I was brought up in Horbury and later Leeds, until I was eleven. We would go to Wakefield every so often. The streets ad area remind me od Armley in Leeds where I lived. I recognise Wakefield centre a little!
What a wonderful soundtrack to a splendid archaeological dig into your past Bill . Truly wonderful ..really enjoyed this a lot . Your upbringing echoes much of what I and lots of others I guess from the same age group encountered . Marvelous
The nostalgic roots of time, they breath the spirit. Walking & waking subdued and not faking, for this the message is a past of beginnings a song waves beginning the light it becomes is the storm I have sung. Bouncing, reflecting ode to the binding frail past, a lock of hair permanent in it's cast, for ever to yearn an hour I burned,to smell it again, knowing from where it begin. Standing I stood, reflecting I could, seeing it now better I understood.
A lot of that is filmed on Westgate. It was ( and still is) famous for the 'Westgate Crawl' which is a Pub Crawl from the Redoubt at the begining then on up to the town centre. You didnt need a coat as the Pubs were so close together that you couldnt get wet. Unlike many similar streets most of the Pubs are still open . Only the Smiths Arms and Old Globe have gone but it still leaves about 8 others if you count the Black Horse by the Opera House as the last. What has changed is the crawl is done earlier ie starting at 4pm on a Sat rather than 8pm and finishing at 8pm instead of midnight . Its all us 55+ people keeping it going and we like to finish with a curry and get home to bed !
Thank you for the journey into your life,Bill Nelson.
Bill Nelson has always generated one-of-a-kind music and visuals for Humankind. Thank you to Bill (and his parents) for making this a REALITY.
Beautiful memories bill walking down the guinell looking at the big world

The bus station clock, the market stalls, the cathedral... all how I remember them. Thank you Bill.
