  • On March 27, 2024, Sarah McCammon, national political correspondent for NPR, visited SIU to give the Morton-Kenney Public Affairs Lecture.
Her lecture will was based on her new book, "The Exvangelicals: Loving, Living, and Leaving the White Evangelical Church." It is part memoir and part journalism which discusses the movement of people who grew up inside the evangelical subculture and ultimately left in response to its increasing politicization.
Ms. McCammon’s journalism centers on political, social, and cultural divides in America, including abortion policy and the intersections of politics and religion. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from Trinity College in Deerfield, Illinois. She began her career as a newspaper reporter in Chicago.
The Institute and SIU School of Anthropology, Political Science, and Sociology sponsor this program.
