Hi mate! After living in London for 20 years and travelling the world the time has come to go back @ the end of the month to my Hometown of Cascais more precisely in Sao Joao do Estoril. I wish to explore the Comporta area. Have you been there or would you have interest in making a Vlog about it ? I heard that it has a lot to offer for expats.
Hi Olli, to be honest I haven't really visited Comporta (it seems like a lot of hype to me, but that's very unfair for me to say without having visited). I spent a wonderful weekend in Troia though.
Every video you do is very "simple" yet very detailed with context and informative. You truly adapted in portuguese society, which isnt easy for a "estrangeiro" to do, specially not coming from the Lusophone world. I love your enthusiasm, you know more of the history of places from Portugal then alot of portuguese themselfs, telling and knowing the history of the places and country and understanding the culture. The King Peter the cruel, i think the part of "Just" is because he tried to bring "Justice" he went like a "Justiceiro" figure, for avenging his lover, Inês de Castro (which is the portuguese real story of Romeu and Juliet), cruel... Well a reading of the guy may tell you why, but alot of the nickname may come from the treatement of the people who killed his lover and maybe Civil war propaganda.
What are some nice places outside of Cascais but still close enough to enjoy the Cascais area that have more affordable housing (say 300K USD or less) and nice lifestyle for Canadians? What are your other favorite areas in portugal to live? I grew up in Brazil and Portugal seems like a dreamy place. Brazil is extremely sketchy and dangerous though, what is the safety situation like in Portugal?
Portugal is one of the safest countries in the world. To be honest I am not that we'll aquatinted with places outside Cascais but look a little further inland towards Alcabideche and you may find something a little cheaper.
One of the weird things about Portugal that has always amazed me is the absence of safety fences. In one shot around 6:16 there are two vehicles pulled up to the edge of the ocean and they are amazingly close to the water. If the driver wasn't paying attention or if he miscalculated by a foot or two, the result would be tragic. I cannot understand why anyone would park a vehicle so class to calamity and I cannot believe that a safety fence does not exist in that spot.
@@ogator8642 lol thankyou for your reply, is exactly what portuguese love they're culture, love eating good food meeting family often nothing worong with that. About your comment wich l respect but is a bit irrelevant, because people parked there for many decades sea level no cliff. Portugal got around 1000 km sea border which is hard built fences and barriers all coast unless we called an expert Donald Trump ! I think you should focus in what portugal is great ! Nature, arquitecture, wines, cheese , pastries , food , Friendship and SAFETY ,what many countries don,t, have ! Enjoy !

I lived there in the late 70s. It was an amazing place to grow up. Just before the big building boom started.
thank you for the video.could you please whats the best to live in Portugal?
It depends what you want, how much you have and all your requirements... It's different for everyone.
A minha terra 😍Cascais❤️😘
Great video. Looks like my kind of place 👍🏻🇬🇧
Thanks for watching, Mark👍🏼
Aw, lovely. I have friends who live in Cascais.
Fantastic, do you get up to visit them much?
I wish to explore the Comporta area. Have you been there or would you have interest in making a Vlog about it ? I heard that it has a lot to offer for expats.
Hi Olli, to be honest I haven't really visited Comporta (it seems like a lot of hype to me, but that's very unfair for me to say without having visited). I spent a wonderful weekend in Troia though.
Great vid Nick.
Thanks JH!
Fantastic, thanks for sharing 👍🏼 and thanks for your kind words. Portugal has been good to me, it can be a lovely simple life here.
Cascais is wonderfull I use to live there when I was young
Wonderful!
Portugal is a beautiful country, I reside in Portugal, Madeira, and I work in a field. Mobiliária
Congratulations Hajer.
Thank
One of the weird things about Portugal that has always amazed me is the absence of safety fences. In one shot around 6:16 there are two vehicles pulled up to the edge of the ocean and they are amazingly close to the water. If the driver wasn't paying attention or if he miscalculated by a foot or two, the result would be tragic. I cannot understand why anyone would park a vehicle so class to calamity and I cannot believe that a safety fence does not exist in that spot.
They're seasoned fisherman, but I guess you have a point.
One of the weird things about portugal is the absence of safety fences.
What about the others ?

@@ogator8642 lol thankyou for your reply, is exactly what portuguese love they're culture, love eating good food meeting family often nothing worong with that.
About your comment wich l respect but is a bit irrelevant, because people parked there for many decades sea level no cliff.
Portugal got around 1000 km sea border which is hard built fences and barriers all coast unless we called an expert Donald Trump !
I think you should focus in what portugal is great !
Nature, arquitecture, wines, cheese , pastries , food ,
Friendship and SAFETY ,what many countries don,t, have !
Enjoy !
I really love Cascais.....great video
Thanks for watching Marck! 👍🏼
Any recommendations for where to stay for around 5 nights?
We might be interested in moving to Cascais and are coming to check it out.
Stay at any of the hotels around the Marina to suit your budget.
Nick, really been enjoying your videos. We are moving to Cascais from Canada for a year - is there an estate agent you recommend to help us find a home in Cascais to rent for a year? Much appreciated, Mark
Hi Mark, sorry I don't know that many people up there, for rentals.
My father was born in Cascais!
Fantastic Mario👌🏼
Please do a video on Lisbon for a fellow young twenty something south african looking to immigrate soon ☺🇿🇦🇵🇹
Hey Savannah, there's so much to do down here and Lisbon is a big place. I'll put it on the list though.
Nick, Love the videos, but if you love surfing so much, why did you choose the Algarve instead of Ericeira? What are the pros and cons?
Hey Charles, surfing is a pastime for me and if I could, I'd spend every day surfing, but there are other more important things in my life like family and work. Ericeira is amazing for surfing, but also a lot of localism.
@@AlgarveAddicts Nick, what do you mean by "localism". I am looking for a place to retire or at least spend 6 months a year in a quiet sea town, not rowdy like your description of Albufeira.
Localism is just a surfing term for being a little... "over protective" of your home break out in the water.
@@AlgarveAddicts Too many hardcore surfers instead of laid back ones like you and me. got it. Thanks should I be looking at Praia da Luz and Lagos area for expats and laid back atmosphere?
Sure, Luz and Lagos are great, but Ericeira is also a wonderful little town.
I’m interested in exercising the golden visa and making a purchase. Would love to talk.
I enjoyed your video, its beautiful, and meanwhile, o can practice my listening in English ... thank you and have a good one!!! I am from Sao Paulo, Brazil ... byeeee...
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Sure, Cascais is pretty - if you can afford it...
All the best from Sintra (20 km from Cascais)
True, every second car appears to be a Porsche...
Well done as usual
Thank you Robert, without you watching all my work would be useless 👍🏼
Great info! Canadian and would like to spend a year . Do you happen to know how if and how I could with visas?
Just a year is tricky. You'll get a three month visa waiver, but any longer and you'll have to apply for a D7 Visa, or maybe you can try for a study visa...
How difficult would it be to navigate around Cascais if you don't know the language?
Pretty easy, most people speak English up there.
Also Italian last king "Umberto secondo" spent there his life in exile after June 1946
Good to know, thanks for sharing Michele 👍🏼
Brian adams grow up there too
Brian Adams grew up in Cascais?
Yes..
He understands and speaks portuguese
Portugal meu amor...
Good ,muito bom cascais 😍😍😍🤠🤠❤👍
Remove the muzzle to eat the pastry.
Oh wow, now that's a good idea 🤣
Hospital Lusíadas is actually a public hospital payed from public taxes.
Awesome, thanks for sharing Ricardo. I'll make a note. It really feels like a private hospital.
My wife said it's pronounced "cas-skies". Thanks for the video, good stuff
It's looks so similar to Lagos doesn't it?!?
You're welcome Gary, and she'd be right👍🏼
It does a little... 😎👍🏼
Great vídeo! I love it! 😘💋
Thanks for watching 👍🏼

What is a good resource to find 3 month and more rentals in Cascais?
That's a great question, the only thing I can suggest is one of the real estate portals. Try www.idealista.pt/en
