Went through something a bit like this when I was around five or six. My father got me a pretty cool toy car with flashing lights etc and when my Grandmother saw it, she demanded that it was given to my cousin instead of me. She never loved me, had the attitude that whatever was provided to me should be given to others in the family. My father initially protested and said it was for me but she kicked a big fuss over it so ultimately he gave it to my cousin.
I then remember him coming to me and suggesting nicely to give the car to my cousin. Although I was a bit disappointed, I didn't scream or cry or whatever, I just reluctantly said okay. I wasn't traumatised by that but I am disgusted to this day by the attitude of my Grandmother and to a lesser extent, a bit resentful that my parents didn't fight enough for that. And that was just one situation.

@@cherylscotland1477 Hi Cheryl. I didn't mean for my comment to make you angry but yeah, there were quite a few incidents like that. My father was a great guy, he really was but sadly he was at times too blinded by the love of his family that they got away with saying and doing terrible things to us. My mother also kept being nice to them for many years even when they mistreated her thinking that they would eventually accept her but it never worked. I never had a good memory of my Grandmother, ever and it is a very sad thing (although not for me) that even after she has passed, she means nothing to me and exists only as a bad memory.
Fortunately my father had enough of their toxicity and told them to get lost. I'm glad he got there in the end.
On the other hand, my mother's side of the family have always been super nice to me.
