Operation ANVIL was the Allied codename for it. Dragoon was foisted off on us by Sir Winston Churchill. PM Churchill was the spirit England needed to keep going in those days, BUT his obsession with areas of difficult terrain for offensives was a handicap. Maybe his days as a cavalry man were too strong a memory.

There is detailed information on liberation of Nice french resistance started fighting on 6am at 12pm there was fighting all over 7pm germans abandon their position at Chateau allies bombs armaments at 9pm last germans leave nice at 11pm
