thank you thank you thank you ....I was going to get a Kraus single 27 inch workstation from Lowes. rona .
.any thoughts about Off-Center or Center Drain
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would subscribe to someone that does kitchens but since I have to add a complete new kitchen from scratch I find this channel extremely helpful and yes, very entertaining!! I am learning so much too!! Thanks!!!!
Haha. Thanks for letting me know Paul. If you have questions during the process feel free to ask.
My wife and I both busted out laughing when you dissed the corner sink! We have a corner sink now and will be ditching it with our remodel.
Absolutely agree with everything you say. I would get a single sink, and use a plastic tub that fits in the sink if i needed to fill it with water to soak dishes. Your comments about the corner sink made me laugh :-). Very keen to find out what material you recommend.
Hey Kien! Great to hear from you! Thanks for watching. Spoiler, I'm a fan of stainless.
I agree with the poster. Using a plastic dishpan in a large single sink gives the hand washer a rough equivalent of a double sink while washing regular dishes, but still have the capability of washing big pans and pots in the large single, an option that an actual double sink doesn't allow. Just lift out the dishpan!
You can do other things in a large single, you just have to use a dish pan if you want to soak dishes that fit in a double bowl size sink. If the drain hole is centered where the dish pan would block it you need to use a bottom rack in the sink to lift the dish pan off of the drain. You get the benefit of the large single when you need it and the benefit of a double bowl when you use the dish pan. I learned this in my double bowl sink when the basket assembly started leaking (not into the cabinet below, it just wouldn’t hold water in the sink and leaked down the drain). Instead of spending a lot of money on a plumber to replace the basket assembly when I knew what I really wanted to do was remodel and move the sink, I went to Walmart and bought a dish pan and sink bottom flat rack to put it on. Been doing dishes that way for a few years now!
I love your example of why a double sink isn't practical. I enjoy having a large, single bowl sink in either the kitchen or the laundry room to wash those few larger than everything else items.
A lesson I learnt from my last kitchen is - just because you have a dishwasher and don't expect to wash things up by hand doesn't mean you won't ever need to do it.
My sink was just a bit too close to the corner so I couldn't actually stand squarely in front of it. I wouldn't do that again. You're absolutely right to remind us of all the bing things we will need to fit in to our siinks even if only occasionally.
Hey! Thanks for the comment and insight!!
Another "best of both worlds" option is a deep double sink. My parents installed one and it is awesome for the handwashing folks who cook with large dishes. That's what I would like in my kitchen one day.
Thanks for the helpful tips!
I had to fight with my designer, but we are spec-ing in a big, DEEP, double sink for our remodel.
A bucket over a corner sink love it
I always had a double sink in my kitchen until we moved to our present home. I was pleasantly surprised at how much nicer one large sink could be. Plenty of room for large items. When we had to replace the old sink a few years ago, there was no question of going back to the double. In fact, we not only got a large single sink... we got a deeper one. 😁👍
Got to love those large single!! Thanks for sharing.
I bought a house with a corner sink and I didn’t like it when I moved in. Over the years, that dislike has turned into a hatred I can taste. There is nothing good about it and you hit the points. I am finally getting a new sink and location for it!!
Hatred I can taste! That sounds about right for a corner sink. Lol.
So you put into words how I feel about my 90 degree angled sink, thank you
just on time ....thank you so much for helping me make the best choice God bless you and your family
Cool! Thanks for letting me know!
I have a Kohler 60/40 split sink with Smart Divide and I love it. The half-height divider keeps small utencils from going down the disposal but I can soak a sheet pan if needed.
Me, too! Love it.
I wish I'd been offered a Smart Divide sink when I bought my new kitchen, and thanks to Mark for reminding me they exist. If I do a makeover, I'll get one!
Thanks so much, I learnt alot.I definitely prefer a double sink but when you brought up the work station sink,I am truly in love.i need one of those.i cut up vegetables and meat at my sink all the time and never knew there had the workstation sink.i live in Barbados. Never saw it here but I will definitely source one with my kitchen remodel...thanks 100%
Hey! Thanks so much for watching! I'm glad the video was helpful. Hope you find an awesome workstation sink. I really want one too. lol
I have an under counter single and half. I also have a dishwasher next to it. It’s great for rinsing off and and food prep. Also single double width sinks are frowned on in uk due to water usage.
Both of my grandparents had single sinks and a rubber maid tub for soapy water to hand wash ... parents had double (military base housing) - and a deep double in their home ... I seriously dislike a double because I cook ... really cook ... so I have a lot of big pans, cookie sheet, grills and canners to clean ... So yeah, I'm moving back to a single with a tub (ok, I have a double sink and still use a tub - easier to not chip cups and glasses when washing). Stumbled on your video from Jackie's ceiling fan video .... glad I did because I am starting to redo my kitchen! Enjoy your style!
Hey Thanks for saying hi! Appreciate the comment and I'm totally behind the decision to go with a large single! You should jump on my live stream sometime. Jackie is always there too!
Thank you!
Thanks for the detailed walk through! And thanks for the validation! My mom keeps a sink half full of eventually cold water, and it creeps me out!
Haha. Yeah I agree. Thanks for watching.
Double with a low divider for the win!
Our previous sink was a double stainless drop-in with a cheap faucet - 4.5" clearance between the faucet and the divider. Our new faucet is a high arch with a Kraus undermount low divider sink - 13" of clearance, plus a pull-out sprayer! I can wash anything!!!
I still fill the sink to wash dishes vs. running water to scrub. Also I do produce canning/freezing that requires two sinks. So that's why I wanted a double, even though EVERYONE says get a single!
And I do think rounded vs sharp corners is under-considered! The corners of "industrial" style sinks I've seen always look gross. I know I'm not a fastidious cleaner, so I opted for rounded!
Thanks for sharing. Knowing the first hand experiences of these things comes in really handy!
So much this… large single sink for the win.
I will have large single and if I need for any reason and extra basin I buy a lil wash tub to place in sink works 👍 great....ty for being so informative and reasonable to every subscriber...much success to you🛠️🔨⚒️💯🙌🏻🚢
Darlene, that is exactly what I do! If I am having a get together (pre COVID), and letting dishes sit, I will have a tub filled with water with soap to loosen the food on dishes that housed food since paper plates are used and tossed! Lol. But one sink is beneficial and useful. 👍
Thanks so much Darlene. Although I have my opinions, I want everyone to be able to get something from watching.
I love love love my deep single bowl sink. We bought a house under construction and got to pick some of our finishes and I chose the big sink. It is no longer a problem washing my large cast iron dutch ovens and large pans. If for some reason I need to soak a few items I just use a small plastic dishpan in the sink and fill it with soapy water and I can still use my sink while my items are soaking. Those double sinks are useless and I am thrilled I no longer have to fight just to wash my pots and pans.
Yes! I obviously agree! lol
Great video! The corner sing was interesting and a little strange! I like the idea of being able to drip dry dishes with that big sink! Keep the awesome videos rolling! I’m a fan! Got any merch?
Maybe I need some mugs or shirts!? Lol
Thanks Rob!!
I want a large single sink with draining board on both sides and in India it's an 18x15-ish bowl with the total unit dimensions 20x59. I use stainless steel basins to soak wash greens etc and the double draining boards will come in handy to keep away from the sudsy washing up side and to keep the granite countertops from getting water stained
I'm all for the large stainless steel single. Currently have a double ceramic sink ... so old the sun shines thru it and I'm scared to wash anything in it. Getting a small bar sink put in on the far side of the range - we still have a good work triangle - however it will also be by the back door to the garden. Easy clean up coming into the house.
Love the workstation concept as I have an over the sink colander and some large chopping blocks.
Yeah those older ceramic sinks sure last but once you chip it, it can be a problem. Having the extra smaller sink is a great idea. Really increases the functionality in the kitchen.
I agree with your single large sink and getting a plastic tub if I wanted it
😂🤣 Corner sink! Madness 🤦🏼♀️ in the large sinks you could always use a plastic bowl to wash up a few items so no need to fill the vast bowl then stow it away underneath in the cabinet. Brilliant video thank you x
Thank you Barb! Appreciate that you watched it!
Excellent points, thanks! If I may comment please:
(1) Don't forget you can subdivide or make a sink capacity smaller with a washing up bowl - from very budget to expensive featured ones with their own drain or compartments (e.g. Joseph Joseph 'wash-and-drain-store'), can buy collapsible bowls.
(2) Very useful Mark giving the terms for the sink sizes, because when you buy one you'll probably hear the marketing labels which are designed to make sinks sound larger than they are. I've seen the smallest sink described as "large luxury". I took along my largest pan and bought the largest single sink that it fitted, at which point I was high enough up the range that it was labelled something like "extra large super luxury" etc.
(3) The corner sink shown, along with all the disadvantages Mark explains, is also set back too far from the worktop edge thus requiring you to lean over to use it.
Hey thanks for the comments. Really great points.
Very informative video There was only room for a 24" sink cabinet in our kitchen reno A single sink but we bought the deepest sink we could find At 10 inches deep and a dishwasher it all works I'm sure come the holidays that there will be some frustrating moments in cleaning large pans but I'll get over it.
Just hose them off in the back yard. lol. Thanks for watching George!
@@MTKDofficial Not allowed in the coop's garden. Nice idea though
Hi Mark- yes we should get sink that fits us and for us, one big sink for purposes you mentioned. Can u discuss next time differences or advantages/disadvantages for over or under mount. When it might be better one way or the other depending on type of counter u have. Or porcelain vs stainless steel? The builder gave us no choice but we did upgrade to quartz and chose one sink with faucet upgraded as well but sink was an under mount which I never had. Thanks as always for great content and helpful info! 👍🥰
Thanks Diane
For stone tops, I’m a fan of under mount. But there different reveals you can have too. The one with the least crevasses would be my go to. Hopefully I can answer your questions over the next month or so. All my content is focussed on sinks.
We're building our 3rd NEW home of our marriage.
Our NEW Kitchen will have 1 LARGE Stainless Steel sink!!!
More practical!!!
I can't wait to move in after Christmas!!!
Thank you for always talking HOME items!!!
I absolutely...LOVE it!!!
😁😊😀🥰👍
Wow! 3rd new home! That's exciting. Thanks so much for watching, and I agree with your sink choice 100% !!
@@MTKDofficial ..Yes, 3rd NEW Home Build in almost 39 years of Marriage.

Large sinks
Our kitchen has two sinks. One small, single sink is right next to the dishwasher, and my husband rinses dishes and loads them there, because only he has the extraordinary three-dimensional perspicacity to load the dishwasher. ; - ) The other sink is a double with built in stainless steel counters. There we wash vegetables, great big items, and hand washables such as knives. I wish now that I didn't have two equal-size basins, but one great big one and a smaller one for rinsing.
Large Single is great for washing small dogs too!
I briefly had a corner sink (+/- year) and it was a disaster! Water everywhere. Just finalizing my kitchen and YES to the large sink! I also once had the medium size with the tiny thing attached. I thought perhaps a good idea if larger sink occupied but I just kept my sponge and a rubber in there. 🤣
I hope your video about choosing sinks comes out soon because I'm about to have to make that decision. For years I have wished for an American style double sink because I have always washed dishes by hand. I like to use a dishpan but that's not too pretty. But I think I will take your advice, because we frequently use very large pots and I'm also getting my very first dishwasher at the age of 57. I hope I like it. Tbh I'm not totally sure. I wish you'd do some appliance choosing videos but I'm afraid they'd be too late for me. I'm especially confused about deciding between built in vs free standing units. Thanks for your help.
Hi Carol. In case you need that sink sooner than later, go with stainless steel at either 18 or 16 gauge. Very durable and looks great!
And you will love the dishwasher.
Thanks so much for your insight & humor. This is truly helpful for me. I grew up (and currently have) a double sink but have really only used one sink. The unused sink has a removable dish rack that slopes into the main sink. I guess it has its function :--) Be well.
Nice sink
I have a drop-in double sink now and hate it. Granite is being installed on Tuesday and I'm getting an undermount single sink with a grid on the bottom. I had that in the house we sold and loved it. I do hand wash some dishes and have no issues rinsing in the same bowl.
Excellent choice!! What colour granite did you choose?
Good info. Thank you.. Would you address workstation brands? So many options and price ranges. What gauge should a good, solid sink be?
Hey Cynthia.
16 or 18 gauge. I wouldn’t go with anything else.
I have one of those corner sinks and yes I hate it. But I have not had any issues with water leakage at the seam of the laminate which runs under it. However, I don’t have post formed laminate with beveled corners. I have plywood substrate with thicker sheet laminate. The widest sheet resulted in the least visible seam being under the front and back of the right sink bowl (which is the side I rinse on). I’m not sure when the previous owners remodeled, but I’ve been here 38 years (and wanting to remodel since a few months in!)
I guess I've always been different because a double sink was always my choice. I tend to use both sides for different reasons like doing dishes on the right and thawing out food on the left.
That's cool. Many people love using a double and there are so many styles and options that it's a great choice.
Hi Mark, your videos are very informative and I also enjoy your humour. Do you have a video where you discuss different types of materials for sinks?
Hi Louise! Thanks so much for watching. I appreciate it. I do have a video where I discuss some of the sink material options out there. Here's a link ua-cam.com/video/_7Fq72FfjqQ/v-deo.html
Thanks again!
@@MTKDofficial thank you. Greetings from South Africa.
I was hoping to hear about integrated stainless steel sink and countertop combinations (ie smaller versions of what you find in commercial kitchens but with the option of having regular kitchen cabinets underneath. There's so much to be said for stainless as a "landing surface" of either side of every vertex of your standard kitchen triangle...
I have seen those and will keep that in mind for another time for sure! Thanks for the input.
I find if I do food preparation of vegetables and fruit the double sink is by far more convenient. you can scrub rinse and prepare your vegetables in the sinks. yeah if you don't do much food preparation then a large sink may work.
One big sink works great for me. I use my dishwasher every day. I love that it fits big pots easily. And the faucet matters a lot.
Oh, and so glad I chose stainless steel because I hate lime residue.
Good point on the faucet. Love those large singles!
The best sink is a low divide. I came here to see how you feel about workstation sinks. Thanks
I love the workstation sink. So cool
@@MTKDofficial The workstation sink on my island is 60/40 with a low divide. No notch like some, just a rectangular sink with that low divide. I wanted that so I didn't have to fill such a huge sink to wash a few dishes. But now I have to decide where to put the faucet. I've seen it in the center, or closer to the divider. Since the divider is low I'm thinking center. Thoughts? Thanks!
I agree about the single basin sink being best. The divided sinks honestly suck. Especially for pans and draining things like pasta. It’s better to just get a dishwasher and enter the 21st century if you don’t have one. Completely worth the investment.
HI Mark! Love your videos. As an interior designer I can appreciate your point of view on things. Just curious how you feel about apron sinks in general. I’ve never had one, but spec them for clients who seem to love them. Thanks!
Hey Betsy! Thanks for saying hi. I too have never had an apron front, but I do like how they look and from what I can tell they help protect the sink base doors. I suppose they are not the right choice for every design circumstance, but I'd probably put one in my place if I were to renovate again.
I think another advantage to the apron front sink is your body is just closer and less bending over might be good too
We had a quartz counter top installed and chose the dual 50/50 SS undermount sink. I always use the sink to wash the dishes. Now I realize that every time you turn on the faucet, water drops wind up on the dividing portion between the two and I always have to dry them off. It seems like we should have installed a single SS sink and just used a dishpan on the left side as we do anyway with the double sink. Then we could simply remove the dishpan if we needed more area to wash larger items.
I've had both, a double and single sink with a wire tray below, I hated the single sink as the bottom got dirty and the wire tray was awkward to handle. A pain to have t remove it to clean the sink and a pain to store it if I chose to leave it off. That wire grill thing was large and not easy to find place where it would fit unobtrusively. Perhaps it might have worked better with a different type of faucet, the one I had was the tall U shaped one with a head that would not extend down far enough to use fully under the edges of the counter. The double sinks are a bit more convenient to my thinking.
Hey Manuel. Thanks for the comment. While obviously a single sink fan, I appreciate the point about having to remove the grid on the bottom.
@@MTKDofficial Also, one of the issues with my large single sink was that although it was large, some larger items used in cooking and other things, did not quite fit in, although naturally fit a lot better than in a smaller sink. Still, something abut the size of it was not ideal IMHO, probably as I said, it was the inadequate faucet head which could not get anywhere close to even half way into the sink.....
Just found your channel - now I'm binge watching. My question is what do you think of copper sinks? Pros? Con's? Worth the price? Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us
Hi Leslie! Thanks so much for saying "hi". I think copper is a great choice overall as long as it is a thicker gauge. There are many beautiful hammered copper options out there as well. Other than the "cons" of stainless sinks (noisy, don't hold heat, etc) I can't think of a good reason not to purchase one. As they age they get a really nice patina as well, which is one of the draws to copper.
@@MTKDofficial Thank you for the help. I'm use to stainless steel. Always use a dish pan so noise not an issue. Always have loved copper. Found a beautiful hammered copper sink so now its a go. 😉 Thank you again
We live in a severe drought climate, so water usage is a very big concern. I have a double sink, but have never done the math to see which method of hand washing conserves the most water. Filling up one side and piling clean dishes in the other side to run water over them to rinse, seems to work best in my house. Often, when watching cleaning videos in kitchens with one big sink, people leave the water running the entire time they are rinsing, loading, and hand washing, then cleaning the sink afterwards. Hmmm....
The 60/40 is the best in my opinion. The small sink works for all kinds of things and keeps food out of the way of the other dishes.
I like my 60/40 double sink. The larger side works fine for washing most of my pots and pans. So what if the bigger things need to be on an angle? It's never been a problem. And, even though I don’t hand wash dishes every day, it happens often enough that having a side for washing and a side for rinsing is invaluable.
What I really don’t understand is the popularity of the apron front sink. It looks like it would be too easy for waterto rin down the front and onto the cabinet and floors. Plus, I can't imagine not having my drop-down storage in the panel to hold my sponges and brushes.
My mother agrees with you. That was her double in the video and she said, "so what if you have to put it on an angle". lol.
Hi, wondering if after a year, you still like your 60/40 sink? I usually cook most of the time, so have big pans and on. I also do not have a dishwasher, this is one reason why I'm leaning to a 60/40 sink, so that I can you thr second one to dry my dishes. What brand of sink you have?
@@olgachavez2835 The 60/40 I have now is actually my second one. I got the first one in 2001. I really like them. They're nice and deep on the 60 side. My first one was a Kohler white enamel cast iron sink. They are way too expensive now, so I got a Franke stainless steel sink. It was expensive, but considerably less than the $1200 that the Kohler costs.
@@Sandikal Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes, I agree the Franke stainless steel sink is really nice. I ended up ordering a Kraus 60/40, it is also nice and deep and a little more affordable to my pocket.
Took my 35 years of searching, but I finally found my perfect sink. I thought it was the 80/20 split, but I was so wrong. I realized that the 80/20 split is just acting like a big single basin with a washtub in it. Something grandmothers have been doing forever. The downside of the 80/20 is that it's a struggle to wash big items. Really big items have to go in the bathtub.
A big sink with a wash tub gives me the best of all worlds.
Another bonus: There's only one drain to be plumbed underneath. Less plumbing = more space. For me, the offset single drain is a must.
I think the reason I've resisted the washtub idea my whole life is that all the ladies I grew up around used ugly, plastic wash tubs. Sometimes just a bowl. To me, it was a practical necessity, but not anything I liked. I really didn't want to look at an ugly, pink, plastic wash tub all the time.
Well, I found a beautiful, vintage enamel pan that'll fit my sink and my needs perfectly. Wash tubs don't have to be ugly!
I’m just finishing up a whole-house remodel, and went with a 36” wide sink base, with a 33” wide, extra-deep Ruvati stainless under-mount “workstation” sink. I have a rectangular plastic container (an old Tupperware) that I use to hand-wash small items. I use the colander and the roll-out drying rack a LOT - the latter just lives on one side of my sink, folded in half. I especially love the “rack” because it can go into the dishwasher. I cook a lot for large parties (at least will again once COVID wanes!), and I have LARGE baking sheets, roasting pans, etc. that were always frustrating to get clean with a double sink.
And I cannot even imagine the “thought” process that begat the monstrosity of the 90-degree corner sink. No. Just no. Never. Not even in an RV or tiny home. Nope.
Well, I'm on board! And yeah, that 90 deg sink? Thanks for watching Betsy!
Great vid, I really had no idea what that 0.5 little extra sink is for, and it seems like the inventors weren't too sure either! Very useful insights, thanks for the series. One thing, you didn't really define the way to measure the sink base - from where to where is this measurement taken? The countertop? Or is there some specific way to measure from underneath to take account of the need for sides / a lip around the edges of the sink to support it, eg for a top-sitting sink?
Thanks Adam! Appreciate you watching. From my experience, the sink model will dictate the size of the base needed. This is always the overall size of the cabinet. Most double or large singles take a 36" base. Of course if you go with a large workstation, the size may be custom. How the sink is plumbed is also a big consideration. Not so much for the sink base width, but how you are going to accessorize the interior to make it functional. This is great input and definitely something I'll add when I do other sink videos.
@@MTKDofficial Thanks for the reply. Sorry if I'm being a bit slow here, but may I just ask, when you say a 36" base, from where to where is that 36" exactly? Cheers for engaging!
Got a double because I need a spot to rinse food and the idea of rinsing my food where dirty dishes are being washed grosses me out. It might be clean but for me its the thought that brings me anxiety. So that divider is like a relief when I am rinsing food or draining pasta, etc.
You are sooo funny!
Hi Rebecca. Thanks for watching.
Good video. How about sink materials - stainless steel, ceramic, quartz, etc?
Hey Thanks! Check out this video for those options ua-cam.com/video/_7Fq72FfjqQ/v-deo.html
Will a farmhouse sink splash more onto me while I’m washing dishes? I know I want a under mount sink because it is easier to clean around it. I also heard that the beautiful faceted sinks are difficult to clean because the corners are not rounded. Choosing a sink is much more difficult than deciding between single or double bowl designs.
Hi Nancy. There is a lot to cover with sinks and that's why my next five or so uploads will be focused on the subject. Just didn't want to do it all in one super long video. Thanks so much for watching.
large single rt side drain
Definitely a large single sink.
I can't agree with you more. A large single is the best option and one of the reasons I'm redoing my kitchen.
Hey Michele! We've had them all and the large single is so great!
Great video! Whats your sink dimensions?
31" x 20" ( I think)
The grids in the bottom of the sink make it more difficult to clean. Does the grid help to make it so the faucet doesn’t splash or is it the faucet selection?
The grid really helps protect the bottom of the sink and it allows water and food stuff to rinse off into a disposal easier. It does need to come out to really clean the bottom.
I know the large single sinks are trendy, but when you just want to hand wash something, where do you put it to dry? We have a large 60/40 granite composite sink and the smaller side (still very functional at 12 in. across) always has a few things drying that would otherwise clutter up the counter. The only downside is that the undermount sink requires you to lean over and strain your back as opposed to an apron-front, which will be my next sink!
This is a great comment that highlights how we all may use our sink differently. While I love the large single bowl and never leave anything to air dry, you find the smaller bowl useful for that purpose. It's definitely not a one size fits all approach. Thanks for sharing!
Any thoughts on the Strictly Butterfly Workstation Corner Single Sink?
The only one I've seen was by Blanco. For a corner single, it's ok. Gets the job done.
What is the gauge and brand name of the single large sink that is low profile that you have in your house. I really like the look of it.
It's an Artika 16 gauge. Got is at Costco actually.
Any preference regarding installed soap dispenser? Or not?
I'm not a fan. Just an extra step to refill. If it's one that's easy to refill, I guess there's no harm in having one. Just not my preference. I'd rather use that extra hole for instant hot water.
Just put in a large single...Love it! So easy to clean big pans and roasters....we got composite material really like it.....do not miss my double sink at all.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!! Glad you love your new sink.
Is it ok to pour boiling water down a food disposal? I thought it wrecked it which is why I thought two sinks was better so I could pour boiling water down the non disposal side?
Good question. I'm not an expert on disposals. They are few and far between where I am. So that may be a consideration to make.
I've had the traditional 50/50 sink forever. I have never had a hard time washing any pot in it. Just think before hand when washing that's all, which means soak these pans while you are eating. Love the dual sink. Now if you have 1 sink that means you have no place to let your dishes/pans dry unless you drag out a special holder. What a pain in the butt to do, plus water gets all over the place.
Well said! I've had both and much prefer the single, but many people do prefer a double. Thanks so much for watching.
What brand of sink and faucet do you use in video?
Faucet is a Moen and sink is Artica
Handwashing dishes in a single with center drain/disposal is a nuisance. A large vintage single sink with hudee and drainboard is an "if we win the lottery" dream but for practical any large single with an offset drain is awesome.
Yes! Offset drain is the way to go. That's the only draw back to mine.
I like my 27” sink.
I want to replace the double overmount sink with a single sink. The existing sink is mounted on granite. Do I have to replace it with another overmount because, and I am guessing, the granite underneath doesn't have finished edges.
It's not likely the cutout is polished. So you'd have to go with a top mount. But that's not all bad. They make them with pretty thin edge these days.
Double sink in my house. No dishwasher. It's fine. We survive.
Sucks
Can you please share what the information about your countertop.
Well Colleen...it's a very rare countertop surface known as Laminate. lol. Highly coveted in the design space.
But seriously, it's regular ol' laminate. Someday we may put in a stone, but we decided it's either stone countertop or a hottub. Guess where the money went!!!?
@@MTKDofficial well on video it looks great, so I would say money well spent 👏🏼
Top mount? Undermount? Flush mount? Any comments on that?
Under mount with a zero reveal. Unless you have laminate and it’s top mount by default.
3:00 Sink-and-a-half reminds me (a brass player) of the late nineteenth century instrument we call a double-barrel euphonium, a type of tenor tuba with an alto horn built onto one side. I believe John Philip Sousa's kindest remark on this out-of-wedlock contraption was that it gives the player somewhere to put his gloves.
I'm going double-bowl because I plan to have a disposal.
Are there sinks which fill the entire 24” counter depth? Wouldn’t that save you from the waste/expense of quartz or granite where a big hole is just cut out and wasted?
Maybe an apron sink with integrated faucet mount. But I've never seen a full depth sink that would take up the entire 24". Sounds like it should be a thing though.
the thing that I don't like about the workstation sink are those little edges at the top for the accessories to sit on. That is is just time consuming to clean.
Yeah I wonder how much of a nuisance that would be? Do they get grimy?
If you already have a double sink with a garbage disposal on one side and a regular drain on the other side, how hard is it to replace the double sink with a large single sink?
Nothing a plumber couldn't handle, or someone who's handy with plumbing. You may want to look for a sink with an offset drain (right or left).
What sink is shown at the 5:42 mark? Thank you.
I'm not sure if it's Kraus or American Standard? It is a fairly common top mount single with low profile reveal. I have the same one and picked it up at Costco.
Some of us don’t have a choice to have a single sink , we are off the grid and don’t have a dishwasher or garbage disposal.
Then double is the way to go 100%
I like the idea of centering the sink under the windows, but it just won't work with the space I have. I have to replace the drain system (90-year-old cast iron) but the geometry has to work.
"Hot on the left, cold on the right, payday is Friday, and sh---sewage don't flow uphill."
As for sink type, I have a brand-new double-bowl undermount to fit a 36-inch sink base in my appliance storage location, along with my new one-horsepower Insinkerator disposal.
Well, sink drainage is probably more important that location if you have to choose. lol
I've never had a work station sink, but to me they seem too complicated, and I suspect that all the attachments would frustrate me especially if I wanted to remove them to wash my larger items.
I think I would constantly be looking for a place to put the attachments.
Yeah I wonder the same thing and I’d probably just stuff them all away and use the massive sink.
@@MTKDofficial I put the extra pieces under the sink and pull them out when I need them. The space under the sink is two large plastic bins to corral things (including the insert sink and strainer) and a small unit that has two shelves and a drawer. It's awesome.
I am going with a single bowl 32"x18" Do you consider that a large bowl? The actual bowl size will be 30 inches.
That's a great size.
I agree one large sink is best, I hand wash and keep a wash bin under the sink.
My current sink is a sink and a half. The half is 17”x6”. Not very useful. I do like to wash my dishes, but only because I don’t have a dishwasher. Once my kitchen is done, I’ll have a dishwasher. I’m considering getting a single sink. Not sure if I’ll regret it or not.
For us at least, we have never regretted getting a large single. just saying!
Never saw the poll. Bummer UA-cam
Grrr.
Well hopefully you’ll see the next one.
Hello. May I ask why not a Large single sink plus a small single sink? Does it not look good? Or is it a matter of space?
From my experience having one, the little sink was too small to be very useful and the large sink wasn't large enough. It depends on what your needs are of course, but I found it more of a pain than anything. As far space goes, you can get both kinds to fit the same space. However, if you are limited space, I err on the side of the largest single you can get. But that's just me.
@@MTKDofficial I very much appreciate your answer. When I referred to a large and a small, I was talking about large (75 cm more or less) and small (40 cm, not so small actually)... but maybe that is a bit too much? We handwash everything in my house. But from the aesthetic point of view, i am not 100% of that size
disposer in the large single sink ?
I don’t see why not.
Don't know if this a US thing but a lot of your pictures didn't have a draining board which in the UK most of us do. Does that not get annoying, not having anywhere to put the wet dishes etc?
Intersting. I don't know a single person with a drainboard and in 20 years have never had a client install one. I'm in Canada, but I assume the States would be similar. I would love a drain board come to think of it. I wonder if that trend will catch on here?
@@MTKDofficial Ah sorry Canada… Yes has always been that way here, more people starting to get draining grooves routed into the worktop now if they have an under mount sink. We are doing our kitchen and wondering what to get, my concern with under mount is getting grime in the join
Mark, thank you for the schooling on sinks. However, the background music was too loud and distracting. I had the mute:(
Hi Diana. Thanks for the input. I've scrapped background music altogether in later videos. Sorry it took away from the content. Appreciate you watching!
Who doesn't enjoy a large single? I think I'm going to try to convince Lindsay to do one in the kitchen
That's gonna be a tough sell bud. lol
I have one question about when it comes to massive cooking with one single sink. What if I touch raw chicken and need to wash my hands, but I have dirty dishes in the sink because I’m still in the middle of cooking? What if those dirty dishes are baby bottles? Is this sink more tailored to people who will immediately wash/rinse a dish and load into dishwasher?
I desperately want a single sink because of the looks but where would I put dirty dishes and where will I wash my hands?
Very good point. It may be a better approach in this situation to have that separate sink space. We are past that stage of life, but when we were we had a double sink. Not for that reason, but it was just the popular thing to do. However, if the dirty dishes need to be washed or sterilized, as in baby bottles, is the had washing from touching raw chicken a concern? Overall, function looks different at different stages of life and this might be a case for the double.
@@MTKDofficial I am so sorry, I never got a notification that you responded. Excellent point about different stages of life and you are absolutely correct, it has to be sterilized. I have extreme OCD about germs and wash my hands constantly. Sometimes I get so caught up in not spreading the bacteria, that I forget about all the preparations I take after to keep a clean environment.
We were planning on redoing our kitchen, but now in the process of building our dream home. I still want the single basin sink, so I decided to get a bin to keep dirty dishes out of sink when we are cooking.
