Their scrambled egg .... too good. Another great video Tim.
Imma be honest, I have been more shocked at first world 5-star hotels than third world 5-star hotels. The quality of cleaning crews in poorer countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam is TOPS!
Hey Tim, are you ever going back to the "cheaper" places? The more luxury stuff is nice! But I really miss the more budget options. I'm still enjoying the videos! Keep it up nonetheless. I'm just wondering :)
They could spray that mattress with lemon juice, sprinkle over with bicarb of soda, spot-scrub at the stains with a paste mixed from lemon and bicarb, vacuum it thoroughly, go over it with a steam cleaner, then put a cotton sheet on top and iron over it to dry it and draw out dirt onto the cotton sheet.
I was thinking roughly the same thing. I used to work at a 4* hotel and when it was quiet they used to close 5 rooms every week and do a proper deep clean of all those rooms from bedding, mattresses, sofas, curtains, etc. it's not difficult.
Doesn't lemon and baking soda cancel each other's effectiveness out? You can just make a paste from water and baking soda, yeah? Or hydrogen peroxide the stains, then sprinkle baking soda over top to dry it out.
@@aliciab33 In theory they'd cancel each other out, but in practice they seem to work well together. Yes, other things work, I think a paste of water and baking soda would work. There's also white vinegar and baking soda, but that's smelly.
Despite a few bad marks (yuck sofa and mattress), I thought this was a really beautiful place--that room was stunning upon entrance and looking in from the balcony. Loved the "parliamentary" hallways. I can't believe the amazing scenery, all that vast windswept space. I love the wild places. For this place: must love fog! Appreciation from California.

You are 100 percent correct. I noticed that immediately, Out side on the deck too. Sometimes things build up. If anything, A hotel that can’t keep light bulb maintenance up , what else is not being maintained. Especially in this day and age of LED bulbs. I have done 20 cruises , on all different lines. And both times on Carnival, many light bulbs out everywhere . It’s not just one or two . So when ever you see a ship in duress , it is not surprising its one of there ships. I do know how much more use they get than a hotel.
Hi bud, wouldn't be happy food coming up uncovered, I've been in hotels where they come up in lift with other guests, say no more me thinks 🤮. Great vid.
We agree the sofa definitely should have been replaced. And once this happens, it’s unfortunate, but it seems that people will start looking for every little imperfection after that. You can be sure that you have slept on many stained mattresses in the past. Hotels need to start using stain-resistant mattress covers, that they can remove and launder. That being said, all your other complaints are somewhat trivial. To redo wallpaper, repaint rooms, recarpet rooms, and maintain an older hotel to meticulous standards, you would have to hire a lot more staff, and your room rate would have to go up several hundred to several thousand pounds, depending on room size and location. We all need realistic expectations. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if people took care of these rooms? We have seen so much damage done by guests. We take our own disinfecting wipes wherever we go, across the globe, and yes, we have had to use them in several presidential suites.
That was reflected in the price, haha! Another $700 per night to stay in the lighthouse, but it looked a lot nicer than the p-suite. I'm glad we go to see it!
I kept thinking about the poor people abused by Trump to force them off that farmland. Called their (perfectly respectable) farmsteads "pig stys", blocked their views of the sea with spillage, etc. Vile behaviour
@@neilgodwin6531 that’s exactly what I was thinking about!!! The filthy rich pig that forced his gaudy hotel and golf course on the people who truly loved and cared for the land and its ecosystem. And he had the audacity to say the farmers homes were pig stys! 😖 I have no respect for some people! Never did never will.
I’ve stayed there. It’s a lovely building but many parts are shabby within. The rooms are not remotely cosy. BTW there’s nothing antique about any of that furniture. It’s all ready-made “hotel” furniture - copies of old styles made to look old but covered in thickly sprayed on varnish layers so that it lasts for years before they toss it out and buy some more of the same.
Okay I’ve watched this video or should I say attempted to like 9 times now I’ve not even gotten 5 -7 minutes into it before falling asleep ! Ur videos are so calming but you’re voice relaxes me that much I’m out like a light 😂😂 I do the same with David Attenborough . Right 10th attempt see if I can get past that stained mattress ….
You can tell that when Trump Turnberry opened that there was great thought to design and quality materials. It is unfortunate that they don’t do a deep cleaning which would include steaming the furniture and carpets. You have stayed in many 5 star hotels in Paris, Dubai, LA, Las Vegas, London, etc that were in much better condition and so much cleaner. The dirty mattress, stains on the furniture and carpet, old couch and grimy tv remote wound not be tolerated in many other 5 star hotels. Turnberry is a beautiful property but the cleanliness is not 5 star at all.
Stains on mattress are probably beer, I know a lot of men drink on bad and in bed. Hotel in Dubai , Abu Dhabi are cleaner because they are a few years old. Go there in 50 years and compare. I always blame guests for any kind of problems.
@trainsplanesandotherthings5187 What is shitty about his golf courses? Trump brought infrastructure to Scotland. He employs thousands of people in his golf courses Unless you live here in Scotland........ You do sound bitter.
A lot of the "old furniture" in hotels are not antique but really good reproductions. I coworked with an interior designer on a good few 5star hotels and learnt a lot about keeping the costs low but still looking good.
My wife and I spent our honeymoon in the Lighthouse Turnberry and our oldest daughter Fanny was conceived there. Ailsa Craig is beautiful when the mist clears.
Having lived in America for 27 years now, those cottages are like houses I see all over New Jersey. Cookie cutter and nothing special. I’ve seen lots of new builds very similar where they mostly look the same and they’re just massive. They’re more beautiful on the inside when people put their personal touch on them. It’s quite strange as to how much my perspective has changed after living here for so long. When I first moved from England I was wowed by everything I saw. 😅
I was concerned about the fact that the food was not covered, I will be worried about that, they would have to walk from the restaurant kitchen to your room with foods that had no cover on, I had food poisoning in a hotel years ago and I'd pancreatitis, so I would be a bit worried about that!
That grossed me out aswell, considering how over the top everything else is you'd think they'd splash out on nice glass covers. Such a waste, all of that put out just to go stale. But then again I'm not surprised, whole place lacked it hygiene and reeked of gluttony greed, distaste, sums up trump pretty well😂
Clearly, housekeeping needs a good “housecleaning” themselves, no room for shorty work However, I love old, vintage, antique furnishings! The key: if children are present, a locked terrace door with hidden key is essential to safety

Imma be honest, I have been more shocked at first world 5-star hotels than third world 5-star hotels. The quality of cleaning crews in poorer countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam is TOPS!
the inflation of stars in the West is almost like in Northern Africa, sad.
Gorgeous hotel Tim so glad you finally went to Scotland I've been suggesting it to you in the comments for a while ❤
Hey Tim, are you ever going back to the "cheaper" places? The more luxury stuff is nice! But I really miss the more budget options. I'm still enjoying the videos! Keep it up nonetheless. I'm just wondering :)
next week ;- )
They could spray that mattress with lemon juice, sprinkle over with bicarb of soda, spot-scrub at the stains with a paste mixed from lemon and bicarb, vacuum it thoroughly, go over it with a steam cleaner, then put a cotton sheet on top and iron over it to dry it and draw out dirt onto the cotton sheet.
Very interesting❤
I don't think he's their to do that
Portillo red wine from Mendoza, Argentina 💓 Not on the price list but on the bookshelves. An excellent one, so proud of our wines!
Should have provided fresh milk in a fridge - UHT sachets in the presidential suite?? Naff. It is not a Travelodge.
@@poppyland74 yes, uht is disgusting.
Very true
There are NO presidential suites!!! They're just 4 suites to choose from - the best is the lighthouse suite
Can get a small pint for a quid. Absolutely no excuse to not have fresh in the fridge.
I don't really care about hotels but I keep watching these just because of Tim
Thanks
Gorgeous hotel, and nice review Tim with your usual inspections.
My Alexa is below my TV, so the definition of Walk With Me Tim ( a jolly decent chap btw) was being given as a sort of surreal stereo experience 😁I loved it haha. Keep up the great work Tim I thoroughly enjoy your no-nonsense content.
HAHAHA, that's so meta! :D
Have to say Tim it all looked a bit tacky stained beds etc. Probably was beautiful in its day.
As an ex maintenance manager for a huge hotel, how dare they have those chandeliers and not ensure all bulbs are lit and none have blown... humph ...
What about that outside light on the face of the hotel
i did think the same lol
I noticed that too
Nowadays workers don’t care much. And guest are bad too. Everyone eats in the room , stains everything , leaves garbage on the floor.
You should visit the Cromlix hotel whilst your are there. I’m a massive fan on Andy Murray. Thank you love your videos
Hi bud, wouldn't be happy food coming up uncovered, I've been in hotels where they come up in lift with other guests, say no more me thinks 🤮. Great vid.
room service has their own separate elevator away from guests
@@OscarDavidson-i4rYou've stopped here?, must be nice. I still don't want my food exposed for such a long journey, even in the corridor.
5 star. The food should definitely have been covered. Without question.
The Management team should be fired!
someone should tell Trump!
@@speedbird737 Maybe that's his usual standard
This hotel as always lost money . The one in Aberdeenshire as well .
@@Jan-iq5sm I wonder what the investors think ..the same as his other 'investment 'opportunities I would imagine
@@noramartin96 It’s not. Trump properties are immaculate and their service is exceptional. There’s a management problem there, definitely.
It's Scotland where l come from ❤
Oh wow..i would have picked the lighthouse suite over the "presidential" suite...(sans dead floor flies)..the view is incredible!
That was reflected in the price, haha! Another $700 per night to stay in the lighthouse, but it looked a lot nicer than the p-suite. I'm glad we go to see it!
Blood dries brown. That looked like wine to me
Reminds me a bit of grand old hotels you have reviewed that have been run down. Scottish landscape cannot be beat.
I remember this, if theres a golf course with it it caused a big stink when he was building or getting permits.
I stayed at the lighthouse in 2002 the restaurant was amazing , and was a fraction of the price, omg it’s filthy on closer inspection yuk
You killed me with the Haggis for breakfast. Everyones Comments Are On Point.
So the 'antique' furniture is fake !!... just like the owner !!
@@trevorhalliday793was wondering if anyone was going to mention that… 😂
Is there any large 5 star hotel that has antique furniture in the rooms?
@@Craig-ls6rv The Balmoral
@@davedoogan6650 Didn’t see much in Tim’s room when he stayed there ( for £1500 a night! ) Perhaps the larger suits have some.
Room was nice ... nothing that cant be fixed tbh 😂❤
Part from the dead flies the Lighthouse is just WOW 🤩
Did they fix that Poor old lady's water line that Trump broke when they forced people off the land to build his shiity golfcourse ?
BINGO!
@trainsplanesandotherthings5187 What is shitty about his golf courses?
Trump brought infrastructure to Scotland. He employs thousands of people in his golf courses
Unless you live here in Scotland........
You do sound bitter.
The golf course was built in 1902.
Too much information thanks😂
🤣
@@dubski_01 eew
TMI about the daughter there!😅 but must have been nice for you guys
TMI bro
Welcome to my part of the world. It made me feel homesick seeing ailsa Craig in the background (the massive rock in the sea).
I prefer the light house Tim.
Cozy. I don't care about the fog.
But then again i am from singapore.
I have no idea what will the fog make me feel😂😂😂
The dead fly brigade was Omen-y! 😂
My memory is those cottages were built to sell to locals, seems like they didn't sell. Probably priced out of the local market.
@@RichardMcGrath why am I not surprised by that fact?! 😉
What amazing set of houses , hotels . Very impressive indeed .
I always get excited to see a notification from you, your videos are so pleasant and interesting to watch. Thank you for the great content ☺❤
Couch looked on point, correct color palette. The criticisms would be more suited for a private residence.... not a hotel even of this caliber.
But then again I'm not surprised, whole place lacked it hygiene and reeked of gluttony greed, distaste, sums up trump pretty well😂
I stayed there in the 70’s, back then it was a British rail hotel and was really first class
Complaining it took 20 mins for room service. What were you expecting a microwave meal?
Clearly, housekeeping needs a good “housecleaning” themselves, no room for shorty work
However, I love old, vintage, antique furnishings!
The key: if children are present, a locked terrace door with hidden key is essential to safety
Sad how such a beautiful hotel can offer a Presidential suite that isn't up to scratch. Great review Tim.
Great video Tim lovelly hotel breakfast looked amazing😂
