But holy crap I was absolutely tweaking over the window stickers on this new one. I hate window stickers. I personally think lego should always print on windows. Regardless of its flaws, I really like the 2025 . I feel like its smaller scale fits better with the Jedi interceptor and mini figure scales. I bought it yesterday , waited 15 years for this.
I'm fortunate enough to own the 2010 model and, like many others, have waited a long time for a remake. Even though the latest model looks cleaner, I am disappointed in the scale and that the proportions are way off on certain aspects. Maybe one day they'll make a UCS version?
Seems like lots of the issue with the newest Arc has to do with the side cannons being short. As far as custom mods go, wouldn’t it be relatively simple to take out the shorter pieces and replace them with a longer black piece to make the cannons a little longer and more proportionate to the rest of the fighter?
The wingspan is also a big problem as far as proportions go. Ryan pointed it out at one point with the red and white sections on the wings, the newest one's white portion is just way too short.
I think another huge factor is the price on the after market. Sets that go up significantly in value after retiring is just a reflection on how desirable and liked the set is by the fans, and the 2010 ARC- 170 is pricey on the after market for a good reason!

I did the same to the 2010 one I found it in a box of old lego sets at a yard sale and boy. The motherlode. Used Quarrie's Workshop instructions and spares from my latest X Wing. Now I have a great looking X wing and a great looking Arc-170... or so I thoight. Because he released an upgrade to this new set and I'll probably have all the pieces already if I get this set. Probably the last time I will re-build this ship.
It truly is not priced badly compared to 2010. I know sets are way overpriced right now but no one talks about the price hikes in 2009-2011 and the last model was a clear victim of that
I get the impression that the best LEGO version of the ARC-170 would be to integrate features of all three (or at least the 2010 and 2025 models). Like, if you combined the interior, S-foils mechanism, and smooth contour lines of the 2025 model with size and proportions of 2010 model and the printed pieces of the 2005 model.
About the accuracy, I noticed while building that Lego wants you to place the two rear end red triangle-shaped stickers facing the wrong way, the sharp edges points inwards to the ship, but Lego wants them to point outwards which is inaccurate to the ship, but easily corrected
i completely agree with what you said here and because I already own the 2010 one (it was totally in pieces scattered around every single bin in my collection) I just did my best to rebuild it roughly following the instructions instead of buying the new one
I lowkey enjoy the smaller size of the ships nowadays. Yes, the prices are pretty ridiculous at time but smaller ships with more detail is nice for shelf space, storage, and mocs as it’s more to scale.
I still have the 2005 version built and on display and with the brittle red pieces, i certainly couldn't swoosh it like that - these days the wings will fall apart if you just look at them for too long 😂
I feel like the elements that the 2025 does well are extremely important if you're going to have it as a display piece. Sure it's a little more compact, but the build is SO much cleaner. The wing mechanism is a huge improvement, the unsightly gaps are closed, the interior looks great, and the minifigs are top notch. This while video made me like the 2025 more, not less.
I have the 2005 one still sitting on a shelf. It's got a few bits that haven't aged too well, I like the flat angle to the nose rather than the curve, even if it has some gap problems, and the opening side panels were useful as a kid. Printed pieces are so NICE though...
What irritates me is the sheer FACT that they could look at concept art, look at fan mocs, LOOK AT THEIR OWN PRIOR MODELS, and then make this and say "its fine". This set should have been a freaking slam dunk. This is the perfect example how a non printed leg can look better than a printed one. I’m talking about the clone pilot comparison. I think the really messed up the new figure by their leg printing.
Eh..... Limited shelf space is a concern I don't think is taken into account enough. We've all heard people say at some point, "I thought about getting x set, but I don't have the space for it." I AM considering the newest version though because it is very sleek, toyetic and manageable, and I overall appreciate Lego Star Wars' sets getting more compact in recent years. I don't even see how it looks "bad." I just wish it was cheaper, urgh >_
I understand your point but in this case the compact size is terrible, the arc is SUPPOSED to be massive litrally look at it in lore or in games downsizing to the size of a x wing is completely wrong especially for fans who have been waiting so long 🤦
@@Comet_373 I guess..... over the years, I've just grown to place less and less importance on accuracy or scale and more on function and the impression of a thing. I'm not a big lego Star Wars fan, just a lego in general fan, largely because the push for accuracy and detail in Lego Star Wars makes it feel dull and pointless to me. There's a point where I've gotta ask "Wouldn't a hasbro toy or more traditional model kit better serve to recreate the 'real' thing? Why make it lego at all if we don't want it to LOOK like lego? A little deformed, a little awkward and lumpy?" That's just my taste, though.
@@NickonPlanetRipple I think this is the main difference between Lego collectors and Star Wars collectors. Not to say one is wrong and the other is right, it's just a difference in preferences. As for Hasbro, the main problem is availability. For the 'vintage collection' size, getting a hand of a gunship, an ARC-170 or an AT-TE will run you as high as a retired sealed Lego set of the same vehicle, since those are barely made anymore. And you can't even buy a beat up one and replace parts of it like you can with Lego cause it's not a building toy. For Black Series barely any vehicles exists and even a TIE Fighter is pretty big and expensive, considering Black Series figures are pretty big. The Vintage Collection size gunship is already almost as big as the UCS Lego gunship, a black series one would be gigantic, expensive and hard to display. Model kits are a good compromise, but usually don't have figures or have low quality figures accompanying them. So Star Wars collectors get into Lego because they have popular and desired vehicles for sale and have good looking figures to go with them.
2010 aged pretty well, but the upgrade to the s-foil for the 2025 really sells me the most. Mine will be arriving soon, so I look forward to adding the 2010 features around the 2025 mechanism.
Never had an arc-170 before but I ordered the new one and I'm going to mod it like crazy: - Fix cannons - Fill in the back section with the turret - Rework the bottom of the ship to be less flimsy and more clean looking - Extend the wing length by two studs
you forgot to mention how brittle the dark red pieces were on the older models. The nose piece of the 2010 model broke off for me because of how brittle those pieces are.
Unpopular opinion, but I like the 2025 version the most; it's got a clean, coherent, and sleek build, it's the closest of the 3 to "minifig scale" (even if the proportions are off in some locations), It doesn't feel like it'll rattle apart, and it's got the best minifigs of the bunch.
I’m just glad LEGO actually kept what was good for the figures and then only updated the parts that needed improvement, unlike a lot of their newer iterations.
Regarding the underside falling off, you can see a white plate hidden under the big red one that keeps falling off, and this white plate seems to not be properly connected as it is angled weirdly (well visible at 18:44). Is it possible you perchance have it loose and that's the reason for the insufficient clutch power? I do not own the set and maybe it is as intended, but it seems weird at first glance.
I don’t think you should let some changes stop you from enjoying an arguably really solid set. As someone who now owns all 3 with the 2005 set being my first, this set really made me happy regardless of the changes.
I own the 2010 version and was very much keen to upgrade it after hearing about the leaks of a new version, but I gotta say the new one was a real missed opportunity. I don't even care about the pricing, considering that the old ones were overpriced as well, but the set overall is just plain ugly to me. the proportions from the cannons to the wings are just so wonky and way off, and it's funny how the new one's cannon lenght is closer to the arc 170 microfighter's than they are to the other two's
Despite being smaller than the previous two, the wings on the newest one actually have the best shaping. The new wings have a straight edge that curves perfectly into the rounded edge whereas the previous two have that really ugly sudden angle change between the white and red parts of the wings. The new one has its issues (particularly the wing cannons and the sticker color) but to say that the 2005 one looks better overall with its numerous gaps, exposed gears, bits of tan, poor wing angle, etc., just shows how much nostalgia has colored your biases in this comparison.
@Brave_Sir_Robin I really have to disagree. The only negatives are the slighty too short wings, way undersized guns, and color of the canopy stickers. Everything else about the new one, from the shaping and angles, more minifig scale size, overall durability, quality of figures, more completed look with less exposed gaps, and so on, absolutely take it above the previous two releases. The only things the previous ones have going for them are the better sizes of wings and guns, and the 2010 one has better canopy stickers. Everything else that's "better" about the previous ones is up to nostalgia and personal biases.
So I'm watching Ryan review these sets and along the way I'm thinking "...these nitpicks are no big deal, why focus on those when there is so much good in the set..." . And then it hits me; I just paid $89 with tax for this set and it darn-well needs to be the best bleeping set it can be for that kind of money! Considering that, I'm like... Yeah! Anyway, I like this channel and occasionally throw a few things out. Keep up the good work M&R! I like your content.
I owned the 2005 and 2010 one, and both had their perks, but ultimately i ended up enjoying the 2010 one more. It was proportionally the coolest one. Those big ass engines are just incredible.
Moving the pilots out of the way isn't a problem. In terms of which color is it green or grey. Both is technically accurate because of three different versions. One had green, one had grey and the other ones had no colored stripe on the nose. The same goes with engine size. Not all of them had the same engine size. Same goes with the translucent piece. Not all of them had that. The 2025 is kinda an outlier. It doesn't conform to the previous versions that were based off the same thing. Kinda like the last ATST we got. It was based of the lesser known Hoth version instead of the widely known Endor moon version.
The 2010 design pretty much perfected the cannon designs and wing size, and while i definetly appreciate the 2025 one being minifig scale, it would certainly benefit from extending main wings and improving those cannons
Really wanting a ucs arc fighter. Glad to see it finally making a comeback, But I’d love to see the arc-170 and droid trifighter get the same treatment as the x wing and tie interceptor

I agree with the scores. Older versions are better.
Let’s make a petition for LEGO to stop false advertising
you forgot to mention how brittle the dark red pieces were on the older models. The nose piece of the 2010 model broke off for me because of how brittle those pieces are.
2025 is Best set ever, so underpriced, and super accurate
LAN Lego glazer
Bro the ragebait is way to obvious
@Replayybear lol
I love my Arc 170, I recently got the 2025 one and its nice to have one
Let’s go! I was waiting for this
I’m just glad LEGO actually kept what was good for the figures and then only updated the parts that needed improvement, unlike a lot of their newer iterations.
Lego when designing this arc 170: ok, they complained about the cannons being too long on the aat, so let's make them way shorter to appease the fans
Regarding the underside falling off, you can see a white plate hidden under the big red one that keeps falling off, and this white plate seems to not be properly connected as it is angled weirdly (well visible at 18:44). Is it possible you perchance have it loose and that's the reason for the insufficient clutch power? I do not own the set and maybe it is as intended, but it seems weird at first glance.
man those new pilot helmets are nice
I saw the box in target, so excited to be able to get the set I had as a kid again- watched this and I guess I’ll wait another 15 years…
I don’t think you should let some changes stop you from enjoying an arguably really solid set. As someone who now owns all 3 with the 2005 set being my first, this set really made me happy regardless of the changes.
@ I may grab it then, thank you man
I own the 2010 version and was very much keen to upgrade it after hearing about the leaks of a new version, but I gotta say the new one was a real missed opportunity.
I can't decide which one is the best. I think 2025 would be best if it was just bigger. I love the smooth design but hate how small it is.
Some positives more negatives imo
@Brave_Sir_Robin I really have to disagree. The only negatives are the slighty too short wings, way undersized guns, and color of the canopy stickers. Everything else about the new one, from the shaping and angles, more minifig scale size, overall durability, quality of figures, more completed look with less exposed gaps, and so on, absolutely take it above the previous two releases. The only things the previous ones have going for them are the better sizes of wings and guns, and the 2010 one has better canopy stickers. Everything else that's "better" about the previous ones is up to nostalgia and personal biases.
The new ones function might not open the foils as much but my god is it so much nicer to open it with such ease
I have the original 2005 one and I've just been making small mods to it based off bits of the newer sets. It's working well for being my only 1
So I'm watching Ryan review these sets and along the way I'm thinking "...these nitpicks are no big deal, why focus on those when there is so much good in the set..." . And then it hits me; I just paid $89 with tax for this set and it darn-well needs to be the best bleeping set it can be for that kind of money! Considering that, I'm like... Yeah! Anyway, I like this channel and occasionally throw a few things out. Keep up the good work M&R! I like your content.
i personally love the 2010 arc-170, it was just such a fun set to play with; even with the wings taking forever to open.
The thumbnail is a roast in of itself
I owned the 2005 and 2010 one, and both had their perks, but ultimately i ended up enjoying the 2010 one more. It was proportionally the coolest one. Those big ass engines are just incredible.
I have been waiting🎉🎉
You’re making me want to dig up the parts and rebuild the 2005 model
I think if lego would have just used $5 in pieces added to the 2025 version it would be so much better
New looks better, smoother and it isnt too oversized. Also Minifigs are soo good i love it 😍
Nice vid 👍
Haven't watched it yet but im assuming the placements are like this:
2010 arc-170
2005 arc-170
2025 Arc-170
Common sense wins as per usual 😂
This video makes me want to go on Bricklink and collect all the best printed pieces from the 3 sets and make a set that looks fantastic.
Under one hour👇🏻
