This guitar was pretty inspiring to play, pun intended! Let me know what you think of these if you've had a chance to try one out. I have had my Explorer for about six months now and I play it daily. I love the Burstbuckers too. I have a Fender adjustable stand that works well for any odd-shaped guitar. I hang all my guitars so I rarely need a stand, the Explorer does hang a little crooked too and I often plink a string taking it down.
I owned two models, the Bonamassa ES-335 and the Adam Jones Les Paul Custom. They are fantastic guitars in looks, feel and sound but I think the thick poly finish, use of indian laurel and some sharper fret ends make them still feel like $600 Epiphones in many ways. On it’s own that’s okay but at $1300-1500 one can buy a Gibson Les Paul tribute with nitro finish, an ESP with stainless steel frets and many made in Japan copies which are on another level of quality. Most of all these Epiphones don’t seem to hold their value well and many who buy them new may lose a lot of money if they ever want to resell. Just my 2 cents as an owner. I sold the Bonamassa (sold for $700 despite being in mint condition) but kept the Adam Jones. I do like these guitars a lot but I think $900-1100 would be a more appropriate price point.
@@intheblues You helped me to purchase my first Harley Benton. Unfortunately my jack on it broke, but I am going to get it taken somewhere. Had it since January.
Good to see a fellow lefty playing what was my grail guitar and only because I bought it as soon as I saw it was available in left handed and it was worth every penny…. Congrats on getting your hands on one only because it seems like Epiphone is getting scarce especially in left handed and it’s not because of the fact they don’t make them it just seems like left handed guitars are on average more scarce than right handed but even on line it seems like the owners are less willing to part with them…. Which is a good thing I guess lol
While the price will turn folks away, the tones, visual, and build quality seems to justify the cost. I never understood why people get so upset about the price of guitars (the only exception is Australia, you guys have a legitimate complaint). With the amount of quality options, there is a guitar for most budgets. If you have champagne tastes and a beer budget, find a shop that has that guitar and see if they can work with you. Great video Shane, you look like an Explorer kind of guy!!!!!😆😆😆😎😎😎😎🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Shane I’m a lefty and have both. Bought the Explorer first and was so impressed I had to get the V from the same run. Wow both are amazing guitars, best Epiphones I’ve ever played. You can get great deals on these as I reckon they were a little over priced Nice review dude
Got an EPI 1978 Korina Reissue. Absolutely best and most rock solid axe I’ve had. Used and abused for well over 10+ years and never has had a setup 🙏🙏😍😍😊
Looks and sounds exactly like the Big G version. You did it great justice Shane. I want one badly, but too many other things are more important right now. Great review my friend, thanks to you and a huge shout out to Sky Music in Australia for being such awesome people.
This is a bucket list guitar for me. Especially because of Edge (U2). Unfortunately when they came out with the $2700-$3300 AUD tag, I had to retreat. Might be time to flip a few.
Could never afford the Gibson but I got this one. Fantastic guitar, the build is excellent and no problems. I love the finish, big neck which I like lovely to play. I had a spare set of custombuckers which I have put in so a bit closer to the Gibson custom shop without the price.
I work in a guitar store - bought the Explorer after 5 seconds of testing. An incredibly good guitar, even for the money. Epiphone does very smart things, the high priced models are insanely good deals. Our sales figures show that. Gibson has its biggest competitor in the same house.
They look great, i love the satin type finish. I really wanted one and hunted down the only one within 50 miles. It completely choked out when trying to bend notes on frets 5-8, and the neck dive was crazy. Completely cured my gas for one, but i would still get one if i find a good one someday.
I had a Custom Shop Firebird but sold it. I tried the new “Inspired “ by Gibson Epiphone and I couldn’t believe it. It plays exactly like the Custom Shop. I have a regular Firebird by Gibson and I never liked it because the neck was too thin. The Custom Shop Bird had a thick chunky neck that was so comfortable to play. The Epiphone has that exact neck. It plays and sounds amazing - just like the Custom Shop. It think the only difference is the Custom Shop has a Nitro finish and the Epiphone is Polyurethane. I haven’t tried this particular model of Explorer, but it’s probably the same quality as the Firebird.
I own one . . . . and the case is a huge case . . . The guitar came to me perfect , shipped to me perfect , and it sounds ridiculously good . . as you obviously know PLUS it weighs a couple ounces more than my SG '61
Sounds great but IMO the tone control needs a decent "tapered" pot and the right capacitor. Great Explorer at the price. Looking forward to trying this out.
I picked up the Firebird I because I was curious about both the quality and I’ve never owned a Firebird. I swore I’d never own another Epi yet here we are. They’ve all got the USA pickups and electronics. I got it at the Gibson Garage, they were all blown away as well.
I have the IBG Firebird that retails for $649 USD. It's fantastic. CTS pots and the Epi FB720 alnico pups sound great. Better than the hot ceramic pups in my 2013 Gibson Firebird.

They can say “inspired by” as much as they want, but I have yet to play an Epiphone I enjoyed playing, or that’s anything like a Gibson. They might sound better with a set of Dirty Fingers pickups…
I bought a Ghost Horse, and I can hear this guitar has the same weird pingyness. I think the fretwire is made of something weird or they don't glue the frets or something. The spikyness is really annoying tbh.
Did you mean probuckers? From my limited understanding, Epi's call theirs probuckers but they're their equivalent of Gibson's burstbuckers. I have the Epi firebird and love its probuckers - and the rest of the guitar.
These higher-end "Inspired by Gibson" models sometimes use Gibson pickups. This Epi 1958 Korina Explorer has a Burstbucker 2 in the neck and a Burstbucker 3 in the bridge.

Hercules guitar stands should handle the explorer no problem even if you gotta get the bass model
I have a 98 model Korean made one for 23 years and it's going no where 😂
They've had these for literally years in one of my local music stores. I don't think people are keen to pay $3k for this.
It's not a good deal.
It's the first time I've seen a lefty anywhere
@@intheblues I genuinely keep forgetting you are a lefty. I play drums left handed and am very used to interpreting the mirror image as normal.
I bought a Ghost Horse, and I can hear this guitar has the same weird pingyness. I think the fretwire is made of something weird or they don't glue the frets or something. The spikyness is really annoying tbh.
Laurel board kills it😢
The problem for me is the laurel fretboard. Some of them look ok, but a lot of them look awful.
Where? This is important. :-)
Be hard to play classical style setting down with that input jack.
Good catch, I didn't think of that. This is a much easier guitar to play seated over my Flying V though. :)
Dude, BUY IT. It's a lefty. It sounds great and has "quality" written all over it. You'll probably regret it later if you pass it up.
All these so called not sponsored videos get old
Really?
Best unboxing I have ever had lol
What kills this one for me is the butt ugly pickguard on a beautiful piece of wood. 2 back cavities and be done. Is it just me?😅
That Kemper does not sound good. You always had great tones with tube amps.
How impressed with the price are you though 😅
Sounds good…It just looks like a piece of a door.
