THE NFSU SKYLINE GT R was a REAL CAR!

- The EA Games NFSU Skyline GT-R (driven by "Eddie") was an actual, real-life car - and a lucky winner took the car home for real!
Me and my partner, Neil Tjin, had the pleasure of creating this real-life car for use in promotions of the video game.
So basically my whole childhood is created by this guy.
Me2now
Mine too lol
Yup
Pretty much…😅
Mine aswell!
You are shitting me?! When I was a kid I had the poster of Brians skyline and eddies skyline on my bedroom wall!! And you made both? You sir are a fucking legend
Dude you made our childhood years awesome with both the fast and furious films and underground games
💁
Now they're saying NFS bad because it's like F&F and not like Underground, Underground was basically based on The Fast and The Furious lol
@@shinomakichuppy8236 the fast and furious movies after tokiodrift are possibly meant by these people.
I actually got this game for free before it came out because at the time my mom was dating a guy who worked at EA Vancouver. I also vaguely remember seeing the R34 in Vancouver because I lived there at the time. I was about 8 years old and I thought it was the coolest thing I ever saw.
Fast and Furious is the reason that the supra cost more than it should.
So Eddie is actually Craig Lieberman
Plot twist.
Ethan M UK In Fast 10 Eddie, disguised as Craig the race starter from Race Wars will return to take care of Dom and his crew once and for all
@@ggj1987 I like this
There’s nothing worse then winning a car like this and then having to sell it just to pay the taxes on it.
JASON JACKSON ask all those people who Oprah gave those new cars to. Very few of them kept them for long, if at all because the taxes were sky high (depending on the state as much as 50% of the value of the car because it falls under the gambling tax).
CamaroAmx ahh yeah that’s crazy imo it should come tax free for obvious reasons. 1 most important tax is illegal anyways. But yeah that’s crazy
I'm surprised they did the giveaway here anyway. The car was only in the US on temp visa as Craig said and with this country's track record it's lucky it wasn't crushed (ex. Big Bird)
Tori L that’s a very good point. He did say it was in a temp bond import. I can’t believe they added NOS but ripped the turbo out cause they were worried. Lol
Americas tax system sucks.
Crazy to think how one guy made entire generations of people around the world love JDM cars with his input.
I never realised that the guy who made the 2Fast2Furious GTR was the same guy who made Eddie's Skyline.
Thank you for making my childhood awesome.
This blew my mind as well! These two GIRLS will forever be remembered for how iconic they are.
This video just made my day as they are a huge past of childhood as well!
Hello need for speed fam I’m Craig Lieberman ...

Ahh this Skyline brings back memories. 10-year old me screaming “TO THE WINDOOOOOOW TO THE WALL” while this car is pullin’ up after the intro. 😌
TILL THE SWEAT DRIPS DOWN MY BALLS and then get slapped by my mom
Then when she leaves the room you whisper "skeet skeet GD!!!!!" She hollers back in the room what did you say!!! you say nothing nothing it was the game sorry mom
This summarizes my childhood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Omg the memories
Remember playing NFSU and making clones of the F&F movie cars awesome game for the time
This channel is such a joy to watch - it's almost like reliving the early days of The Fast & The Furious movies and the Need for Speed games. It's awesome to learn the story behind all of the hero cars.
Best wishes from Portugal!
I remember seeing this car being given away on MTV TRL (Total Request Live) where you had to watch TRL and make note of a license plate that had a letter showing on one of the music videos being played that day and the end of the week you had to call in and say what the license plate read.
I was #2 in line, but the first person got the answer correct. And that was it. Its good to finally know what actually happened. I was 18 at the time and my parents were on board to pay the taxes on the car so I could keep it.
Thats a hole in the chest
@@fritzbautista5933 I look at it this way - I never had the car in the first place so its not like I 'lost' it. Kinda sucks she had to sell it to pay for the taxes.
@@rotor13 alot of people don't understand that they still have to pay taxes. It sucks but all well
Fuuuck!, i wish you would of won it, im sure you would of made a UA-cam account by now showing the car, i know thats what I would of done. Or gone to VinWiki and told the story. Shit that girl is a whole bunch of missed opportunities, even though she lost it, she can still get some fame from it and possibly even get it back somehow if its just sitting around. Some people just dont even know wtf is in there possession.
@Adrian Vegas Damn. I hope you don't give them money anymore.
Thank you Craig for making the greatest history of automobile modifications
EVERYBODY talks about Need for Speed Underground 2. I'm so happy to finally see recognition for the first street racing game I've ever played on PS2. NFS Underground d-original!!!
No matter how good the second game was, the first game was legendary and paved the way for the second. Hell, I owe almost all of my taste in music to the first game and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.
i miss the 2000-2009 tuning style 😢👌

Ok, now you behave like a child, it shows that you are one of those presumed now with nothing to do but insult other tuning styles, that makes them toxic.

@@craiglieberman okay...!
Im confused on how the car was given away if it had a 1 year temporary title. It would've needed to be exported out of the country. I feel like that is more intriguing then the build. Because if it was not a motorex car it would of never been legal and might of caused more legal issues to EA games then the big turbo.
i thought the same thing how could MTV give away a car that can't be registered in any state. probably why the owner sold it. He did say she was like 19 years old at the time so why pay taxes on a car you can never LEGALLY drive
rev8rx8 EA Games has a Canadian HQ. So the car was technically owned by a Canadian.
I heard that the car was shipped back over due to the temporary import license not shortly after they won the car but I still am shocked that they even sold a Street Illegal car in the first place and I love how they were worried about the single turbo but not worried about the nos system in the back, yes a single turbo is more powerful than a twin but at the same time even the stock twins are pretty devastating with all those modifications done to it.....
From all these videos you did, I just realized that you literally helped build most of our childhood. Thanks Craig.
the suits were scared that someone would wrap this car around a tree so they took off the big turbo and put on the twin turbos. But hey lets give away a car that is NOT street legal in ANY state. go figure
I thought the same, if they were concerned about that then maybe they shouldn't give away a GTR in the first place
Eddie's Skyline still to this day has the best Widebody kit!!
I Also wonder if Craig was involved in NFS: Heat
UnicornVomit69 doubt it
3:35 I took that picture in Denver! what a time.. I miss the early 2000's..
I could just be old, but the before looked perfect to me. A white R34 V-Spec GTR, with those first loaner wheels, that’s car goals right there.
Nowadays, we all agree. Its extremely rare to see an R34 With a non-oem body
and not slammed to the fucking ground with horrendous negative camber
The finished product looked better to me, minus the stereo rape.
White R34s are a lot more common in Japan, even more than the Bayside Blue.
I always knew there was a correlation between NFSU and 2F2F there was a reason the skyline was the last car to unlock EA knew we fell in love with the car after the movie. Good info on it!
So you’re responsible for two of the greatest skylines ever👌👌👌👌
This man literally had a huge impact on one of my favorite childhood game. Wow.
Wow..... What an amazing story Craig. I had no idea this car was real.
In NFSU2 the original blue GT-R with yellow side stripes is just Craig's GT-R but with yellow instead of red stripes. My mind blown when I saw that.
I forgot all about this car! I long for the hot summer nights of the early 2000’s just out of high school when we were all street racing in the country back roads and going home to play Need For Speed Underground. We obsessed over cars like the R34 and the MKIV Supra
I've actually seen the NFSU GTR in person at the Colorado tuner shop you mentioned. The shop is called Racing Trendz and is still in business. I saw the car around 2004/2005 when a friend or mine and I swung by there randomly and there it was in the middle of the shop. It's still the one and only time I've seen an R34 GTR in person.
There are a couple 34's running around the Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia Area. I see a gray one in Olympia more often, dude hits up Dutch Bro's drive in, backwards.
Should come down to Australia. Round Bankstown area near Sydney you’ve got a GTR in one garage and a Supra in the next. And they’re always built and detailed to perfection
You should swing by LA I saw three gtrs with the same crew name spattered across the car plus you go to any car meet in LA área theres always a gtr somewhere
@@Toxic2T you heard wrong LA has tons of r34
@@NightsN2dr3ams theres ways around laws buddy
Imagine winning that car and selling it to pay taxes on something you couldnt "legally" own.
Gotta say though the white GT-R on the borrowed gold BBS wheels looked good actually. It also fits more to today's trends and styles.
6:52 Both of these two icon cars were made by the same person, who knew? What a legend!!
true question is where is this car right now at this day
EA giving GT-R for free? Imagine!!! FOR FREE!!!!!!
The pre-riced white gtr was beautiful...
It looked more bland than the Rice we eat.
Phantom Thief the wheels alone were worth more than that entire fiberglass kit. Went from Godzilla to cereal box car.
Yea totally ruined a nice and clean example, i mean at least keep the BBS LM's on it instead of those tacky as fuck diamond cut cheap ass wheels
@Adrian Vegas I agree as well, don't wanna compare but it has aged light-years better than the BMW M3 GTR from Most Wanted.
Nfsu is one of the coolest car games ever. Now I know why, thank you Craig!!
Can you please help them make a realistic tuner racing game for the new generation?
I knew that NFSU was related with Fast and Furious, but didn’t anticipated it was that much!
Wow makes me think how nice EA was back then. It's sad to see how they are now.
NFS NO LIMIT is a failure
Craig It did end up in Colorado for some time. At the local shop not to far from me. I could always ask where it went after for you.
Please do it
Dude get on it!!!!
Matthew Holcomb hell yeah!
Do it! The world needs to know
I will swing by there sometime this week. I actually need to to aluminum pipe for my intercooler
I've owned over 30 cars in my life and I'm only 37...but they were all zeros.
"Eddie's Skyline and my 2 Fast 2 Furious Skyline have even appeared together in one of these video games"
Bruh, that's a mod...
Lol Ikr
Technically he's right
Doesnt matter if its a mod both of his car had tremendous impact on culture to the point people took the time to recreate his work in games.
Absolute legend
Even if it's a mod, I would be honored to know that someone liked my car idea enough to make a replica via software modification. It takes alot of time to do software modifications dude so yah you should feel honored if you craft something and someone is willing to spend their leisure time making it fit into the game.
This video is a real treat Craig! Growing up playing NFSU (and the sequel) and enamored by the tuner scene, just brings back so many good memories of the early 2000's. I still remember reading gaming magazine articles about NFSU and seeing this car. While never a huge GT-R fan at the time, but aware of their revered presence in racing games, I did gain huge respect and admiration for their vast capabilities and top status within the JDM/Tuner world (meaning it was easily the best car in those games 😏). Craziest part is to see it's fate just given away; giving away a legend like that. I have to assume they didn't realize how big of a deal this car was, but whatever. Anyway, thanks for the nostalgia trip Craig!
Shame they didn't go all out making Eddies GTR, with a custom made widebody kit etc
Yeah this is shit they should attach mantis kit and rims are different too
New Zealanders be like: "Skoyline GDR!"
GD ahh 😂 they can’t say R either
You might be the only person to say "good folks" and "EA games" in the same sentence.
Back then I'm sure they were, it was still another few years until NFS was ruined
When get low started playing at the intro screen; I knew this was going to be a badass game.
That soundtrack was perfect.
Do you know how EA went around the import restrictions so that the fan who got the car could actually drive it? Or even keep it in the US, actually.
Alessandro Comparini Basbaum No infor on that,‘I’m sorry. I just don’t know.
@@craiglieberman No prob, thanks for the reply anyway! Super interesting to see how closely both of these icons of my childhood were connected.
I saw this car in person at a car audio show in 2005 in Lone Tree, Colorado...still have the pictures!!! The side black graphics were no longer there, just the sponsor stickers. It was being driven as a daily driver in addition to winning the entire car show. At the time the owner was explaining it was road legal and passed the strict emissions standards in addition to being a real right-handed drive. nice to see the owner was not lying when saying it came from the NFSU game.
Hey mate any chance you can email me the pictures? I now own this car

It's so strange how scares the internet is when providing info about Eddies gtr in real life. I couldn't find anything, until i came across your video, which is the only video i can find, as well as it being very recent.
I started to play NFS underground again around the end of last year, and just earlier today, i unlocked Eddies gtr, I thought to myself "i wonder if this is an actual car in real life", turns out it is
This is insane I can't believe this i had no idea that Craig was the one that built one of most iconic skylines of my generation also the NFSU skyline was the first skyline I ever seen in real Life back in 2004 at Hot Import Nights LA this car literally changed my life Max love
Interesting and different topic, that Skyline is equal to Brian Skyline in terms of popularity
You should contact VINwiki and find where this GT-R has ended up now... Really cool story...
frankgile1996 VINwiki uses pl82 vins and im almost certain that the gtr doesn’t use a 16 digit vin. Would still be cool if they could provide more insight on its current whereabouts though.
Nfs underground 1 & 2 was life lol
Craig.... the fact that we got to experience both of these skylines in a movie series we love and a video game series we love.. both are probably the most iconic Skyline’s ever built, thank you for your work and thank you for this video.
Now this makes me wonder who won the Mitsubishi lancer Evo from Tokyo Drift when they gave the replica away. Always loved that car.
But did you ever play The fast and the furious on the ps2 ?
You're a true artist, you have my respect, and I'm sure not only mine, but every car enthusiast's.

Hats off lol
Fast amd Furious was one thing, but NFSU also... wow a huge portion of my younger years fueled by this stuff. The game alone was in my consolen 24/7 for the better part of 2 to 3 years always having friends over for races.

That's literally my favorite movie and game. The best sound, visuals, car design, everything. I feel so sad that NFS doesn't do games in Underground style anymore. And that Fast and Furious turn into an alien invasion-superhero-gun shooting-physics laws where? kind of a movie. We are left only with nostalgia and I thank you for that, Craig Lieberman. You do such a good job of telling us a story and making us feel younger again!
Just found you thanks to youtube recommendations and I'm so happy I did, you're a legend dude
I remember watching some of the tutorial videos in NFSU that featured this car and tried so hard to set the right performance parts in order to get the same sound, only to later realize that the videos just used sound clips from 2 Fast 2 Furious...
It was doable, I did the same thing. The car came standard with the noise you wanted. It just wasn't fast enough. I must have spent at least an hour the first time working out which parts didn't change the exhaust note.
@@Mrx1080 The second game has a decently accurate sound, but not the first game. I'm also talking about the _actual_ sound you hear in the tutorials, which is not possible.
