- One of my most popular videos is about "web notes" ( • Web Notes: Dollar Bill... ), an interesting piece of U.S. banknote history. I thought I'd do a follow up video on another rare and interesting dollar bill: the Barr Note. In this video I will tell you what a Barr note is, how to identify it, and what it's worth. Hope you enjoy! -- Learn more here: thesilverpicker.com/barr-note...

So as a Bartender, you found the Joseph Barr Legal Tender. That makes you the Barr Tender Bartender.
This literally might be the best comment I've ever gotten lol
When I was a paper boy in the mid 80's, I had a customer who said she was looking for those bills. I sold her dozens of the Barr notes at face value. Sigh.
Gothmolg ..... Don't feel bad I got talked out of a silver Morgan dollar? I sold it for a lousy $2. I still get mad at myself! I know the person but I am sure it's worth lots of money 💰 now no way am I going to get it back! Just have to learn from our stupid mistakes! 😥 😠 😢😕😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😎😎
This comment is fake. Why would you sell a 1 dollar bill for 1 dollar? Even if you thought that they were only worth face value, it would be a pointless trade. Also, when a kid heres that something they have is cool, they aren't going to trade it for a less cool version.
That's too bad, but at least you made someone happy!
@@chachcadi271 You were obviously never a paper boy. It was all about making your customers happy and getting tips. For the second time time today, I feel old.
Feels bad man...
It's hard enough to find 60's bills anyway, much less a Barr note. Not in 2019.. Searching is still fun though, good luck people
verbose0 I actually just found a barr note
No joke
It is hard to find, but not impossible!
I get $100 straps from the bank all the time to search through them for rare notes and about 4 months ago I found a bar note and I just I could not believe it because the bill was such good shape it didn't even have any creases in it it was immaculate so they are out there I know from personal experience that they are
GREG L how much is that worth?
Wow! I've watched four of your videos today and I've learned an incredible amount of interesting knowledge!
The thing about Barr notes is, when they came out people were aware that this was an anomaly. Likely to be the shortest tenure for a Treasury Secretary ever. Therefore, tons of people kept the ones they came across at the time. That has kept them from being worth more. I too pulled them out initially because they were from the early 60's. The signature stuck out to me because it looked sloppy and big and I was pretty sure I hadn't seen that name before. It wasn't until later that I learned why these were special. Love the channel!
Hey I have need help to exchange you know out for the chanel
Thank-you Silver Picker for this informative video.
Glad you liked it!
😊 great educational videos, thanks 👍
This is actually kind of fun! I never knew there were so many varying facts about american monies. Thank you for your videos and for taking the time to instruct us.
Really glad you're enjoying it. Let me know what type of bill you want to me to make a video about next!
I have always wondered if there are any two dollar bills that are rare or at least worth more than face value. Thank you for asking.
I love your videos! They are amazing and inspirational! You have helped me so much and I just want to say thank you!😁 Keep up the great work!😃
That is so nice to hear. What's your favorite type of video?
Silverpicker I love coin grab bag videos!
I love all your videos u do so well explaining everything thanks so much for all u do❤
I was just served three of these, in consecutive serial numbers. Somehow I am thrilled.
Thank you for the Very Informative Video 😊
Great job on sharing this information!
My pleasure!
Nice video. Thank you
I know this video is 3 years old but, my dad back in the 70's started collecting the Barr notes, he had if I remember correctly a little over 6000 of them. Well he decided he needed a car and paid cash with those Barr notes (remember this was back in the 70's so car prices were a lot cheaper).
Found my first one today, made my day.
Wow really amazing video ever!!! :D
Thank you for doing this video
My pleasure, Angela!
Great video Silver picker! I don't comment much but always like. And I'm a subscriber! Appreciate all the information too!💵💖🤑
Thank you so, so much for the continued support! Which types of videos are your favorite?
Great info
I love to watch you videos it makes my day
This comment makes my day!
i have 16 all together and one from each series. didnt even know. thought they were just 1963’s. THANK YOU
I actually had a similar story to yours, I had gone to KFC to pick up supper and I had gotten a 1963B $1 bill as part of the change, So I thought “Hey, This isnt something you see every day” So I took it home and put it in my currency album and kinda forgot about it until I watched this video, Turns out, Its a Barr note from New York! 😄
Great info. Thank you. New collector looking to learn & hopefully earn🤞
Really like your videos
Thanks Karen!
Know this is 3 years late, but your video popped up on you tube yesterday afternoon and unbelievably, I actually got a Barr note in change this morning. San Francisco. Is in rough shap though. Just thought it was cool to get one the next day after watching your video.
For some strange reason I remembered my Dad talking about these back in the 60"s. So I have always looked for them. I found one a few months back so it's in my currency collection!
That's awesome! Did you guys collect together?
@@Silverpicker Long story but no. I started back in the early 60's with a bag of Walkers, Mercury dimes and Buffalo nickels and some other stuff. Had a pretty good size bag, maybe a couple pounds? Mom took it cause she needed cocktails! But off and on over a few decades I saved, collected and sold. Then I got back into it kinda heavy over the last 5 years or so. Have been coin and currency searching pretty heavy. Probably something like 10 or 15 thousand over the last couple years.I've found what I think are some pretty cool things. Star notes, a Barr note, Radars, Repeaters, Binaries, etc. But also a lot of coin errors also. Plus those key coins many like to keep. I was going through a $500 box of quarters while watching your vid. Ist time I'd seen a vid on the Barr notes. Found a 53 Silver Quarter in the middle of your video!
Thanks! I just binge-watched (and subscribed) several of your videos on the $1 bill. Of course I also checked all of mine...nope, not a single special one. I'll be going to the bank soon!
Interesting. Thanks for this. I never heard of a Barr more before.
Glad you enjoyed!
Thanks
I've been a bartender for too long to mention and have always squirreled away older bills. Paused this early on and checked my stack. Found three, all J's! I did not expect it to be a financial windfall, but still super cool. This is why I collect, just for the fun of finding something different. Thanks picker, liked and sub'd.
Super, super happy that this video helped you find some additional value in your collection. Banknote searching was always my favorite fringe benefit of tending bar. What kind of bar do you work at? I was at a performing arts theater.
I work at a dive college bar, have for a long time, it keeps me young. Just finished a 16 hour shift on one of our local schools homecoming, I feel old.
I miss working at that bar.
Like you I found one but keep it for the date then learned about barr notes now I have 2
That's awesome! Do you have any other cool notes?
I've been collecting for years and never knew this was a thing! Turns out I had 4 in my collection, one of which a NY starnote! Pretty cool!
That's awesome!! Glad to help :)
I would have left a like. I do every video I watch of yours but we all know how UA-cam works we all know why you're doing it and we all know why you want the algorithms to work for you. Inform us on what brings us here. You are very informative and in your element dude
Thank you soo much................
Very interesting and please keep making videos
Thanks! Will do!
Very interesting info...TFS
My pleasure!!
I actually found 1 about 4 months ago searching through bank tellers $100 strap of singles and the bill didn't even have a crease in it it was immaculate I couldn't believe it when I saw it
That is super awesome. Amazing
thanks for info
My Pleasure!
Thanks for sharing your Barr note. I love collecting bank notes for special serial numbers. Happy Hunting! GD
Very cool! What's your favorite in your collection?
@@Silverpicker Actually my favorite note right now is not a fancy serial number but instead is a large size two dollar United States note series 1917 that my son and daughter in law gave me for my birthday last month. I recently did a video showing it.
Hi I love your vids
Good job brother
Thank you so much 😀
I remember having some Barr notes as a kid. Of course as a kid, they were spent.
Great, informative vid. I actually thought Mr. Barr's term was cut short due to his untimely passing. Happy I was wrong. I do have 100 consecutive 1963B Barr notes in the original bank strap in excellent, uncirculated condition. Acquired well over ten years ago, maybe closer to twenty.
That is super cool!
We just received 3 sets of barr notes one set is in fine condition
Geez! Silverpicker, You had me stopped at the middle of the viewing. I thought, I had 1963 dollar bills. Unfortuneately, I only have Series of 1963 and 1963 A, No Series B. I thought I saw this a long time ago. But, thanks for "Woken" me while on you tube.
Nice!
Keep doing what your doing
Thanks man!!
We My Uncle and Myself Always referred to them as Barr Bill's I' have a few of them'
and have some with stars
Wow I never knew about that
I got an ASE and it just arrived yesterday! It is a West Point Proof and it is beautiful!
That is so awesome!! What year?
I like coin/paper videos with good info like this
Awesome! What other types of things would you like me to make videos about?
@@Silverpicker I like hearing the history about specific coins. There was a UA-cam series, I forget who, that talked about American gold coins. Interesting stuff
Very interesting
I got one in circulation on Friday. It's definitely in circulated condition, and it's one of the more common ones being a G or Chicago FRN.
Thank u
I have a vending business, I check every bill now.
nice "bar" note I have a collection of all ten (5 different mints and the star notes) I had got them from my grandfathers collection when he died
Wow, that must be some collection! Post a pic to my facebook or insta
coucou, very good vidéo im a new sub, big like and kiss from france
Awesome
Nice vid
Thanks!
I have the Barr notes in B,E,G,J &L. Also I have one with NO letter after the serial #. It has a star
I have a complete set, I found them back in the 80s, I used to be able to trade 3 of them for an ounce of silver back then
That's really awesome. Wish that was the case today!
Hi Max, hope you are well!
You too!
Good video. I have a few of these that I found in my change years ago. I have not found one in many years though. Maybe someday I will find another one.
Doesn't it feel great to find cool stuff in circulation?
Yes it certainly does! Happy hunting!
I love for you all to do a video on the $2.00 bill
That's a good idea!
also I have to ask is there any places that produce banknotes in Massachusetts???
I have a Barr note I got from cashing in a very large insurance check at one of those high cost check cashing stores, I think it cost me $150 to cash, insane.
Wow, that's a high price, but at least you got something cool on top of the cash
I have 4 of these Barr notes.
2 are from the Chicago Illinois bank
1 from Richmond Virginia
1 new York
One of the Barr notes is in uncirculated condition ( worth around $4.00 ) And I managed to find the bills in Ohio at a antique store.
Awsome
Have a question on the Dollar bill I have a number 2 bigger than the rest is that a error dollar
I have found a 2017A $5 dollar star note.
i have an uncirculated barr note i bought about 15 years ago pretty cheap
Just found one today
A termite walks into a pub. He asks “ Is the bar tender here?”
I got 1 of bar note series 1963 B Joseph W. Barr made in (B) New York and 1 Henry H. Fowler series 1963 A made in (I) Indianapolis.
talk about bragging rights "Bills printed under my run are worth more then other bills!"
Hey Silverpicker: Quick Question:
How rare is it to have four $1 bills with consecutive serial numbers(every number the same except the last) Stumbled across it yesterday and found it pretty neat
Not at all actually. If you go to the bank and ask for a stack of brand new ones, they'll give you 100 consecutive notes.
Not all that rare or valuable unless it's a very old bill or has interesting serial numbers. For example if it was 00000001, 00000002, etc
@@Silverpicker thank you for the reply. Love your channel, it's gotten me back into collecting.
I have 14 Barr Notes in basically uncirculated condtion...how do I get the best price ...they have no creases , 1963 , I really need your help .
I love your videos! do more grab bag videos pls!
Thank you so much Aaron! I will try!
I have 3 uncirculated Barr Notes (1963-B) in sequential order. My uncle used to work for the US Treasury. Unfortunately, I had sold much of my collection of Peace Dollars and Morgans to a dealer and only got melt values for them. Now in looking back that was a stupid move by me since the 1922 Peace Dollar - depending on the type could have been worth a fortune. But I was not into the coins that much and needed the money. So, if one uncirculated Barr Note sold for $125.00. What would you think 3 uncirculated notes in sequential order would be worth. I would think at least $500.00. I also have a trinary bills and radar's and a super repeater which I would like to sell. But I am thinking of going thru an auction to get these sold.
That's a good question. I'd recommend taking a look on heritageauctions.com and comparing the results to what you have
Does anyone know someone I could show a few error coins I think they are punch throughs or when you can see the back on the front and parts of the front on the back and also I've got a ton of Star notes I'm going to go check them out and see if any of them are special so I appreciate that
I have a 1963D Barr note with the 5
Nice Kimberly!
It's been 60 years. $1 bills usually get recycled and burnt after certain years or get too torn. There is no way you can get one Barr bill in exchange. Maybe you can find one if you work in the Fed facility recycling the bill like the 3 women in movie Mad Money. I had about $200 - $300 used $1 bills, and all I could find was one 1995 $1, all else are 2003 or later years.
I have some for sale,,don t know what to charge..fun collecting..don t have bar notes..but other fancy notes
1963 B barr note i have one
I found a bar note in my collection it's a star note & UNC as well, wounded what it's worth?
That's super cool. What's the serial number?
Pleaseee..resennnd thiss vid...to everyone 😁😁
hey man just so you know your referral link down below,, the one for M1 finance "20 dollar investment for free", doesn't send us to M1 Finance instead it sends us to Ambassabor Marketing something or other for something else,, so somebody either hijacked your link or just a mix up either way you probably need to change this cause I really wanted to find out about the offer M1 Financing had for your channel,,as I'm sure you would have benefited from the inquiry ,, any way great information thanks for the schooling

I found 4 Barr Dollars that was given to me in 1969 as a graduation gift... I put in a book and just found. They are in serial number order, mint condition... Any value?
That is so awesome! Definitely some value, but I'd recommend checking out ebay sold listings to see what the current prices are
