  • The First Crusade (1096-1099) was the first of a series of religious wars, or Crusades, initiated, supported and at times directed by the Latin Church in the middle ages. The objective was the recovery of the Holy Land from the Caliphates. While Jerusalem had been under Caliphate rule for hundreds of years, by the 11th century the Seljuk takeover of the region threatened local Eastern Orthodox populations, Latin pilgrimages from the West, and the Eastern Roman Empire itself. The earliest initiative for the First Crusade began in 1095 when Eastern Roman emperor Alexius I Comnenus requested military support from the Council of Piacenza in the empire's conflict with the Seljuk-led Turks. This was followed later in the year by the Council of Clermont, during which exiled Pope Urban II supported the Eastern Roman request for military assistance and also urged faithful Latins to undertake an armed pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

One staggering mistake, Iberia wasn’t under Umayyads at that time. It was under the Berber Almoravids.

Well, that Bible verse doesn't mean you have to put cross on your clothing and do a crusade. It means in order to become follower of Christ, you must be prepared to face the challenges and trials of being a follower of Christ, that's what the cross mean in that verse.

What is the name of that Latin Mass choir that was sung during the part where Urban was in Clermont? It sounds so powerful and would have been terrifying to enemies of Christianity during that time, especially if sung by warriors like Templars.

The First Crusade was truly a match between so uneven numbers and the Crusaders still prevailed. The Fatimid troops numbered over 15,000, along with elite regiments of African tribal warriors from Sudan and Uganda. The Crusaders only had 2,000 knights and men at arms by the time they reached Jerusalem. Utterly inconceivable. What an epic campaign.

The video was amazingly informative but you missed out some highlights like. The Crusaders after capturing the town of *Ma'aara* mercilessly *ATE* the inhabitants 🤢 and after captiring *Jerusalem* they killed so many civillians including men, women, children, old and pregnant women. according to the Muslims and the Crusaders the massacre was so intense that the streets were *filled with blood upto knees of the horses* 😢.
