Wow Duane, I think you have outdone yourself! That was a GREAT video! I loved the new intro too, especially for A/C and escaping gases. What a time saver tool on the schrader valves and the listening tool. Thanks again for a great video!
I’ve never seen a tool like this before I need to get the kit myself . Very neat . Wont loose any Freon ! I always just recovered the system then replaced them .
love that Schrader valve tool. I evacuated the whole damn thing and recharged to replace the low high valves and a gasket. if just the Schrader that is totally AWESOMENESS.
I'm an engineer, and I wanna tell ya, whoever came up with that pressurized system Schrader valve replacement tool was thinking cleverly that day. I have a leaker in my TL which has never been de-pressurized, and I am GETTING this tool. Your vids are great!
i still have about 10 cans of r12 and also the guages so i'm just gonna keep using r12 until i have no use for it. my other car also uses r12. as you can tell my cars are old and i'm always working on them. so i'm grateful for your videos.
I watched this video because I am having a leak in the system on one SUV which have to be charged once each season and at the end of the season I can tell that it isn't as cold as it was when I charged it originally. I took the vehicle to one dealership and they said they could not find any leaks, and I am going to take it to another dealership to see if they can find the problem. I have used coolant with dye in it, but I could not find them, but I didn't know about the detector you used to find it. Thanks for sharing the information on how to check the system, and I may be having a problem with that valve being bad also.
Honestly I find the sniffer to be a godsend. Harbor freight for $50-60 excellent deal, you can find leaks in 2 mins. For the Schrader valves spray with brake cleaner and let dry for a while. Then test. Especially if you just added r134a and dye.
My favorite is bit of spit on the index finger, touch it to the fitting and get a bubble, if the bubble grows it is leaking, if not wipe the spit of and replace the cap. Cost = $0.00.
Great Minds think alike! I've been using dishsoap diluted with tapwater for years although I have an expensive sniffer and the UV die injector I still like soap bubbles.
WARNING: The shrader valve is *NOT* the type you buy for tires. They are specially designed for A/C applications. You can purchase them at an auto parts store, just be sure you get the A/C ones, not the tires ones.
Nice video and gadget for replacing the service valves. Would you recommend a really thin layer of silicone paste on the rubber-like gaskets to ensure gas tight valves?
I have the mastercool 81490 but my valve gets stuck when I pull it out..is there another tool that is for a bigger valve? I have the next size up from the smallest.
One time on my dad's pt cruiser I was doing some ac work because there was a leak because there was no refrigerant. But I put it under a vacuum it was holding too but I had a thought why don't I take off the low side (because it's was easier and has a different valve and my luck it was bad because Chrysler) as soon as I took it off it started hissing real loud (and it went bad again too after like 9 years I changed it again) I found it hilarious on a whim I did that and I found the leak. There was another leak on one of the rubber hoses and I changed that too I knew that valve might have been bad because well it was green in color and it's supposed to be a bronze color so yeah it worked. Always check your valves too
A lot of times the shraider valves will not have a 100% prefect seal, and your system should always have properly sealed caps on all shraider ports. I notice with my brand new Prius V, that when I loosen the caps after a few weeks, a little bit of pressure hisses out from under the caps. Are there any brass or aluminum caps that I could use instead of plastic?
I notice that when I push the AC button on my 2009 Ford Focus SE the AC compressor never comes on and it doesnt blow AC. I dont think its a refridgerant leak since the gauge shows that there is enough refridgerant in the AC system. So I dont think theres a leak. I dont even hear the compressor come on when I push the AC button. So do you think its something with the compressor or could there be another part that malfunctioned. I do sometimes hear screeching noises coming from the right side of the engine when I start the car so could there be something over there that effects the AC that may be malfunctioned?
Hi Rich, thanks much for these very helpful videos. I need your thoughtful suggestions: I vacuumed my Honda Civic for an hour to the -30 psi, stopped for an hour without seeing any pressure change, vacuumed again for 45 minuets. When I added R134a, the clutch engaged for the first half can (12 oz can), and the low pressure line was cold. However, when I added more, the clutch still kicked on and off but only warm air came out. I suspect a leak somewhere, but cannot detect it with UV added. Anyway, I have filled 23 oz of R 134a as the system required, but the low side pressure drops to zero whenever clutch engaged and no cooling air at all either idle or drive around. Is it possible the leak occurs only after filled with refrigerant but not through vacuuming? Do you think adding some “leak stop” can help? I have tried for several times but really have no idea what’s going on. Highly appreciate your great help!
yes, when you vacuum a system it creates negative pressure and a leak will only show up when there is negative pressure in the system. However in a normally charged system you add pressure so it becomes a positive pressurized system. So if the leak is due to positive pressure you won't see it under a vacuum. Dye would be th preferred method. You add the r134 with dye, when it leaks out under positive pressure the dye will remain and hopefully you can find it that way. Keep in mind, if the source of the leak is in the evaporator it could easily be hidden from sight because of all the dashboard assembly.
Dwayne, amazing video. I have a very annoying AC leak on my 97 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon. I hadn't even considered a schrader valve issue. Do you know where I can rent both the listening tool and the valve replacement tool?
Super nice video. The scrader valve repair kit is easy to find but where does one find the listener tool. What is the name of the device and where is it sold?
well all what you need to do is use dish washing shampoo and a sponge you foam it up if there was bubbles there's a leak what you are doing will take for ever, thank you for the videos I watch all of it
What is kind of silicone to use for fix the leak in the thermostat housing of a nissan sentra 1997.Show me the video .How to fix the leak in the thermostat housing. Thank you.
I have a tool for the R12 system but not for R134. Is there a converter fitting that will screw into the tool I have (it looks like they use one in the video)?
Amazing tool, you know i am in the process of replacing my a/c comp. [$99.00 on ebay] and drier on my 96 Grand Cherokee as my bearing was getting very noisy and i don't want winter problems/seizures-- Not sure why a/c never worked but it was basically empty when i hit the L pres. valve-- i might just replace both valves and all o-rings to be sure before i get it charged, etc. Would water mixed with soap in a spray bottle find a leak?
@narouspk When you charge the system, just ad watter with hand soap, shake it and use a windex bottle or similar and spray it on the a/c houses and if you see boubles there you have the leak. Hope it helped !
Nice video as usual,thanks ; i don't have that,(i have the electronic "sniffer") can you listen to the leak through a hose to your ear? I think so. Also,just some soapy water sprayed on ,would work beautifully,there;
What's the part number of the tool to replace the low & high schrader valves at 4.46'? Where can I buy this schrader valve tool? And much does it cost? Most mechanics are lost when I asked for this thing. Nice videos.

great video. i didnt have any idea on how to fix this kind of leak, great info. thanks
I’ve never seen a tool like this before I need to get the kit myself . Very neat . Wont loose any Freon ! I always just recovered the system then replaced them .
Great kit. I like it!
That was unbelievably awesome. Never knew there was such a thing. Ty
Excellent tutorial, thank you!
Excellent video. this is why I love utube. Thanks so much!!!!
That valve replacer is a fantastic bit of kit, looks well made and a very clever piece.
And not outrageously priced!
best video I've seen very well spoken . I just wish he could tell us where to buy that Schrader valve tool .
love that Schrader valve tool. I evacuated the whole damn thing and recharged to replace the low high valves and a gasket. if just the Schrader that is totally AWESOMENESS.
Excellent! Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks for making this video this is a life saver 👍🏼👍🏼
Great Vid well detailed for a new DIY. Thanks
Excellent video ! thanks for sharing
Words of advice: Verify that your new schrader valve fits through the tool first before removing the one on your car- found out the hard way.
Thank you for sharing your hard learned experience and valuable advice well in advance... your concern is highly appreciated.
I'm an engineer, and I wanna tell ya, whoever came up with that pressurized system Schrader valve replacement tool was thinking cleverly that day. I have a leaker in my TL which has never been de-pressurized, and I am GETTING this tool. Your vids are great!
City water department uses similar principles to install a brand new "tap" into a operating water line without shutting it down.
Great video!! Thanks for the advice!
wow this is new to me in all my years , thanks
Another way and less expensive, its to use soapy watter. I been using that and works well. Hope it helps. Thanks a lot for your videos !!
i still have about 10 cans of r12 and also the guages so i'm just gonna keep using r12 until i have no use for it. my other car also uses r12. as you can tell my cars are old and i'm always working on them. so i'm grateful for your videos.

Did you find your issue? What was it?
Schrader valves account for 80% of leaks.
Honestly I find the sniffer to be a godsend. Harbor freight for $50-60 excellent deal, you can find leaks in 2 mins. For the Schrader valves spray with brake cleaner and let dry for a while. Then test. Especially if you just added r134a and dye.
Cool. Just what I needed to learn!
GREAT thanks. You are the best.
My favorite is bit of spit on the index finger, touch it to the fitting and get a bubble, if the bubble grows it is leaking, if not wipe the spit of and replace the cap. Cost = $0.00.
Exactly 👍
Good video, very helpful.
Hi found this tool on amazon works great, Thanks again
Great video.
Awesome tip, gonna see if it's my valve right now!
that is a great tip. thanks for sharing!
fine tools you have ..... well done
thanks, for showing this video it helped me a lot.
Great Minds think alike!
I've been using dishsoap diluted with tapwater for years although I have an expensive sniffer and the UV die injector I still like soap bubbles.
Soap and water always works for me.....
Thank You so much for the tip on the tool Exelent .... :-)
Great vid,
Great Video. Thanks!
That's a great tool.I want one!
I could see that (hear that) listening ear device being very useful for residential A.C. systems also.
That's a great tip, thanks. Next time I get a leak like that I'll try to make it a video.
Great video great video thank you
May you live to be 150. Camera man/woman too!
That tool for swapping schraeder valves is pretty damn slick.
Thanks, very very helpful !
WARNING: The shrader valve is *NOT* the type you buy for tires. They are specially designed for A/C applications. You can purchase them at an auto parts store, just be sure you get the A/C ones, not the tires ones.
Soap spray bottle is the Best, fastest and cheapest way to find a leaky schrader valve!
I agree with your theory, but must be advanced with technology.
But this makes replacing the valve so much simpler.
@@mohammadrezarasooli1783 I was just gonna say that, nice work
Great video
Question, the caps that cover the shrader valves, are they not designed to stop any small leaks the valves may have?
Replaced all my valves, ty.
Nice video and gadget for replacing the service valves. Would you recommend a really thin layer of silicone paste on the rubber-like gaskets to ensure gas tight valves?
Is it magnetic? How does it hold on to the valve while extracting or installing?
Cool tools, both of them.
You read my mind, Thanks You... :-)
Thank you very much 👍
I have the mastercool 81490 but my valve gets stuck when I pull it out..is there another tool that is for a bigger valve? I have the next size up from the smallest.
nice tool, and field of dreams clip at the end, it is cool

thanks for your comments
Always impressed by info on your videos, but I was always taught to lube any o ring before inserting into pad fitting or schrader valve?
Very nice info
I need one of those schrader valve replacer where do I buy one

That listening tool is just like what the doctors use.
Do you think it would be a good idea to coat the O-rings on the Schrader valves with refrigerant oil? To prevent them from drying out?
Dwayne, amazing video. I have a very annoying AC leak on my 97 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon. I hadn't even considered a schrader valve issue. Do you know where I can rent both the listening tool and the valve replacement tool?
Do you think that the diy sealant they sell in automotive stores could do the trick in some cases of leakage?
Where can I buy the "Listening Ear Sound Amplifier"? I've Google it and can't find it.
Super nice video. The scrader valve repair kit is easy to find but where does one find the listener tool. What is the name of the device and where is it sold?
very good vid
I put water on the Schroeder valve and look for bubbles. It’s free.
That valve looks like the same type used on valve stems for tire wheels?
Thank you, !
did you use any oil on the stem? ty
Nice 😉
on them shrader valve you can take dawn dishwashing liquid to find the leak there. worked for me when you dont have the fancy tools
well all what you need to do is use dish washing shampoo and a sponge you foam it up if there was bubbles there's a leak what you are doing will take for ever, thank you for the videos I watch all of it
Where can this tool be bought from? Or is it something that is only found on the tool truck?
What is kind of silicone to use for fix the leak in the thermostat housing of a nissan sentra 1997.Show me the video .How to fix the leak in the thermostat housing. Thank you.
What does it look like when it's leaking ? Does it look like its smoking and smells when truck is running
I have a tool for the R12 system but not for R134. Is there a converter fitting that will screw into the tool I have (it looks like they use one in the video)?

Would water mixed with soap in a spray bottle find a leak?
Great videos. Always enjoy the knowledge. Bugs me that you have 55 thumbs down. I tell you some people are assholes......
@narouspk When you charge the system, just ad watter with hand soap, shake it and use a windex bottle or similar and spray it on the a/c houses and if you see boubles there you have the leak. Hope it helped !
Well this schrader valve tool works on a 1986 BMW 735i and 2000+ Japanese cars?
If not can you provide the right part number for above?
Thank you.
Thanks for the video. Is there any difference in the high and low shrader valves?
not in the valve itself just in the size and shape of the quick connect
can u clean the die off the valve and wait to see if any shows up??
where can i buy the tool from. without discharging the system
i still have r12. is there a valve removal tool for r12? excellent video.
this is a cool tool
Nice video as usual, thanks ; i don't have that,(i have the electronic "sniffer") can you listen to the leak through a hose to your ear? I think so.
Also,just some soapy water sprayed on ,would work beautifully,there;
I have propane siffer you can use too it turns green in the present of the gas .But my leak is at a two week time so its a small leak at most.
thank you.
Leak bubbles work too.
Can a stethoscope be used to hear the leak at the valve? I have one I sometimes use to trace sounds on appliances.
Put a balloon around it, watch if it inflates. Better than getting moisture in the system.
How much was the tool to take the valve out?
What's the part number of the tool to replace the low & high schrader valves at 4.46'?
Where can I buy this schrader valve tool?
And much does it cost?
Most mechanics are lost when I asked for this thing.
Nice videos.
