CLIMATE JUSTICE, COP27

- #XiyeBastida, the 20-year-old Mexican activist and Dr. Stella Nyambura Mbau, whose work in Sub Saharan Africa fosters climate resilience, give firsthand testimony of the 'Loss and Damage' that has finally been included in the COP agenda. With hosts Raya Salter and Jem Bendell, they focus attention on the need for #ClimateJustice.
While delegates give speeches, and industries parade their wares at the side shows of #COP27, people in countries around the world who have contributed the least to the climate crisis, continue to suffer. This year, the drought in East Africa severed food supply for 22 million people, while record monsoons in Pakistan took 1,500 lives and uprooted 33 million people. Mudslides inundated villages in Central America, killing dozens and displacing 560,000 people.
Expectations are not high, but the US is signaling a willingness to discuss the issue more seriously.
As movements worldwide focus on climate justice, there is an increasing need for climate activism to focus on solidarity among and with those most affected in the global South.

Thank you for being REAL!
Excellent presentations on the true climate impact, Loss and Damage and calls to action NOW, not tomorrow - very important part of the solution! Thank you #XiyeBastida and #DrStellaNyamburaMbau and #FacingFuture #plasticpollutioncoaliton #plasticpollutes #breakfreefromplastic
😢 This is such an important subject, yet I noticed so few people in the audience. An indictment of those with the power to effect change choosing instead to pontificate without commitment. Here in London I feel so helpless in the face of patronising indifference towards the suffering described by the members on the panel.
Thankyou Sir Meow!
Lack of audience = circumstantial....because.....
It would be environmentally UNfriendly for thousands of people to descend upon COP from fossil fuelled transport
You watched videos from a distance. Ye Tao has actively addressed, via Facing Future Comments, some issues raised about CLIMATE JUSTICE COP27
Much that needed saying has been said again & again & again ...
PARIS agreement ( accord )
COPs 24, 25, 26
This next bit is personal...I do feel cautious optimism that some of our leaders = serious about mitigating the worst of the damage that Homo sapiens has inflicted upon Planet Earth

The fossil fuel industry thanks you for focusing on reparations rather than carbon emission reduction so no one notices the uptick in coal usage. May you get the money you want because you will never get the money you deserve before we go extinct.
The video includes a concluding criticism of the systems and cultures that keeps increasing consumption and pollution.
'May you get the self fulfilment of the pointless disdain that you deserve before you go extinct.' 😀
😠 There are many other examples of campaigns to reduce carbon emissions. This meeting focused on a different subject. But they are not mutually exclusive.
this needs more coverage!! more people need to wake up! so powerful
Thankyou. Please share
Stuart is happy and proud of you💜
I thought of him at the end of last week... how he helped bring the more critical science and analysis to the world
Well said!

HelloI I cried watching..but did you know the vid is unlisted? I don't know if that was by design, but these speakers deserve to be heard. .... thank you.
We had to make some revisions, so took it down for a few hours. Thank you for your comment!
Why are there so few people in the room? Where are the leaders and people with the power to make the changes happen ? Why were they not there in the audience?
COP is different this year.
NGOs & activists etc are fewer than for previous COPs
It is necessary to limit our use of fossil fuels
Hence many who were at Glasgow ARE in the audience
BUT are watching and commenting (like you are) on their electronic devices

All the comments were to point. Jem Bendell was particularly insightful.
I can't believe informed people still think this is a manageable issue.
Markets aren't manageable?
Thankyou namnack for 1 short comment +

More talk! Just a few coins and a lot of promises will be thrown around. 100s of millions are going to starve, perhaps billions, as avg temps over the growth season in the decades ahead rise by 3-4 C. Unlikely that even with crispr bioag companies will be able to genetically engineer RUBISCO to slow photorespiration. Photorespiration always occurs in plants but ramps up significantly at temps over 30 C. For each 1 C above avg growth temps for C3 plants yields decrease by 10%. The US feeds about 900 million outside of its borders. This will change in the future. Abrupt climate change is already in full swing and tipping points are already at the brink of setting off an irreversible plunge towards HOT HOUSE EARTH. We are running out of time!
Most top level climatologists and others that have expertise in complementary sciences don’t disagree that there is anthropogenic heightening of atmospheric CO2. However, they also countenance that with the fact that climate is constantly changing, we’ve been a heck of a lot colder…and hotter, CO2 has been a loooot higher (in fact that was when the earth was flourishing!). The point being, stop handwringing, crying out “we’re all going to die if we don’t do something” like a crazed banshee and realise that there are long term strategies we can undertake to maybe mitigate sea level rise (ie, STOP BUILDING in risky areas, if you wanna stay in risky areas…do what Holland has done for 100s of years…build walls dohh!!)
If you follow the science, the Milankovitch Cycle says the earth was on its way into another ice age but because of anthropogenic greenhouse gases that’s been stymied…for now. Would you rather be living in an ice age or an age where we had higher sea levels but had breadfruit growing in the arctic??? Think I’m joking, do some research. But….PLEASE PLEASE STOOPPP SCARING THE KIDS WITH YOUR UNPROVEN MISERABLE NARRATIVE. ITS EVIL AND STUPID!!!
