Since you're poised to descend into the VoicePlay rabbithole, you should probably know that their lineup has changed a few times since they came to UA-cam. It's probably one of the most difficult things to adapt to, as a new VoicePlay fan. Geoff (who as you've seen, has a 5 octave range, so can sing pretty much whatever he wants), Layne (the vocal percussionist) and Eli (the bald tenor- he sang Olaf's song here) - and his name rhymes with 'jelly', as it's short for Eliezer- are consistent throughout all of VoicePlay's videos, as the first two fellows have been singing in a group together since 1997, and Eli has been with them for over 10 years now. The bearded gentleman with the unexpected laser-like high tenor voice is Earl Elkins Jr., and he's another one who has been around since the beginning, but who sadly left the group in 2020 for personal reasons. In their earliest videos you'll find Tony Wakim singing baritone, although he left some time back to pursue video production. Put a pin in that- we'll come back. After Tony left the group, J. None- the black baritone with a voice like butter- joined, and he stayed until 2020 or '21 (I forget) when he departed to sing with the US Navy. He still comes back to feature when he's on leave. But shortly after he left, Cesar De La Rosa joined, and I don't think you've seen him just yet. He's a ball of sunshine with a sprinkling of sass, and a breathy baritenor that is so good at conveying emotion of all sorts. And whenever VoicePlay has been short a member (or two) they use featured artists to round out their number- generally other vocalists they know around Orlando, or through TikTok, or who knows how. One artist reached out to them for a collab (and managed to film the video from South Korea). But speaking of videos, remember how Tony left the group for video production? Well, he and Layne opened a video production studio together- Pattycake Productions- and now that's where a lot of VoicePlay's videos (and ones for Geoff's solo channel) are shot. They do everything themselves, from the costumes to the set and lighting, the directing, filming, editing, not to mention the vocal arrangements, recording, and basic mix. Final mix is always done by Ed Boyer (he does this for all the big a cappella groups), and anything more than basic makeup is subbed out (generally Rick Underwood, who's damn good at what he does), as is most steadycam work. But that's about it. Sorry this ended up a bit longer than I'd anticipated, but I hope it helps out a bit. Looking forward to watching your journey!
Adriana has also sung with them in “We’re Good” and “Good for You,” (I love them both) as well as the Grinch. There may be more. I keep hoping she’ll release some solo stuff. If you liked this medley, check out “The Little Mermaid Medley” with Rachel Potter. She’s also done other collabs with them. There are also collabs with Ashley Diane, who is also fabulous. My favorite with her is “If I Were a Rich Man/Girl.” But “Running Up that Hill” and “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” are also fire. VP is big on medleys, and they KILL on “Queen in 5 Minutes.” When you get back to Home Free, they have some great medleys, too (“Sea Shanty Medley,” “Country Fried Pop Medley,” and the not-to-be-missed hilarious “Butts Medley”).
The Voiceplay lineup has changed multiple times over the years. I think Geoff, Layne (sound effects/beatboxing), and Eli (pronounced "ell-ee", tenor with a goatee and hat) are in all the videos. Earl and Jay None (in this video) are in a lot of the more popular ones and Cesar is in the newer ones. There were different singers in The Sing Off and a multitude of fantastic guest singers through the years. I do suggest watching the fundraiser song they did during the pandemic, "Just Sing", and make sure you have the captions turned on, because they tell you who's who in the captions. There are a few faces you might recognize from elsewhere in there too since one of their former members is a fairly successful actor and they have other friends in the a capella world. Yes, Geoff has an incredible range. Because recording allows you to do multiple tracks, I think he recorded both the bass line and his higher part in this video even though the video only showed him singing the higher part.
Yeah, this VoicePlay medley is the only reason I even know Frozen had a sequel. I haven't even seen the original. When I was younger I used to move in social circles wherein a lot of people watched Disney movies, but over the years my social demographic has just shifted away from that. First I graduated from college, then some of my younger sisters' friends who were into Disney in a big way went away to college and/or got married and don't live around here any more, and then eventually my sister Sarah got married and moved to Florida (and now she's in Fort Wayne), and so by the time Frozen came out, there was really nobody left in my day-to-day life who watches Disney movies; and I don't care enough about movies to watch them on my own. So I've never seen it. But I do follow VoicePlay. Closely.
U need to check out Geoff's solo cover of i see fire there u will see the full range of geoff, and check out voiceplay s covers of songs like in the air tonight, valhalla calling etc they are awsome😊
You might like hearing Geoff Castellucci, the bass, sing the Beatle song Blackbird in 5 vocal parts in one of his solo projects. He plays piano for the cover.
Watching your face as you listened and watched was so much fun. I have those same feelings. The high soprano parts were sung by another collaborator, Elizabeth Garrozzo. She has done several pieces with them but only on camera during In the Hall of the Mountain King. I highly recommend that you watch their version of Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3. You will see Eli in a totally different light.
There is an unseen seventh singer.... Elizabeth Garozzo, who is the super high soprano. To really see (up to 2020) wh they've worked with, i suggest watching "Just Sing" and make sure the captions are on so you can see who is who, and what they collabed on. And yes, that was Geoff singing 😊
I always liked this song because voice play put out a contest and when they went through the entries this young lady Adriana won and she was celebrating her birthday and got the call from voice play, letting her know she had won. What a voice she has and has since sung in at least one more with them and maybe more! Each a cappella group has their own sound and are all special in their own ways! Voctave is another that are very good. They even did Mary did you know with the writer of the song Mark Lowry. Very special version! Thanks! Low bass Kenneth
Adriana's parents are friends of the band. Her mom has sung with one or more of the guys, and her dad, for sure, deejayed some personal events for the guys (weddings, etc.).
Google her name, VoicePlay and the word birthday: you should get at least 2 videos.... One, the video VP filmed and sent her wishing her 15th happy birthday, explaining who they were, and inviting her to sing with them - and the other, Adriana on her birthday, at home, totally surprised and listening to the video (don't miss her using her dog's paw to wipe her tears). What they told her was that they'd been following her on social media (which they had, since Geoff is a friend of her parents). There's a third video, a behind the scenes of Frozen being filmed, by her mother who was with her as her chaperone. All three are really fun because of Adriana's excitement, and VP's awkwardness.
If you enjoy Disney VoicePlay and Voctave are definitely specialists!! VoicePlay does a bunch of Disney medleys and song. While I love 'em all, "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Encanto is probably my favorite. It's an amazing vocal spectacle! Minor spoiler alert (very minor), there is a section where they are all singing different parts/words simultaneously... it's incredible! Great reaction to this one! I think you're really enjoying the a cappella rabbit hole!! I think I speak for MANY of us who LOVE seeing you dive deep into our favorites!
I compared VP’s version to the original, and it was better by far - in particular the section where everyone is singing something different. In the original, that section is a total mess, but with VP, it’s confusing ear-candy!
@@markbelcher2972 I am SO happy you agree with me, Mark! Seriously! Not many reactors call that out. Some do, like Elizabeth, but not many really seem to appreciate how hard that is!
There is a 7th voice not shown in this the background higher voice, Elizabeth Garozzo who appeared in their Hall of The Mountain King video. Really enjoying your foray into Voiceplay in particular and a Capella in general. They have other Disney Movie Medleys "Moana" and "The Little Mermaid" many of the VP members and guests are veteran Disney and Universal park performers as well as character voice actors.
IF I remember correctly, this has been the first time they featured Adriana Arellano... And it was their "present" for her FIFTEENTH Birthday. Yep, she was 15 yo at the time 🙂. Unless I'm mistaken 😅. She then appeared in some other videos of theirs... "You're a mean one mr Grinch", "Good for you", the just released "Jingle Bells Rock", and more. She has an incredible voice. 🙂 Just subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff (his "solo" channel is another beautiful rabbit hole). BTW... The lineup in this video. Left to right, front row: Layne stein, beatboxer and baritone (and much more); Adriana Arellano, guest artist; Geoff Castellucci, Bass with a stunning 5 octaves range. Back row, again left to right: Eli (rhymes with "jelly") Jacobson, tenor and Rock God of Asgard (watch their rendition of "Valhalla calling" and you'll see/hear what I mean), Earl Elkins Jr, high tenor, left in 2019 or 2020 (can't remember now) for undisclosed personal reasons; J None, baritone, left in 2021 to serve in the Navy, but is still part of the family and records with the guys when on leave. 🙂 See you next time!
Geoff has a 5+ Octave range...he can sing Tenor, Alto, Lead, Baritone, and bottle breaking sub-harmonic Bass. He is a vocal phenom. Ariana was a young teen here...she has been on a few of their videos. Two of these members are no longer with Voiceplay, but they check in once in awhile to do another video....
Yes, that's 'him' singing that! Geoff pretty much does whatever he wants vocally.
Yes, he does!
A five octave range allows him to do that.
If you were to ask Geoff what his range is, the answer is 'yes'
VoicePlay is the absolute best!!! ❤

Thank you for their context! That helps!
The Play is as important as the Voice part in the name.Yes that's Groff, he has a beautiful voice across five octaves.

That is a gift!
Geoff, the bass, used to work at a Disney park in musical shows.
Oh?
He worked more at Universal than Disney.
I absolutely do love watching them as much as listening to them!! Great reaction! ❤
You need voice play cover under the sea one of there best
Yes, beyond beautiful ❤️🔥
Some fantastic medleys by Voiceplay: Moana, Little Mermaid, and Wicked
Another great one ma"am! You may want to listen to Geoff cover "16 Tons" by none other than Tennessee Ernie Ford!!!
Absolutely, I do!! I love the Tennessee Ernie Ford Version
@@redheadedneighbor You will absolutely LOVE the Geoff, Geoff, Geoff, and Geoff version!! ua-cam.com/video/fzlT80jQ3lo/v-deo.html
Well time for the Little Mermaid Medley now....
Geoff has a 5+ Octave range...he can sing Tenor, Alto, Lead, Baritone, and bottle breaking sub-harmonic Bass. He is a vocal phenom. Ariana was a young teen here...she has been on a few of their videos. Two of these members are no longer with Voiceplay, but they check in once in awhile to do another video....
he can sing bass and baritone. he can't sing tenor or alto. Lead isn't a range
even Dimash can only sing tenor alto and soprano
Red, Mr. Castellucci has a vocal range of more than 5 octaves. FACT!
I wouldn't know any songs from Frozen or Frozen 2. They're very talented though, no doubt about that.
Frozen I know.. lol very well
You get a little taste of Eli's voicework capabilities here. He does a lot of character voices in Voiceplay's various videos.
That is so cool!!!
Layne I mean lol
Maybe the carrot king 😂
Lol
