Is this tuloktalimg to tulok on tulok’s channel or is this another barbarian also named tulok talking to tulok the Elden lord? Whatever the case I’m here for this multiverse of madness
No-joke, one hundred percent sincerely, absolutely fantastic Bloodborne analysis starts at 22:50. Damn, I love listening to Phil talk about Bloodborne.
Anyone that thinks perfume isn't a weapon needs to remember the last time you encountered a older woman that wears a lot of musk perfume. Walking past them can be enough to make your eyes burn.
that reminds me of an old Dilbert comic... "i wonder if i'm wearing enough perfume. i'd better increase the dosage until i hear some compliments." and she doesn't realize that her perfume is instantly knocking EVERYONE unconscious, from over ten feet away!
Sellen has beef with Rennala's approach to magic at the academy, but doesn't seem to have any personal antipathy over it. Even when she does take over the academy she doesn't harm Rennala, she just kind of scoots her chair behind a bookcase. If only anyone else in the lands between could resolve their feuds with such a graceful lack of war crimes. But I guess I can't really judge Marika. The hornsent grandam was ~already~ sitting behind a bookcase, so really the only option left was to do a genocide about it.
I like to think Rennala knew what would happen to Sellen and was like "Oh sure let me get out of your way, btw can you put a tarp down before you do your thing so you sorn scratch the floor?" Then just rolled her out of the way
@@TheMoogleKing93 I love Sellen as much as the next dear apprentice but I gotta admit she does not have a lotta foresight. “Oh lemme practice the branch of sorcery that turns people into rocks, I’m sure I won’t turn into a rock about that” like honey. Please. I’m begging you.
I gotta say, I too am LOVING the media literacy mini-video essays in the middle of the latest runs during the Scadu fragment farms and I really hope they become a regular thing (so long as you're also enjoying writing and recording them
I feel like the egg and juvenile scholars are supposed to symbolize Rennala's obsession with her family abandoning her and clinging to the past by trying to restart the family through rebirth. The only one who did not abscond to the Golden Order was Ranni.
That's probably right, and I don't think it negates what Phil said. She is trying to restart her family by adding something of her own (magic, scholars, whatever - representative of the Sperm) to Radagon's gift to her (The Amber Egg/Rune of Rebirth - representative of a fertile egg). It could very much be a trans allegory as well as a way to show her obsession with family
I think its worthwhile to point out how Marika's shame around her identity translates to her kids. She hid Radagon's and her own identity from everyone and we see miquella, melania, and morgott cast away pieces of themselves in one capacity. Ranni goes so far as to kill her brother and body to reject Marika's legacy and the identity associated with it. I don't think it's intentional per say but the story deeply reminds me of the experiences of queer people who grow up religious. Happy pride 🎉
Thanks for taking the extra time for the media literacy part. It was really good. Hope next time you focus on the cycle of violence theme of the game, as you touched on it when you was talking about Marika and her past trauma
The perfume I most want to drink is Basier du Dragon. I’ve never smelled it, but Abigail Thorn from four years ago described it as being akin to almonds, rum, chocolate and oranges, so that sounds pretty darn tasty.
DS1 - Anastacia being disfigured, Fair Lady being "monstrous" and the Dark Moon Knightess being disfigured under the armour. Anastacia has the whole questline with Lautrec killing her, only for us to kill him, return her soul (and speech), only for her 1st words after thanking you being something along the lines of 'I can't speak, for I will be blasphemous'. Also, she feels like a metaphore of S.A. F.L is surrounded by those who bear her eggs, and has Kirk doing her dirty work. She feeds on humanity. She is in constant pain and suffering, and is either blind or visiually impaired. The Bed of Chaos has been "punished" for trying to create new life (1st flame) and is referred to as the mother of pyromancy & Demons. Also, Gwyn sent his army to fight her for her harvesting of humanity, which was his thing. Seath experiments on women, specifically maidens (virgins), and accidently created Priscilla, who was locked up for her power. Dark Sun Gwyndolin was raised as a daughter and is now left behind to protect a kingdom that doesn't want them - much like Morgot. Dusk of Oolacile is stolen away by Manus (a big monster stealing the Princess?) And if you kill here in the future, Elizabeth, the motherly mushroom, dies in the past (somehow). Also, she is rescued from Manus, spawing after he dies, suggesting he held her within him like the golden Golem did. Quelana escaped her mother and is BEGGING the undead to kill her whole family bc they are suffering (not confirmed beyond The Fair Lady). Sieglinde is made her father's babysitter, searching for him all over Lordran to deliver her mother's final words. There's a thing with female cannibalism - the depths and blighttown are riddled with them (you know, the places that got locked up so the inhabitants cannot escape? For every other place's safety?) Also, there's the deal with the Way of White and Rhea being a victim of religious abuse.
I ended up slapping these on my divine horned warrior build and man I have no idea why I’ve never used these things before, they fit the build aesthetically and just plow through bosses
I'm reminded of another video essay I saw on Bloodbornes visceral femininity, and it strikes me as odd that I've only now seen two people analyze the themes shared of motherhood in a political/ethical sense. And I love it.
I also think it can be difficult to read for comprehension when the lore can be obscured through usual FromSoft methods. Like yes, it's there, totally, but finding the totality can be difficult for casuals like me.
You'll love to hear then that the underlying inspiration for Bloodborne is probably the story of Hunter brothers, who got famous by dissecting pregnant women to study the progression of fetal development: ua-cam.com/video/nh-sXU9Tk9E/v-deo.html
I just had to pause the video, go to the living room and tell my wife, "hey, I know you don't have any context for this, but remember the Renala boss fight from Elden Ring that I thought was so beautiful and affecting? OK, listen ..." This freakin' game.
Great video. The whole “it’s not just them waking up and ghosting” talk about parents getting cut from kids lives hit, VERY close to home. And your videos inspired me to do a Crucible Knoght build for the DLC. I got help getting the armor and sword, just fought Margit, and am about to raid Stormveil, and HOPEFULLY get a few more levels for Endurance and Str (I just hit the Faith requirement for the Greatsword, and only need a little more Endurance to hit Medium Load with it. Str is still 8 levels away though). Until I can use the Greatsword, I’m going Golden Epitaph sword with a No Skill Shield (or the Halberd I get for starting as a Vagabond, if I’m on Horseback or need the Charge attack to catch an enemy). Also working to upgrade the Beast Claw Seal so that I can have a Str scaling seal for Incantations (I wanna use the wings the DLC gave us).
I came back to this video specifically to watch part 4 where you talk about thinking critically about the media we engage with. That's why we watch you. You're silly while also being thoughtful. Great job.
