Great info. There are a few differences between my regular league play and BCA. Thanks!
These rules are very complicated and very precise. (9:50) A frozen ball may be struck and no ball go to a rail and it be a legal shot. You could pocket a ball. 🤯
Yeah, caught that after I uploaded the video.
This was helpful. Are you brushing up for the big tourney? Best wishes!
The BCA league I play in 2 coaching opportunities are allowed, with only one person as a coach, it also must be a team mate that is an active player in the match. Some teams have more than 5 players, one or more will sit out that week.
I think my comment was deleted, but I wanted to give a followup. WPA rules (used by CSI/BCAPL) doesn't specifically say it's a foul, although that might be implied. WPA open table section 2-5 says "The table is always open on the shot after the break and remains open until groups are
established. When the table is open, all object balls except the 8-ball are legal object
balls. For combination shots, a ball of one group may be contacted first to pocket a ball
of the other group. The 8-ball may be part of such a combination if it is not the first ball
contacted by the cue ball." This seems to imply that hitting the 8 first is a foul, but it could be interpreted in a more limited way that it just can't hit first to establish groups, which is what BCA rules state.
1-19 Legal Shot (AR p. 87)
1. For a shot to be legal, the first ball contacted by the cue ball must be a legal object ball, or a simultaneous hit with a legal and illegal object ball may occur. After that contact: a. b. any object ball must be pocketed, or; any object ball or the cue ball must contact a cushion. It is a foul if one of those requirements is not met.
@@billiards4U I think it comes down to what's legal on an open table, which is a special case. I also wanted to mention that CSI owns BCAPL but not BCA. And CSI seems to use WPA rules for 8 ball. It's the "BCA" and "WPA" that appear to differ on whether it's legal to contact the 8 first on an open table. BCA says it's fine. However, in neither case is it allowed toward establishing a group. I'm still looking for a definitive answer if there is any circumstance in which it's not a foul to contact the 8 ball first on an open table under CSI rules.
