- I went to the Sunnyvale Rod & Gun club and tried my hand at target shooting. It was an American Rimfire Association event. It was in the unlimited catagorie were you can shoot almost anything. Met some cool people and learned a lot too. It's every 3rd Saturday.
It's been 13 years! Did you ever continue with this style of shooting? I used to live just over hill from the Sunnyvale range and could hear the gun shots when the range was active. I heard that COVID basically shut the range down as it did everything else. I hope it has returned to back to normal operation. A very nice and managed range by its members.
I have not been out to shoot in a long time. Between the kid and being married and doing other things I have a full schedule.
At first i was like 245 aint bad. Then remembered N50 scoring is out of 250. You were going for 2500 in ara lol. For anyone wondering. In 2024, the only 22 benchrest factory class rifle worth buying is the bergara B14. It beats everything most of the time
This set up is not meant to be competitive. It is meant to just be something fun to have some fun with.
@121stew I will have to get some when I use up my other ammo first. I seem to have better luck using some cheap Federal American Eagle bulk stuff. But so far I have only tried two brands so I will pick some Wolf and give that a try later.
@121stew I shoot using a custome clone Ruger 10/22. I was shooting with 40 grain CCI Mini Mags. The next time I did it I did over 200 points average better then what I first scored. I don't have the money to buy a new gun right now but I am thinking to get a target Cricket so in the time beeing I am going to work with what I got. I am going to try a new ammo though it's not liking CCI.
May I suggest a "CZ". If you want a Ruger to shoot, you gotta spend a lot of $$$$. Get a CZ trainer, lux, and toss a Leija barrel on there, a .10 cent Ace spring for the trigger and be competitive. I have a Ruger 10-22....somewhere in the house. I don't look for it now that I have a couple of CZ's.
+Ptown Rat Thanks for the advice but I am not looking to train for this. I just like to shoot every so often. This was a cool diversion to see where I stand and what some of the more pro people do.
That setup won't be competitive.
Or you have Doyle here. Trying to compare a several thousand dollar set up to 500.00. Listen to Doyle, he a SME on bedding, pillar, lapping, crowning, everything when it comes to Olympic shooting. Please spread your overwhelming distorted views an accurate rifle for 6000.00.
@moecat1000 Almost nothing in this Ruger is stock and the trigger is a Valquartsen GT 2000 that has an over travel screw and and little to no play in it.
I just shot to cards in a match this weekend. It is very humbling...i just bought a brand spanking new Kimber 82 with an antique but very usable Redfield 3200 20X scope and I was using match ammo. I am already looking to upgrade the rifle with a tuner and some trigger work. LOL, this is worse than golf...
They should have a 1022 class.
It is way better then golf and probably more expensive. Keep practicing and having fun. I don't go to these to win. This is all just for fun.
@moecat1000 It is 50 yards and you sit at a bench.
What rifle were you using
Oops sorry a ruger - try a kidd trigger and barrel
