. I was 75% melancholic and 25% phlegmatic
I agree. Is that a choleric trait?
You're correct
Ripperger.
Being drawn to the opposite isn't necessarily a bad thing. 😉
Ave Maria Gratia pleins dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus, sancta Maria mater Dei Ora pro nobis peccatoribus nunc et in hora Mortis nostrae. Amen

I remain eternally grateful to you father for the series of spiritual guidance. It has helped me a lot in my role as seminary formator in the formation of young people to the Catholic priesthood.
This was immensely helpful!!!! I have a plan. Thanks Father!
What's your plan?

42:46 Phlegmatic
Awesome lecture! Very revealing and helpful. May God bless you Fr. Ripperger.
i used to be sanguine with a little bit of melancholic; then i went through a traumatizing experience a few years ago, but which led me to revert to Catholicism, and ever since ive been mostly melancholic with hints of sanguine
I can relate to this.....feels like I underwent a change in temperament in a series of tragedies
Mostly positive traits of the melancholic I hope 😊
good point!
trauma changes you
39:50 The pain of a joyous attitude (for Melancholics)
If it helps, I’d also characterize this discomfort as an* aversion to fun* or *the inability to take a joke* -particularly amidst others.
Thank you so much and May the God bless you .🙏🌷
Melancholic at 31:10
God bless you for making this video. Very informative
Excellent info here! And a very overlooked subject/topic indeed among the church, and people in general.
Thanks be to God, that found you.
I read that St. Ignatius Loyola was choleric, but through having to endure suffering due to a leg injury, he overcame his temper and grew in virtue.
I am sanguine/choleric. I really struggle with being careful how I act around people. Because I am so friendly people think I am a flirt. For all those out there who are like me, don't worry! Pray and ask God for help! You can fix your problems
I can so relate.
@@ols7888 thank you
I am sanguine/phlegmatic and have experienced others mistaking my friendly nature for being flirtatious 😬 To add to this, these same people also perceive me as being naive for still choosing to interact or remain in contact with people who, to them, are seen as “flirting” with me 💀😅
That was utterly fascinating
Christ praying with joy to the Father (Luke 10:21) - sanguine, happiness
Christ overturning tables in the temple (Matthew 21:12) - choleric, anger
Christ weeping at Lazarus' grave (John 11:35) - melancholic, sadness
Christ writing in sand (John 8:6) - phlegmatic, calmness
It’d be neat to see a list of different saints who predominantly fit into these dispositions. I’d imagine St. Peter is choleric and St. Francis of Assisi is sanguine
St Peter must be a mix of choleric sanguine perhaps... Isn't he always jumpy?
He is sanguine choleric, Peter and st Francis was choleric
Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith.
Very helpful.
Very interesting question. I would be interested to hear the answer on that one as well.

Not sure what you mean by "change" DNA😂
Maybe epigenetically (which genes are expressed) but you can't change DNA like that

Somewhere in between sanguine and melancholic.
somwere between melancholic and colleric
Wonderful content/presentation. Would rather look at the chart of dispositions than the pictures that often don’t coincide with what Father is saying.
6:35 Sanguine
How does this compare with Myers-Briggs?
@@alisterrebelo9013 The only 'active work' required of us is giving our consent to the work of the Holy Spirit: 'For it is God who works within you to will and to act.' (Philippians 2:13)
I know all about good works but I'm not a Pelagian so I don't believe I am the one doing the work.
Ty so very much Fr
Would be nice to see if he has a slideshow too. Oh well this is great learning for everyone! Thanks Fr. Ripperger. ❤
I'm choleric with a huge dose of melancholy. Always attracted to sanguine girls, never to phlegamatic. But my best friend is phlegmatic.
Im choleric and sanguine and phlegmatic can be very witty and funny

He was a great quantum individual!!
Well, that first section nails it for me! 😳
I wish I could ask questions...
Father mentioned early on that Jesus had all 4 without any bias in one area. No mention of Mary was made.
@@alisterrebelo9013 Yeah, I know. Like I said, I think it would be an interesting topic to cover.
I like to imagine St. Joseph would be more Phlegmatic. I don't have any evidence at all but something about him just gives me those vibes.
@@mathildearestxoxo That's probably a pretty good hunch, actually.

Christianity as a melancholic is torture at times; I never see the love of God, but mostly the judgment of God, which hurts my image of Him.

Life can beat you up into melancholic.
If possible please increase the volume and clarity of the audio in this video. He speaks rapidly enough as it is. When I maximize the volume the background fuzzy noise is substantial. -Melancholic and somewhat choleric.

I am totally sanguine. Does the description of sanguine seem to be what modern people label as ADHD?
So, how would one who is fully phlegmatic go about developing zeal?
Start doing things that are arduous to you I would imagine
Read some of the speeches of well-known politicians like Winston Churchill or Abraham Lincoln. I would consider reading the New York Times as well because the temperament doesn’t react to things as much as the other ones. Food is a big concept for a phlegmatic though. I could fill up on a lot of things in a day, but if I don’t enrich my mind with the work of God’s plan, I feel bad. That might be the secondary temperament talking though, I can’t decide if it is choleric or melancholic though. The Internet is a virtual smorgasbord of food for thought, and we have to be very careful.
Will.
Associate with people who are virtuous and zealous choleric perhaps?
Sanguine for sure. Funny, we are the ones quicker for sainthood but also the least likely. Makes sense.
I’m a predominant choleric with secondary melancholic temperament. I’m helping my family become Saints ☺️
I laughed out loud when I read that, and I love your wine glass half-full logo. You should nickname yourself the Saint-maker! 😇
I’m the sanguine drifting into phlegmatic type, but you probably have that figured out already. I like to think my predominant faults are creating some saints too, but in my case that’s probably my optimism obscuring reality.
@@annap7678 😄 My husband is Sanguine, so you can imagine we have some lively”discussions”. We balance each other. Or at least we try to ☺️

this is part 6 of a series, where can I find the first 5 videos :)
We must have that burning desire to be a Saint and cooperate with God's work
If we have to act contrary to our dispositions, doesnt that just make us fake?

@father ripperger, I humbly ask a question with your description of depression.
If one's source of depression seems to come from a lack of feeling worthy is that still coming from an egotistical perspective?
Shame and pride are /both/ disorders of humility. :D
God bless ❤
Melancholic here. 😢 Maybe a little phlegmatic. 🙂 Is there any correlation of the physical appearance of the body to the temperaments? Just wondering.
Any chance a phlegmatic can become a sanguine? Realistically they would have to change their entire personality, is thst even doable?
Anyone know if Father wrote a book on this?

You must have the positive side of the temperaments that's why

On a side note, I met my wife on Catholic Mingle. Of course any teaching you don’t agree with means you don’t believe the Church to be infallible or authoritative.
Did the online dating work out for you?
RIGHT ON ... TOO MANY WORLDY CAUSALITIES, EVEN MAJOR TRAUMAS CREATE /ALTER PERSONALITY ...
Patricia, have you considered that other people than yourself might benefit from this? As someone who is heavily melancholic, this teaching helps me watch out for the behaviours that lead to depression (something I've struggled with) and what behaviours that I can develop in the other domains that will balance me out. I'll pray that your spiritual journey continues and you reach the destination you seek.
@@alisterrebelo9013 you are right, I was speaking about myself and I apologize for my shortsightedness. I know what you meant about yourself and I agree. Sometimes, I am too quick to assert myself and then regret it later on. I hope the Good Lord takes care of you in all your needs.🙏🏻
Thank you for your prayers, and I will pray for you, also.
