Laird's HQ is within a couple miles of me. Cool to drive by and see all the old buildings and storage barns. Though they no longer distill there, there are still BIB storage barns that hold apple brandy. The brandy itself comes in different agings, up to the amazing 12 year old. They are now marketing their own ready-to-drink Old Fashioned made with their apple brandy, Angostura bitters and "natural flavors." It's actually quite nice, if a little sweet. I've gone through their line of Applejack and Apple brandies and love them. I'll attest to a little "Jersey Pride" here, knowing that it's the oldest distillery in the US, and provided Applejack to General Washington's troops at one point. This is a very historic area, with the Battle of Monmouth (see Molly Pitcher) happening nearby and many old buildings from that era still in existence.
"brisk fall spectacular" im gonna send my gf this video and see if we can try this out this weekend. i know I've been a bit of a hardass last few weeks but i really appreciate the 'unprofessional' quality of your videos.(and i dont mean that as a negative) you come off as a neighborhood whiskey enthusiasts and i love it!
No worries my friend I truly enjoy good conversation wether in agreement or disagreement. I take the “unprofessional “ as a compliment. The last thing I want to convey is that I know it all because I don’t. I just want to enjoy the journey and try to learn as much as I can along the way. You folks truly help me learn every day and I am appreciative.
Well done, that's an autumn harvest in a glass!!! Apples, maple syrup, walnuts, vanilla, rye - how about Autumn Harvest Old Fashioned? This is the cocktail I'd want in my flask if I were picking apples in an orchard with a bag of cider donuts in tow : )
Hi Kurt, I made this to your exact specifications down to the Laird's Bottled in Bond and "Fall Syrup" and WOW possibly my new favorite. You really have a knack for creating amazing cocktails. As the weather turns cold and rainy up here in the Pacific NW, I will look forward to seeing SLB's The Perfect Winter Cocktail!
I love experimenting with old fashion formulations. I just had one for a night cap. Mine was more traditional but I use brown sugar, oranges, and bitters. Evan Williams bib is the booze in it,, which is great, but the best ones I’ve made so far came when I used Coopers Craft 100 proof. I like them best with oaky and smoky bourbon.
Kurt, ya learnt me something... I did not know Brandy had a BiB category...nice drink, 6 ingredients.... can't wait to see what you do for a Christmas/Newyears Oldfashioned.... idea... Smokey Scotch, Autumn/Winter in Montana, people have their fireplaces lite up, and the lovely smokiness in the air..... Cheers.....
Looking forward to trying this. The list of ingredients in The Recipe, though, shows angostura bitters instead of the walnut bitters you showed in the video.
Looks tasty, It's something I would definitely order at a nice cocktail bar, but I just don't have any of these liquors minus bourbon of course. I'm not sure if I would use the others regularly enough. And I'm pretty stocked as well with mixing liquors, from having vermouths, lillet, compari, curacao, maraschino, regular brandy, chartreuse, etc. Still appreciate sharing this content though!
I've had 3 Old Forester offerings, all over 100 proof...ain't a one that isn't absolutely delicious...not sure if I'm willing to turn them into cocktails, though...methinks I need to find a good 'bang per buck' high proof rye for that...any opinion on a good OF Rye alternative, Kurt?
Yes for sure! Old Forester actually makes a good rye for 20.00. Old grandad bib is a high rye mash bill bourbon you may want to try. Wild Turkey 101 rye you can’t go wrong with.
You should call this drink a “Northern Spy.” Northern Spy is an old-fashioned apple variety that has fallen out of favor in recent decades.Northern Spy is a late apple- in season about now.
love the channel (esp. the "regrets" videos!) - this sounds like a great cocktail, and I'm looking forward to trying it - but I don't think "old fashioned" should be part of the name - maybe I'm being pedantic, but this just isn't an old fashioned
Nah not really. In the video I mentioned it as an old fashioned riff and I think Trent just rolled with it when editing the video. Thanks for your involvement in the channel, much appreciated!

I only make an Old Fashioned once every blue moon. I just watched this whole video because of how relaxing it is.
Thanks buddy I appreciate that.
Excellent, sir. First "whiskey tuber" that can actually put together a proper cocktail.
Thanks so much! My first passion is cocktails! Love prohibition style cocktails.

You got to have the doughnuts lol!! Love it thank you!
That looks like a killer cocktail! The "Apple Old Fashioned" name sounds good to me. You really elevate "craft" cocktails.
Thanks, much appreciated!

No Calvados around here, so I substituted Berentzen Apple Liqueur, and used Whistle Pig 12yr, very tasty indeed, Thanks for the recipe
Excellent ideas on the substitutions! Glad you liked it!
Just ran across this channel and I like it. This cocktail is awesome. How about calling it "The RUT". Good job fellas.
Sounds like a good name! Thanks for joining us!

Great choice! I love every once in a while jumping up in price range and trying great bourbons in an old fashioned.

Great idea for a Christmas cocktail! I like your thought process with a Smokey scotch. I have work to do!
Great video, the fall old fashioned looks good, I'd top it with a maple leaf
Great idea on the maple leaf!
Sounds delicious!
We know you can always count on the wife to bring you an apple from the tree 😅
You got that!!
Looking forward to trying this. The list of ingredients in The Recipe, though, shows angostura bitters instead of the walnut bitters you showed in the video.
Ahhhh thank you for pointing that out! I will let Trent know to change it.

How about an Old Autumn!
Hey I like that!
This works

What's a good alternative to Chateau du Breuil La Pommiere Calvados?
I am truly not that well versed in calvados but the other bottle I usually have around is Busnel.
Lairs Straight Apple brandy is unfortunately very difficult to find.
That’s crazy when I hear that about any spirits. In my area I can find it daily. Sorry to hear that.
“Old Autumn”
Spiced Apple Cobbler
I like it!

Wow Alex that looks fantastic! I took a screenshot and will start gathering what I need including the Tabasco!
Thank you!
@@slbdrinks You’re most welcome, my friend. Glad you liked it. 👍🏻
Can’t get lairds anywhere near me in Ohio 😭
That blows. I can find it any day of the week here. I just don’t understand why certain bottles are never available in some areas.
You remind me of Julia Child on this one. With the exception the subject here is booze, not food. Still very entertaining. Bravo!
Lol I take that as a compliment! Thank you sir!
Technically not an old fashioned...
BWG (basic white girl) old fashioned.
Sweet!
