    If you're a foreigner walking around the side-streets in Kabukicho, watch out for the Nigerian dudes.
    They're all super friendly and speak perfect English.
    If they offer to take you to a club or even just to "show you around," keep walking.

      @@riffgroovethanks for clarifying but why call it the adult zone if they are not prostitutes?

    • @riffgroove
      @riffgroove 5 місяців тому

      @@Maestroxxx1 Because it is pretty much all host and hostess clubs in that area at night.
      Which you obviously need to be an adult to enter.
      Prostitution is illegal in Japan.

    • @riffgroove
      @riffgroove 5 місяців тому +2

      @Maestroxxx1 To clarify, prostitution does take place in Japan.
      But brothels there do not accept foreigners.
      I DID stumble upon the "stroll" a couple of blocks to the North of this area, but it was strange.
      One side of the street was beautiful women, the other side was "rooms by the hour" Love Hotels.
      I got accosted and propositioned by a couple of girls. But with the sheer number of people ( including police ) watching all the goings on, you'd have to be insane to attempt it.
      In Japan, if the police suspect you of committing a crime, they can throw you in jail for almost a month before they even officially charge you with one.
      No thanks.
      If you're interested in "sex tourism," Japan is NOT the place to do it.

    Japanese religiosity is based on Shintoism. Only a couple of percent of Japanese profess Christianity but the commercial Christmas seems to be doing proselytizing work.

      @MrSmishSmosh 5 місяців тому

      Actually, Christianity and Shintoism are both minority religions at around 10% of the population claiming to follow each. The vast majority are atheists, the same as here in the UK.

    • @riffgroove
      @riffgroove 5 місяців тому

      Shintoism isn't really a religion, in the conventional sense.
      You don't go to church or adhere to any sort of moral code.
      Shinto ( which is about 80% of the Japanese population ) is more of a lifestyle choice than anything else.
      The next largest religion in Japan is Buddhism.
      Only about 1% of Japanese people identify as Christian, but EVERYBODY celebrates Christmas there.
      They just don't pay any attention at all to the religious aspect of it.
      Fun facts... Christmas is Japan is the second largest romantic holiday for couples I Japan.
      And the traditional Christmas Day feast in Japan is KFC.
      No lie. Every KFC in Japan has a line-up around the block on Christmas day.

      Thanks for sharing your insight.
      I just wanted to emphasize that sometimes it's good to think about where all the different ideas come from. The world is becoming globalized anyway, but we should not ignore our original culture.
      Have a good year ahead!

    Why do the maids always look away from the camera?

    • @Fate862
      @Fate862 5 місяців тому +1

      Afew reasons. The maid cafes usually all have pictures you can take with them as a part of a meal deal you pay for. Another reason is that there are some creeps who take pictures or record them so of course anyone would avoid that especially if they know the cafe where you work its worrying. Third reason could be well the japanese people all do not like to be recorded in general. If you go to a store or something they may have signs where they say do not record or take pictures. Or once your inside they tell you not to record or just simply throw you out. The main rule of all maid cafes is you cannot record or take any pictures. You need special permission most of the time to if you can get it. That's for inside the cafe not sure if that is for outside but still.
      The japanese are very shy people but lately the younger generation is becoming abit more tolerable of it but if you notice when people on the street see you recording they walk faster to get out of view, turn their face, give you a look or just see it as "another foreigner recording" so they let it slide without feeling too embarrassed. All places in japan you need to ask for permission before you record their face or their place of work. You can usually get a yes but if you don't ask you just seem rude, they tell you that you can't record, or shy away. Japan still likes to use facemasks to cover their face so it helps their shyness.
