  • At #COP28 in Dubai, Raya Salter and Carlos Garcia host a panel of experts to examine the impact of #MilitaryOperations on the climate. At a time when humanity needs to focus on the restoration of land and water, wars around the planet are destroying cities, lives and ecosystems. Peace is essential for keeping the climate system from catastrophic failure.
Tamara Lorincz tells us the amount of money that flows to military operations, and its resource extraction, is over two trillion dollars annually. While Dr. Amara Eniya explains how debt, compunded by droughts and floods that are the direct result of the #ClimateCrisis, is crippling many nations who struggle to provide for the basic needs of their people.
John D. Liu is the voice of Commonland, the restoration efforts that are being accomplished around the world, bringing back land and hydrological cycles.

I wish we could hear the message in this video as often as we hear it's opposite message. It's a breath of fresh air to hear someone say that we can't own the land, but that the land owns us, (just as we don't tell the time, but the time tells us.) We badly need to treasure our lives and living earth, thank you!

In Finland our current government has drawn back in many climatic and environmental laws and funding. At the same time they create huge unemployed workforce and its welfare is withdrawn, so they will be forced to work with much lower payment. Even without legal strike chances. And our healthcare is ruined by withdrawing most of its funding while it is already underfunded. While they give most rich lowered taxes. Government is not even saying that currently COVID kills most people. There is no governmental noticing about the killer epidemic. (You can calculate that killing the weakest means less mouths to feed...)
This government believes in green shift. Not because it is environmentally important, but because we can SELL more greenwashed products.
Same goes on in the USA and specially republican party is forcing laws that ruin environmental protection and does not care about climate impacts. Trump also gave huge tax cuts for billionaire class, that has highest personal emissions already.
It is pretty clear that rightwing parties just does not care about climate.
In current COP, there is around 25k fossil fuel lobbyists (total participiant number is around 100k). And the leader of the COP is oil company CEO that does not believe that oil produces any climatic harm (this can be found from his video). COP has been used to sell more fossil fuels (leaked documents).
The worst thing under COP is: the most rich, top 1-5%, are negotiating how to reduce emissions that they make in huge quantities vs. those who are not participating.
So, reducing COP participiants OWN EMISSIONS should be prioriticed among their sources of money, like fossil funding (that partially comes from political decisions as subsidices).
This is also why COP has failed EVERY SINGLE TIME to reduce emissions.

And due to Russian war in Ukraine Finland joined NATO. And that leads to buying more and more weapons that are fossil powered. Scaremongering within our current rightwing parties that are in our government leads to rapid rise of our military budget. Of course Russia, that is our neighbor, threatens us in every way that they can find without starting a war. Refugees are floated to our borders that are now shut. Hybrid operations against our infra and specially via hacker networks has risen significally. Even our underwater pipeline between Finland and Estonia was cut.
So threat for a war has risen. But at the same time climate is going haywire.
Our crops have failed in recent years, because of killer icing conditions in spring, drought in parts of summer and too much rain during harvesting season. Also fertilizer prices went through the roof when Russia stated its war. Some estimates that we even have to buy our seeds fro foreign contries in the next years, because our own crops are not replenishing our storing facilities.
And we bring lots of fruits and vegetables from Mediterranean area, that is currently under severe drought (8 years in some places) and has had flooding, forest fires and so on... (ie. Greece had one of its main products olive oil price rised from 5€ to 20€ during this year...) Not really a nice place to be depending on for food supplies.
Global warming is nearing 1,5C this year. We are at 1,43C for first 10 months. 5-10 years and we are climatically over that line. We may have already enough s*it in the atmosphere to rise temperature permanently over 2C (2,55C with aerosols, Hansen). And our emissions keeps on pushing situation even worse.
These all leads us over an edge where everything starts going worse.

Ha ha! Something about the "Military-Industrial Complex". We're doomed.... "Faster Than Expected".
