Gold is the best bet against inflation . The importance of gold can be understood in its origin . Gold reached Earth after super nova explosion . So it has got an extra terrestrial origin . Infact he was the one who was about to introduce GOLD (actual gold) DINAR as a currency. He also wanted other Arab nations to adopt it as their own currency & also begged them not to peg their currencies against US$.
Saudi Arabia's King and President Obama didn't like him much because he openly condemned their relationship with US at various forums. Thus, Saudi Kingdom allowed USA to fuel a coup against him. Rest we all know what happened. That dream of Gold Dinar currency was also buried with his death. Look at Libya now, once a thriving oil rich nation under Gadaffi is in total shambles today.
Sadaam Hussain was killed for a totally different reason i.e. OIL and Iraq's increasing dominance in OPEC - (again) Saudi didnt like it neither did their long time ally ie. USA!!
Lastly, I dont think China is accumulating Gold because it wants to introduce a gold currency, but it is accumulating gold because it is making lot more money and faster than any other nation in the world. Hence, its investment avenues are also getting limited. Its infrastructure investment in various countries is not yielding good returns eg. Sri Lanka, Pakistan, South East Asia or even in Africa. They have all turned kinda bad debts. Gold being a steady investment provides much better returns than investing in these poor countries who are unable to even return Chinese investments and at the end, China also ends up being tagged as a land grabber.
