Unfortunately, this wasn't the video i planned on filming as i booked a night in the lighthouse! but because of electrical issues, i was not allowed to stay there!
This is a hotel review nothing more ;-)
Glad you were able to still get a video made! Look forward to watching.
@@WalkWithMeTim you'll have to go again Tim, xx
I reckon they got tipped off as to who you are and got upgraded
Appreciate that, afraid you couldn't pay me to stay there though.
@@jokerdanny9255 I thought this too, it’s suspicious that the electrics were working fine the next day. But if they did know you would have thought with some discreet added extras.
I worked there for six years Pavarotti stayed in that room I took his bags up
ahh so it was Pavarotti that crapped and peed the bed. fair enough!
That is very cool. I would have been so nervous. 😬
Once he figures out he just abandoned more than half of Americans maybe he will reevaluate his elite privileged position.
How fab to meet Mr Pavarotti 🎉
Pav would have been all our guesses. “A big singer”,,,,who else could it be? lol.

Old furniture or old-style furniture ?

The Alexa bit was great!
I love Alexa's British accent too!
Alexa gives a different summary in the US. Interesting there's a difference.
Trump Turnberry is an impressive building, from outside when the light is fading it looks even more impressive with all of the lights on and chandeliers twinkling.
It must need so many staff as it's huge and the bungalows outside need housekeeping too.
Everything Trump does is impressive.
@@frankgraham1996 Indeed the state of his rooms are a reflection on him. It seems ok from a distance close investigation proves otherwise.

I would never comment negatively about scratches on antique furniture. The pieces were gorgeous just as they were, and I bet they have some interesting stories to tell!😊
You gave them a goldmine of feedback. I hope they took your advice and at least do a deep cleaning and replace that sofa and mattress if they're not going to do an encasement. Beautiful building and facilities.

Stayed in that very suite in the early 90s when i was about 12 Tim. My Dad won a competition on Capitol Gold radio to go watch the seniors British open golf tournament. Got a private jet from London, chauffer to the hotel, vip tickets to golf, met the players and even had lunch with them. And i got my very first hole in one on the hole to your right at the end of the vid. Admittedly it was a pitch and put course but i was a happy lad haha. Long time ago so i cant remember much now but i do remember it being so so posh. Great to see it again Tim, tx bud

Fab idea to lock to balcony key away, if you have kids balconys are a massive hazard!!
good point

When i hear "problems with electrics" I straight away believe its a staff issue. I've known a few places use the excuse for that reason. I quite like this hotel though! Thank you Tim 😊
Literally last week the GM of the hotel I work for instructed us to tell guests the restaurant was closed due to "mechanical issues" rather then accurately report that the servers hadn't showed up.
@@sophierobinson6041 I thought the same 👍
I think the room was comped to the lighthouse so that’s why you got a shabby room and Prosecco. I wish they treated you better dear Tim.
It never fails to amuse me, Tim's inability to operate switches and locks 😂
Looks a beautiful, grand hotel to stay at. Great spa and summer would be stunning when it’s light until 10pm.
The row of terraced cottages was originally built as staff accommodation and not guest residences. The villas behind that row were added long after the hotel was first built.
I have always wanted to see this Hotel. Thanks for sharing this info, great job!
It's a beautiful building. Shame about the stains though. The Lighthouse is lovely too.
I love the carpet in the hallways.. and the color combination in your room is really good😊
Tim, you have the right to request that the room be re-cleaned, and even to request a new mattress. You can direct the cleaners to wipe up superficial stains (like on the chair). I would suggest you do that before laying your head down. I would just tip the cleaners very well. At the prices you are paying, hold them to a standard. Your not being a princess you are just insisting on a standard. Love you and you beautiful family! Keep up the good work! Living the dream 😊
Exactly, for a 1000 a night they should be able to afford a Dyson steam cleaner.
Tim: Regarding the Scratched & warn furniture: i agree with you. Personally speaking im not a great lover of Antiques but my old Dad was a professional Antiques restorer. He absolutely loved Georgian & Edwardian furniture and from his expertise, i learned that ;- asides getting the whole thing dipped and re-polishing from scratch;- brown shoe polish was a great technique for disguising little scratches ! Just lightly sand the damaged area: clean with some turps, then build up 6 - 8 layers of shoe polish with maybe, a few coats of beeswax to finish. I mention this because if you notice; the really, REALLY fine hotels you've visited;- like the Dorchester just recently;- the Antique (or fine reproductions) they've got are in SUPERB condition. And IT'S THAT superb condition that makes all the difference. Anyway, as always a great vlog. Thanks mate. Stu.
Good tip, Stu!
Old furniture can be lovely, but when it's old, chipped, scratched and dirty, it's horrible. If they wouldn't have accepted it in that condition when it was new why on Earth do people think "shabby chic" is, well, chic? That sofa and the remote gave me the boak and I'd have been checking further for bed bugs. I haven't seen him check with black light. If he uses it, the whole place will light up like a Christmas tree.
@@jessbooth5495 thanks mate. Handy tip. When building up a wax layer with shoe polish, keep an eye on what shade blends best with your furniture piece. In other words;- don't take my tips as being an exact science. It's best to build up the finish UNTILL that moment you notice its blends pretty much perfectly with the original finish:- then beeswax the WHOLE PIECE for a perfect blended finish. Take care jess booth.
@ameliagfawkes512 Completely agree with you. I think this is perhaps the MAIN reason as to why I'm not so terribly fond of antique/reproduction furniture these days. I mean in many cases, Edwardian furniture in particular was beautifully & intricately designed. But all too often these days, we see tired, jadded & rundown - often shabbily updated Victorian buildings- pretending to be Hotels kitted out with horrendously grubby, beaten-up old furniture. Its like 1980s bedsit land. HOWEVER. You can COMPLETELY transform the atmosphere of a room simply by updating the flooring, repainting (obviously) and REWAXING an attractive, in-scale piece of period furniture. Add a few table lamps ... and hey presto. A high-end hotel room for the cost of WHAT ?? A tin of paint and some beeswax. Take care, stu.
@@SevenLight-z2u thank you for adding further tips. All the best ✨

Honestly the house keeping standards are a let down for these hotels . Dirty remote and dead flies ?????
I’m curious Tim! Do you tell the staff what you’ve found wrong with the rooms? I’m curious if the fix things after you leave!
Either way I'm sure they watch the video and find out anyway!
That view looks stunning. Thank you for showing us Tim
2:51 Just wait until Donald hears about this. He will not be happy.
The railings weren’t huge in terms of height on the balcony and relatively easy to climb.
I would imagine that was the idea behind keeping the door key on the safe so that younger kids can’t go out there unsupervised.
PS: The empty box on the decanter would’ve been for the cigars to go along with the spirts.
The balcony key locker is an excellent thing when you travel with kids
Exactly what I thought, it's a liability/legal thing most likely
@@hotsauce2446 Where I am from the liability is the thing of parents/caretaker I see it as extra care of the hotel for the family (could be based on real life events, does not have to be tragic) and I really like it. 👋
Tim you need to know my trick. I always ask for extra top sheets and put them over the sofa and chairs.
Same here. I worked in a hotel as a teen. I know things 😂
I have in fact done that too!
This has to be one of the prettiest hotels if the rooms were kept properly. I love the ornate antique look to it. The wood damage and patina adds to the antique feeling.
Tim, Sinks are in kitchens, basins are in bathrooms just for your information,
In all my life, I have never heard anyone calling a bathroom sink a basin.
Despite a few bad marks (yuck sofa and mattress), I thought this was a really beautiful place--that room was stunning upon entrance and looking in from the balcony. Loved the "parliamentary" hallways. I can't believe the amazing scenery, all that vast windswept space. I love the wild places. For this place: must love fog! Appreciation from California.
I’ve worked in the hotel industry for years. Agreed there are major issues to be addressed, (when you depend on your house keeping staff to report items for repair and replacement to maintenance, apparently there seems to be a disconnect.
I do hope you addressed the issues at check out so they could address the issues. Nonetheless, you should CC your UA-cam episode to Eric Trump, as I am sure he will welcome the report and training opportunities.
Nah we don’t help t3rrorists make more money

My Alexa is below my TV, so the definition of Walk With Me Tim ( a jolly decent chap btw) was being given as a sort of surreal stereo experience 😁I loved it haha. Keep up the great work Tim I thoroughly enjoy your no-nonsense content.
HAHAHA, that's so meta! :D
I stayed there before Trump purchased it and the room was tired and uninspiring. He seemingly refurbed all the rooms with the old furniture going to auction. Looks like the Presidential Suite was forgotten. Positives I took from the stay was the best ever hotel check in where the staff make you feel very special, the history of the place, The Alba cocktail and the best breakfast I've ever had. Their scrambled egg .... too good. Another great video Tim.
Whoever is in charge of housekeeping needs to do better... That tv remote was shocking, mine here at home is cleaned regularly.. No excuse for shoddy cleaning! I also agree with you about that sofa, it's horrible, and the mattress?? Those gripes aside, it looks beautiful..
That balcony view is stunning even with the fog.
Always await your notifications Tim!!! Keep them coming!! Thank you for all your content !
Awesome
Wow Tim, Alexa made the pin in this video. You are doing great, keep on doing what you do, we love your videos.
The hallways remind me of the movie "The Shining" for some reason. I suppose it's the historical nature of it. You can see the gold touches, something President Trump has always loved. It's a shame how grubby the room is, the hotel itself is quite lovely.
Amazing place, my mom and dad stayed and played there about 50 years ago now. They loved it.
They could spray that mattress with lemon juice, sprinkle over with bicarb of soda, spot-scrub at the stains with a paste mixed from lemon and bicarb, vacuum it thoroughly, go over it with a steam cleaner, then put a cotton sheet on top and iron over it to dry it and draw out dirt onto the cotton sheet.
Very interesting❤
I was thinking roughly the same thing. I used to work at a 4* hotel and when it was quiet they used to close 5 rooms every week and do a proper deep clean of all those rooms from bedding, mattresses, sofas, curtains, etc. it's not difficult.
Doesn't lemon and baking soda cancel each other's effectiveness out? You can just make a paste from water and baking soda, yeah? Or hydrogen peroxide the stains, then sprinkle baking soda over top to dry it out.
@@aliciab33 In theory they'd cancel each other out, but in practice they seem to work well together. Yes, other things work, I think a paste of water and baking soda would work. There's also white vinegar and baking soda, but that's smelly.
I don't think he's their to do that
Gorgeous hotel Tim so glad you finally went to Scotland I've been suggesting it to you in the comments for a while ❤
Looks absolutely stunning! i agree though for the style and price of the hotel, it looks like they have made a lot of efforts in areas but some most simple things they haven't. i don't know how they can keep everything so shiny and polished but not protect the mattresses and keep on top of stains in carpets etc. i would expect clean mattresses with protectors and stain free from 3 star hotel, as it just basic cleanliness.
You know you have made it Tim if Alexa knows who you are haha. You deserve all the praise in the world Tim. Love your content and you have a wonderful family. Always great to see Gaby and Casper in your videos

As an ex maintenance manager for a huge hotel, how dare they have those chandeliers and not ensure all bulbs are lit and none have blown... humph ...
What about that outside light on the face of the hotel
i did think the same lol
I noticed that too
Nowadays workers don’t care much. And guest are bad too. Everyone eats in the room , stains everything , leaves garbage on the floor.
You are 100 percent correct. I noticed that immediately, Out side on the deck too. Sometimes things build up. If anything, A hotel that can’t keep light bulb maintenance up , what else is not being maintained. Especially in this day and age of LED bulbs. I have done 20 cruises , on all different lines. And both times on Carnival, many light bulbs out everywhere . It’s not just one or two . So when ever you see a ship in duress , it is not surprising its one of there ships. I do know how much more use they get than a hotel.
You roasted the furniture so hard that i thought they were going to call the FD!!!
Reminds me a bit of grand old hotels you have reviewed that have been run down. Scottish landscape cannot be beat.
I kept thinking about the poor people abused by Trump to force them off that farmland. Called their (perfectly respectable) farmsteads "pig stys", blocked their views of the sea with spillage, etc.
Vile behaviour
@@neilgodwin6531 that’s exactly what I was thinking about!!! The filthy rich pig that forced his gaudy hotel and golf course on the people who truly loved and cared for the land and its ecosystem. "Regardless who owns the property" 😂😂
Have to say Tim it all looked a bit tacky stained beds etc. Probably was beautiful in its day.
Such a fancy hotel. It's too bad it was so dirty. I hope the next place is better! And the scenery is amazing!
You can tell that when Trump Turnberry opened that there was great thought to design and quality materials. It is unfortunate that they don’t do a deep cleaning which would include steaming the furniture and carpets. You have stayed in many 5 star hotels in Paris, Dubai, LA, Las Vegas, London, etc that were in much better condition and so much cleaner. The dirty mattress, stains on the furniture and carpet, old couch and grimy tv remote wound not be tolerated in many other 5 star hotels. Turnberry is a beautiful property but the cleanliness is not 5 star at all.
Stains on mattress are probably beer, I know a lot of men drink on bad and in bed. Hotel in Dubai , Abu Dhabi are cleaner because they are a few years old. Go there in 50 years and compare. I always blame guests for any kind of problems.
Did they fix that Poor old lady's water line that Trump broke when they forced people off the land to build his shiity golfcourse ?
BINGO!
@trainsplanesandotherthings5187 What is shitty about his golf courses?
Trump brought infrastructure to Scotland. He employs thousands of people in his golf courses
Unless you live here in Scotland........
You do sound bitter.
The golf course was built in 1902.
Thank you, I look forward to my visit!!
Alexa knows everything!
I stayed there in the 70’s, back then it was a British rail hotel and was really first class
Imma be honest, I have been more shocked at first world 5-star hotels than third world 5-star hotels. The quality of cleaning crews in poorer countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam is TOPS!
the inflation of stars in the West is almost like in Northern Africa, sad.
Couch looked on point, correct color palette. The criticisms would be more suited for a private residence.... not a hotel even of this caliber.
Having lived in America for 27 years now, those cottages are like houses I see all over New Jersey. Cookie cutter and nothing special. I’ve seen lots of new builds very similar where they mostly look the same and they’re just massive. They’re more beautiful on the inside when people put their personal touch on them. It’s quite strange as to how much my perspective has changed after living here for so long. When I first moved from England I was wowed by everything I saw. 😅
My memory is those cottages were built to sell to locals, seems like they didn't sell. Probably priced out of the local market.
@@RichardMcGrath why am I not surprised by that fact?! 😉

Best room in the hotel? Presidential Suite? There’s no way they’d dream of putting Trump or Pavarotti on a sofa or mattress like that! Low standards. Not cool especially after having the light house cancelled too. For me these things would leave me feeling very disappointed even with all the other lovely parts of the hotel.

Hi Tim ! That antique with the decanters in is called a Nautilus
I love the view from the balcony 🥰
Tantalus is the word you're looking for. A nautilus is an underwater sea creature or the name of an underwater submarine.
@ thank you I knew it was something sounded like that
Tim would make a fantastic hotelier! For obvious reasons...
The bathroom was nicest part of the room. The hotel carpet in hallway is lovely. It deffo has character
A lot of the "old furniture" in hotels are not antique but really good reproductions. I coworked with an interior designer on a good few 5star hotels and learnt a lot about keeping the costs low but still looking good.
For the really expensive prices the rooms should be immaculate including very clean mattresses, decent sofas that are clean and match the rest of the furniture and updated furniture that is not scratched. It`s a rip off for that price. I wouldn`t pay any more than £200 a night for that room. In fact I`ve stayed in rooms for £100 a night that are better and cleaner. I really don`t think 5 star hotels are what they used to be and are certainly not worth the prices they charge.
Good point!
Can you imagine either Donald or Melania staying there? Yet they are hawking it for $$$. No attention to detail. I agree with others, "electrical issues" are code for staffing shortages.
You've never paid more than £200 a night in a hotel, in fact I'd bet you've never ever stayed in a 5 star hotel.
