Nicely done, bud 👍 I thought the MVSX and Dragon's Lair would be my last machines to grab for my collection...but I need a Class of 81 now, too! I would be happy with either or versions, but the new Deluxe form factor is just so stellar!
I want to upgrade from the og, but I realized I can wait. What I need to get is the mk2 deluxe so I can play too!

I think there is fun to be had in every model of The Class of ‘81 … even the Countercade that I have.
The gameplay is similar in all …
That said, if you want EXACTLY the original actual arcade game, the get it, period.
But for people like me, the Arcade 1ups are a welcomed product at a price point and form factor we can live with.

Perfectly said! Love the formfactor and the size, weight and appreciate the recreation of the original. Online leaderboards. People can crap on them all they want. I love them for what they are
Great break down
There's a Class of 81' cabaret version at the Buffalo Wild Wings near me. It's about 5 ft. tall with a 19" monitor. It's pretty close in size to the arcade1up version with a smaller marquee on it. Maybe that's the size and style they were going after.
That's a good point. I never seen a cabaret in person. Arcade1up needs to go xl and do 19 inch screens. This would be amazing to have in the home.
Also, looking at the “real” machine, I keep thinking how amazingly accurate an XL version could look. The XL cabs even have bigger marquees just like the real class of 81! The real arcade is 68 inches tall; the XL cabs are about 67 inches tall. The real cab is about 24 inches wide; XLs are like 22.5 feet niches wide, etc…dimensions match up very well!
Very good point. I really think xl cabinets is really what they should stick to. 3/4 scale is cool and all, but the xl series has been great to look at and tends to make the average consumer think they are getting a recreation of a full sized cabinet
Yeah that’d be awesome. I’d for sure buy an XL version. Even though they would be bigger they still weigh only a third or a fourth of that of the OG. Much more practical for residential use to move it around

Now I haven't seen the Legacy Class of 81 in person, but I've heard the monitor is great and I'm glad you have one, so I can hear your perspective. I have the Namco Legacy Pac-Man with 12 games and it's supposed to have the same model of BOE monitor. Now the Deluxe Class of 81 is supposed to also be rocking the same model BOE monitor, but here's the problem. The model of BOE monitor can't display correctly at that more recessed angle found in the Deluxe cab. Now I think the Deluxe cab design looks cool, mimicking more the commercial design, but I wouldn't sacrifice picture quality just to get a different shaped cab and a better looking marquee. I feel I would be doing you a disservice if I didn't let you know what's up.
As the clips of the Deluxes you show in this video, you can see the screen uniformity issues that produce a moving washout as the camera moves around the cabinet. I really wanted to upgrade my Legacy Pac-Man with the Deluxe version, mainly because it had two extra games I wanted, but because I watched so many videos showing the screen issue on the Deluxe, and the fact that many were glossing over it, not mentioning it at all, or trying to say the monitor was perfect, I decided to see if I could find these Deluxe cabinets in person to see for myself. I was able to find the Class of 81 and Pac-Man Deluxes, as well as the Pac-Man XL. And I hate to be the barer of bad news, but these screen uniformity issues are real.
Again, from what I've heard, the picture quality on the Class of 81 Legacy is stellar. I would hate to see you downgrade the great cabinet you already have by picking up a "Deluxe" version that Arcade1Up couldn't be bothered to put a proper model of BOE monitor that could handle the new recessed angle of the design. I don't want to write a book here, but if you have the time, I recommend checking out a chapter in my review for the Namco Pac-Man Legacy Edition, titled Picture Quality. It will explain more about my experience and what's going on.
Now we all aren't the same, and something that may bother me, may not bother another person, but I greatly encourage you to see the Class of 81 Deluxe in person before making a decision to buy and view the screen from all angles and distances. I think you'll be greatly surprised at how well your Legacy performs light years better than the Deluxe when it comes to picture quality. I hope this helps.

Wow, thank you so much for the in depth analysis of the difference in monitors. I had no Idea it went that deep. I know theres different lvds and signals and things like that but that's crazy. I would never get rid of my legacy class of 81 the way it stands right now. It's a great cabinet. I szabos the marquee and I'm much happier with it now. Again thank you!
I see what you mean about the shade of blue they used on the OG and the deluxe. The deluxe looks real close to the right blue. I subbed too.
Yeah it's crazy, you gotta hand it to arcade1up as much as people complain, they are listening, and improve these things while still trying to make them affordable.

I personally don't mind risers and i own a fullsize Golden tee fore and pinball along with 4 A1ups and no problems with riser, his blacks do look better but i like the screen more upward!
Yeah! So here you have arcade accurate, and then with mine you have a comfy and convenient model. Lol I just wish my marquee was better.
I bought the same exact joystick you did, and it was just as low as yours. The real control deck is much shallower than the A1Up, so a real joystick isn't tall enough. I ended up swapping it out for something suited to A1Up.
That's probably a great idea. Love the feel of the joystick but yeah I want it to be a little longer
Great comparison bud, man. Do you think a third party will make a bigger, “oversized” marquee for the 1up deluxe?? Of course it can’t be too big but I think 1up could have made it a little bigger, a little oversized without disrupting the viewing angle.
Not really sure, atleast with the deluxe cabs. Like my og I'm really thinking it could work for sure.
The ROM used on the GEN 1 Galaga (NON LIT MARQUEE) is WAY BETTER than the ROM used on the newest version of DIG DUG , MS. PAC MAN.... Or any other cab.

Thank you for the comparison! I have a question regarding the game play. Is the gameplay exactly the same between the three (no lag or anything)? On the original Galaga, you can perfeom a "cheat" that keeps the enemies from being able to fire (they can still fly into you, though). I was wondering if this "cheat" can be performed on the arcade1up machines as well.
Yes you can do that on the arcade1up version
As for your other question it feels the same for me I don't notice any lag. I added an authentic 4 way joystick to mine so maybe the movement is more responsive because of the better joystick?

So the recessed screen version has the best marquee ?
Yeah I would say so. It's backwards printed on clear acrylic like it's supposed to be. The colors look good to me. Compared to my washed out crap and the real arcade which is faded

Keep on buying these fake Ms Pac-Man Galaga arcade 1 ups that don’t deliver the original Ms Pac-Man Galaga experience I own the original upright and Pac-Man Galaga since 2004 it sounds different you can continue after you lose all your lives you can also play Pac-Man a bonus game so arcade 1 up is tricking people who don’t own the original arcade machines that they are getting what they paid for it’s great you get more games then the original arcade machine but at least make them play the same

@@KaoticBPR you wouldn’t if you owned the original arcade machine cause you would know you were tricked this isn’t the first time arcade 1 up tricked us they tricked us on the teenage mutant ninja turtles arcade 1 up doesn’t come with the original theme song sounds very different if you press the button you won’t hear April saying help me or shredder saying tonight on die on turtle soup I got tricked and that’s why now I watch UA-cam before buying another arcade 1 up since they don’t release the official arcade games roms I take my purchases seriously I buy what’s real not what’s fake
I stopped buying arcade 1 ups 3 years ago after seeing they cheat I agree they cheat just look what they did to teenage mutant ninja turtles wrong theme song sounds different you press the button you can hear April or Shredder speak that’s a big F on Arcade 1 up
@@samamir8765 I own many arcade1ups because of the novelty. Multiple real arcade machines let alone one is not fitting inside of my house and its definitely not fitting in majority of other peoples houses. As well as these things being 40+ years old me and many other people dont have the time and knowledge to constantly be repairing them when they break down
