This is actually a really good thing for car enthusiasts. if we all transition into a world where ride sharing, and electric cars, and not driving becomes a norm, we as enthusiasts will benefit LARGELY. Driveable cars arent going anywhere. we will still have our nissan skylines, bmw m3s, porsche 911s, what have you, but no one else will find a need to have them. thus, used cars that arent diamonds like a ferrari 250 gto, but instead a second hand bmw 3 series, will become cheaper. the great cars will only go to the people that will truly enjoy them, because now the normal people will have no reason to buy them. racetracks wont shut down because those of us who do love cars will still go to them and enjoy them. if anything we as a community will come closer. imagine driving down a road of electric vehicles and auto drive cars, and seeing a fellow enthusiast in a civic type r, or an old mustang (idk im bad at examples but yall get it). this is a world i pray that we get to live in.
And you but 1000hp in and flames are pooring our the back . 👌🏼👌🏼. Then I would get in front of 10 priuses and have a Cummins deissel turbo and role some coal.
Cars are a beautiful thing Cars are life Cars are something I'll never give up on Cars are a part of true love that makes a community and brings happy times in our life
Patrick Goza you are missing the point mate. I live driving too. Self driving cars won't completely eliminate driving for us. It will make the roads safer and keas congested which is exactly what we need especially since to most people driving is just a means of getting from a to b. So us car enthusiasts can leave it on for long road trips and traffic and for canyons and tracks we can turn it off and drive ourselves. One does not neccessarly have to replace the other. They can coexist.
Hasan Al-habbobi I'm just speaking from a personal perspective. I thing that if I do it once I may do it twice and before I know it it would be like eating pringles, I just cant have just ONE. I believe that if i did it once u wouldn't stop....
Patrick Goza no mate there will be times you want to relax and let the car drive like in traffic or a long road trip and their will be tikes you want to drive yourself like on a canyon road etc... So you won't be addicted to it.... Each situation will leave you wanting to use one over the other.
Never really liked the idea of riding with other strangers in such a confined space as someone's soccer mom van. Since you said it's for the future, that makes a lot of sense. Currently we don't feel this way, but future generations who can't be bothered to do anything for themselves will jump at such an opportunity.
As long as I get to keep driving myself, I think it will be great to get all the people who don't actually want to be driving permanently out of the left lane😎
I disagree with the fact that teens don’t want to own a car, nearly every teenager I know wants to drive and have their own car. It is a symbol of freedom to go where you want without relying on anyone. For my part, I will drive until I will not be able to.
Gordon TheMan me too Bro, they ain't got shit on takumi fujiwara 😂😂😂😂 if they ever get lazy Imma be like, when I was your age I had to wake up at 4 am every morning for 7 years to deliver tofu
As a teen, I never understand how people don't/won't enjoy driving. Once I got my license, I drove the family car and eventually bought an MR2 turbo (never gonna give it up) and driving has become more fun than ever.
If self driving cars are the future, then owning cars will become more much polarized than it is today. Most of the vehicles on the road in the U.S. seem to be for commuting. As self driving cars become what most everybody uses most cars on the road will be self driving. duh. However, a market for people who enjoy driving will still exist. So owning a car will be seen more like owning a boat or an RV or any other weekend toy. So maybe that means that the only cars that will be worth the most in the future today are the ones that are the most fun to race cruise offroad collect etc. But I suspect where you can drive may change a lot depeding on where you live. Major highways will eventually encorporate self driving lanes, and then expand them. Eventually making non-self driving cars either banned outright or to banished the far outside lanes only. In all reality I think we will we will see a blended approach towards self driving not an overnight change. Cars that can self drive will likely still have drivers seats for years to come. Parts of the map with poorly painted lines, very difficult terrain like white out snowstorms, or just good old-fashioned mechanical failure may still require a human to operation to complete. Possibly entire zones for some time that may be designated as requiring full-time human control until deemed fit for self driving cars to operate within them. So for now we still have time. But once self driving is accessible, affordable, and widespread things may change.
Morgan Bright in accounting certainly, but in real life what affects your wallet and budget is the monthly payment. For many people, they pay their auto loan, and trade up when they can. Inflation also has a cost, but that's not something you see either.
silvenshadow Just because it does not effect your cash flow does not mean that it is not an expense. Look at loan interest, it is the cost of borrowing that money.
Nicolas Cook If i ever have kids i'll make sure i keep around a few old cars for them to tinker with just to get them interested. As long as we keep passing on our hobbies to the next gen we can keep it alive.
i will never own a vehicle that will not let me take full control, sure autonomous is great and all but like you said, i want to put the hammer down and just enjoy the actual drive and escape everything from time to time.
Love how you said it in the end. It's exactly what it is. For us, cars are not only transportation but a way of life. It's just like people going jogging for the fun, and I'm like, meh I gonna walk if i need to get from a to b.
This is actually good for car guys like us... Fewer cars on the road means fewer cops and ppl like us can go crazy on the highways.... And petrol costs for petrol heads will decrease cause of carpool services 3:D the Time for being a petrol head has never been better
I grew up in a small town. I moved to the city where I knew no one. I was working full time and going to college. I don't have time to make friends. It wasn't until I had a problem with my car, an old Mercedes what use to be my grandmas car, that I found a forum with info on how to fix it. I then learned that a lot of people my age had these cars and loved them like I did. I started attending meet ups and car shows I learned about on the forums. Today I'm not very active on the forums, but I have 3 out of my 5 closest friends thanks to those meetups and car shows. I'd say my car has been more important to my social life then I admit. I wonder what a world of passionless people pods will do for people in the future.
No. I will never give up owning a vehicle or give up driving myself. I feel, on the autonomous arguement, were setting ourselves up for failure by how much were starting to rely on technology.
Martin Ramirez Have you ever read a book series called "the rule of three"? Pretty much what happens is a computer virus wipes out all the technology in the world. Cars, power plants, phones, essential services are completely shut down in a second. Creeped me out so much i decided to get only cars from a time before manufacturers started putting processors in them.
Somethingolden I haven't but I'll have to check it out. I have heard a couple of troubling things already though. I can't remember which manufacturer, it was for, but this guy showed how he could hack the brake system on this newer line of vehicles and lock up the brakes on command. I know people will say Im paranoid, but I honestly dont have trust in these "smart" brake systems. I understand there meant to stop collisions, but your making people into worse drivers. In the 13 yrs that I've been driving, I've been close to being ran off the road by other drivers, crashed into, but have never been in a major collision, due to the fact that im always observing my fellow drivers and paying attention to road conditions
Martin Ramirez Even worse is when the manufacturer has a bunch of morons write the code for these systems. I do believe there was a lawsuit a while ago where some cars had the throttle stick to the floor. The problem was that the code for the computer was such a mess that even experts couldn't tell what or where the problem was. And about hacking, were not just talking about brakes being hacked it's possible to take over everything else as well, steering, throttle and engine. And it's been done before, pretty scary stuff although unless some assasin hacker is out to get you it shouldn't be something tobworry about.
Somethingolden -nervous laughter-you hear that NSA. You dont gotta worry about us. We wont tell. 😂 all jokes aside, i still think its very dangerous how reliant, we've become on tech
I hope you know that Mazda and Porsche said themselves that will not go the fully self driving route, same for other car companies too. Driving still will be a thing in the future. Also 75 percent of people still want to drive according to a study
TFC I'm not trolling. I'm a millennial and I regard my hate of cars as a badge of honor. I laugh at carmakers desperately trying to sell cars to millennials, it's hilarious to me. I thought it was so hilarious to see Ford announce it's no longer selling cars. Fuck Ford and fuck cars. Expensive polluting pieces of shit.
i didn't get my driver's license until i was in my 20s, and at 27, i have yet to buy my first car. Here in Los Angeles, driving can be quite a pain in the ass- the traffic, the parking, not to mention the cost of gas, insurance, etc. As public transit systems continue to grow, and everything becomes more easily accessible, the convenience of being car-free just makes more sense.
This may be true for large cities, but definitely not for rural areas. You really need a car to go pretty much anywhere, because everything is so dang for apart. Ubers are very rare, too.
CharlieTownend Because unless you're talking about a GT, GTT, GTX or if you somehow win the lottery, you're not going to be able to afford one. Sorry but that's just the way these things work. A lot of people say "I'm going to buy X" but very few actually follow through on it. I said I was going to buy a MK1 Volkswagen Caddy and 1jz, RWD swap it, but I was never in a position to go ahead with it for one reason or another. It's just the harsh reality of it. Unless you're making hundreds of thousands a year, life finds a way to get in the way of your plans.
Shona *Yeah, but it’ll depreciate in the future and yes I’m bothered about the meatiest RB possible, but the looks will do fine, until I put money into the performance.*
CharlieTownend You're in for a shock if you think the R34 is going to depreciate. Even after adjusting for inflation they have steadily climbed in value for the last decade.
SSmaro you don't have to have one. man you guys are so one sided and narrow minded. Its not one or the other. We can have both. Self driving cars will make roads safer and less congested period. After all for most people driving is just a means of getting from a to b. But that doesn't mean is car enthusiasts won't be able to enjoy our own cars and drive them canyons and tracks etc. The two can coexist you know. Its not neccessarly one or the other. so you could leave it on for long road trips and traffic and turn it off for canyon roads and tracks etc
See the problem with that is one day the government will make it illegal to drive. Think of it this way, auto industry invents the backup camera, now it's mandated by law that every consumer vehicle have it. Something that was invented as an option to make peoples lives easier is now by law required. It never goes the other way. Ever. That is why this is alarming. To use a pun handing the keys to the one thing that ensures you can actually be a real free person by having the ability to go where you want when you want with no ones permissions is something that should be killed faster than crushing a cockroach. The mentality of safety first all the time has become so pervasive everything being done in the name of safety is literally ruining the world. Eventually you won't even be able to leave your house because it's been deemed not safe. Fuck living like some sort of cattle. You can have my truck from my cold dead hands and I'll keep driving it till I'm dead. There is no debate. My position is one of absolution. I'd sooner eat a bullet than live in a future like that.
The thing that always surprises me is insurance companies. Here in the UK, insurance is a legal requirement so you can't drive unless you can afford to pay for it, even if you already have a car. A lot of younger people that I know, haven't bothered to learn to drive because they know they won't be able to afford the insurance because it's so damn expensive. This brings me back to my original point; insurance companies keep hiking up prices for younger drivers but they are literally just putting off potential customers from ever bothering to learn. These people who don't bother learning when they're young simply won't care enough to learn later in life, as can be evidenced by my mother; she learned to drive automatics and only holds an auto licence (there are tiers of licence here). She could learn to drive a manual so that she can buy her dream car, a Jaguar MK2 (and it'll be cheaper because automatics are so rare in old sports cars), but she simply cannot be bothered because she knows that she'll have to learn so much just to pass, let alone the cost of learning. Essentially, what I'm saying is that car insurance companies are going to kill their own business because they're too stupid to realise that their own prices are far too high and rising.
Love your videos and I agree on all fronts. One thing you didn't touch on that is contributing to this disappearance of the car is that many car companies are simply not providing good "value for money". There are far too many over priced offerings from all countries and producers. With the decline in new car sales (even with the BS subprime loan market propping up new car sales) it seems as though people are finally starting to take notice and speak with their money, which is one of the biggest reasons used car sales are strong. Our american car companies are some of the worst offenders. So many people seem surprised that Ford decided to stop selling cars. Outside of the ST, RS & SHO trims of the Fiesta , Focus & Taurus respectively, the mid and entry level trims are cheap and not worth the money charged. Unfortunately the failures of the decision makers on the boards that run these companies will only effect people like us with loss of market share and jobs. They'll learn whens its too late, like they always do.
True, in the country we drive side by sides on the weekends and have everything ordered to the house. I car pool to work, I hardly drive like mom and dad did.
in case you were wondering small town car ownership among teens is still very strong, almost everyone in my graduating class has a licence and about 85% of people have their own vehicle
Living in Cali is expensive regular gas being almost $4.. and race fuel being $10 I’m spending $100+ a week just on gas, my insurance isn’t bad at all $30. But if anyone doesn’t have that motivation to get up and get paid to get something they can be proud of that’s not their fault, it’s the way they were raised. My parents always left me to be independent because of my choices during high school. Now I’m 24 but got everything I’ve always wanted, dream car, house, family but because I was taught a life lesson. I hope this never ever happens. Cars and driving are one of the best things this ugly world has and if they defile it like that it's not even worth it

Nope, I would never use self driving vehicles,I love to drive to much.
Patrick Goza do what twice sorry?
Hasan Al-habbobi use a self driving vehicle
Patrick Goza no mate there will be times you want to relax and let the car drive like in traffic or a long road trip and their will be tikes you want to drive yourself like on a canyon road etc... So you won't be addicted to it.... Each situation will leave you wanting to use one over the other.
This is.. by far the most important video you have ever posted.
My lil brother hates to drive, while I’m over here loving every single mile.
New cars suck, just don’t buy a new car and you don’t have to worry much about depreciation.
I disagree with the fact that teens don’t want to own a car, nearly every teenager I know wants to drive and have their own car. It is a symbol of freedom to go where you want without relying on anyone. For my part, I will drive until I will not be able to.
Exactly, all my friends and peers are either driving already or wanting to drive.
I will have to buy a car one day, because in Europe you get nowhere if you don't have one

Gangrel115 new cars are becoming trash
Gangrel115 Used cars are cheaper, even if only used for a couple thousand miles.
TLDR only buy a fun car
Depreciation is not a cost. A Yaris is not an investment. You cant look at it like this unless you are buying collector cars as an investment.
As bookkeeper, depreciation is a cost.
Never never ever will i use an autonomous vehicle!!😒. Driving a manual transmission car is what i live for!! And that will never change. 🙃🙃

I am so sad that future generations won't get to experience the beauty and sheer fun that is driving and customizing a car
Nicolas Cook If i ever have kids i'll make sure i keep around a few old cars for them to tinker with just to get them interested. As long as we keep passing on our hobbies to the next gen we can keep it alive.

Love how you said it in the end. It's exactly what it is. For us, cars are not only transportation but a way of life. It's just like people going jogging for the fun, and I'm like, meh I gonna walk if i need to get from a to b.
But how can my car depreciate when I paid for it in cash like 10 years ago ?
Mike Arredondo can you get the amount you paid for it back today? No? Depreciated
Terruhcutta if I where to sell it right now probably could get more then I paid for collectible
This whole video was based on new cars, not used stuff that has already taken the hit of depreciation.
You can use the extra money to pay for punctuation. 🤣
Mike Arredondo but how can a car I paid $0 for depreciate?
This is actually good for car guys like us... Fewer cars on the road means fewer cops and ppl like us can go crazy on the highways.... And petrol costs for petrol heads will decrease cause of carpool services 3:D the Time for being a petrol head has never been better
i don't even trust in my microwave, and it has only one job. Autonomous car? Hopefully i will never use one!
I can sympathize with that comment.

Also 75 percent of people still want to drive according to a study
definitley not "inevitable" rideshare companies just want to bully us into not driving
I love driving, so even when that does come out I'll be driving my self where ever I need to go
I don't understand people who have no interest in cars. they have no souls and should be burned at the stake.
Sam Karr They should be put in camps to learn way!
Shhhh, more roads for the petrol heads and less traffic
Cars are stupid, expensive, polluting pieces of shit. I'm a millennial and I hate cars.
David in Suspenders nice troll
I’m not even a senior yet in high school and I’m still awaiting my road test in July, yet I’ve already had 2 different cars lol
This may be true for large cities, but definitely not for rural areas. You really need a car to go pretty much anywhere, because everything is so dang for apart. Ubers are very rare, too.
*Who cares, I’m still gonna buy an R34.*
CharlieTownend No you're not.
Shona *How am I not?*

Thankfully
Yeah, I see that happening, Josh. I wanna drive no matter what though. I don't know about the life or death thing but yeah
If you are not willing to die for what you believe in you can never hope to expect that it will ever truly be yours.
YES I AGREE! The future of transportation is all about automation and sharing platform service.
$600 a month is way too much for a teen.
If you really have an annual income on $7200, then you shouldn’t even be thinking about car ownership
I support public transport.
More public transport > less traffic > more fun 🤘
They can take our piston and wankel engines, oh wait, they can't as long as us petrolheads are here
we are going to run out of countries to destabilize sooner or later
I don’t care about value! Your not getting me out of my car
You're*

This new Gen is being sheltered and comforted and seeing how everything is so easy online now they don’t feel the need to work extra for anything.
