They play Armee der Tristen at the tour 2022, I saw it live in prague on 15th of mai as opener and it was a brutal sound and so god damn powerful, love this song!

"trist" in German has a lot of meaning and can be used to descripe a lot of things ... for example ... completely unattractive, desolate, monotonous, deserted, joyless, sad, boring, gloomy, depressed, poor, needy, hazy, greyish, rainy, hoplessly, ... "Armee der Tristen" is the Army of those who feel and/or are like this!

To me it's about those in society who feel not being heard or forgotten. And they are being invited by those who profit from their unhappiness. Such as extremist group for example. Can't wait to enjoy the song at the concert. With love from Germany 🤘 😎

I think what you said at the beginning is the most realistic interpretation, them talking to the outcasts of society, a lot of whom may be Rammstein fans (even though Rammstein have become pretty mainstream in Germany these days, they have fans in all levels of society....) and I also think the whole album has a theme around this maybe being their last album, and it's inviting Rammstein fans for a last gathering, a last get-together. To be sad together. :)

Till is kind of sad, introvert people. I feel that some of other band members are too. At the other hand their music is specific and very suitable to depressed, sad, fucked up people. I am one of those. And I feel this song is written for us - that specific group of fans - to tell us that we are not alone, because they can feel us and they feel the same, so let's march together.
Maybe I am wrong, but I feel it that way and I have a huge wish to hug each one of the band members for those words and for being there. It means a lot to me.

With marching against happiness he doesnt mean to be pessimistic but to march against the need of luck (gegen Glück = against Luck) they dont want to need luck to be happy. We want to take our lives in our hands

  • @Hadmin
    @Hadmin 2 роки тому +2

Marching "against" something might be a translational error, also found in Swedish. Namely "Mot" (Moot) it is used as both against and towards a destination.
It might be Marching towards happiness, not against it.

  • @user-hv7jv8bb6c
    @user-hv7jv8bb6c 2 роки тому +3

I thank it works in many ways, as usual for Rammstein.
First, as a concert and album-opener, it is a direct successor to Rammlied:
    Wenn die Freude traurig macht
    Keine Sterne in der Nacht
    Bist du Einsam und Allein
    Wir sind hier, schalte ein
    When joy makes sad
There are no stars in the night
    Are you secluded and alone,
    We are here, switch on…
In German, the connection between these songs is more obvious, but it shows even in translation.
Of course, all the Rammfan anthems since Ich will were peppered with irony. Rammstein don't want their fans to take it too seriously, so in Ich will they sang "we want you to trust us, we want you to believe us in everything", in Rammlied it was a semi-totalitarian "One way, one goal, one motive", here it is that marching against happiness and the founding of the party of Hopeless. It is a joke, but it's a joke with much truth in it.
But Armee der Tristen also works as a song about other songs in the album. Melancholic? Depressed? Diabolic? -- each one has his song there.

i agree with you on the first half of your interpretation: "talking to the outcast." i think "marching against happiness" is marching against the current common interpretation/associated goals to earn "happiness". that vague thing which pursuit left you outcast, confused and feeling alone. throw aside what others tell you makes you whole and join those who feel similar; left out of common "happiness". it is a sweet song :)

Very good opening, with musical, strong chorus. Lyrically errinter itself very strongly to "Rammlied". The text calls the listeners to join, to become part of the dark world of Rammstein. And forms a strong collective.
I could well imagine that it is the last record of the Berliners, because the fact that the upcoming tour is imminent and usually lasts 2 years and the 6 Berliners all go to the 60ig to......and so many songs on the album is about farewell, renunciation acts....
Whether it's really time to go, only time will tell. Both options are legitimate. Also insist on a complete end of this band after over 25 years band.....Hope it does not

    • @geddon8771
      @geddon8771 2 роки тому +3

Thats so funny... cause the complete album doesn't leave any real hint for that worry (that this could be their last record) ...I can't find nothing but provocation. intentional provocation? Probably! But this is RAMMSTEIN. Look at Metallica, GaR, Iron Maiden, ACDC, Rolling Stones.... these are musicians as long as they are, they cant do other than making music together... Im pretty sure. And this song describes exactly this negativity our civilization has become sick of- at least in my opinion.

Hi! Great video! As a German Goth I think I can shed some light on the meaning of the lyrics. I am about 99% sure that Rammstein speak to the goths here. It's a friendly ironic mocking of the goths celebrating their sadness and of their dance style. In German black scene clubs you can often see people forming lines and march with synchronized steps.

To be honest, I was thinking the same. Of course it is not official, but if it would be their last one, I think it is, because nowadays there are so many delicate flowers out there, that even this comment I just make, might offence someone and I could understand, if they would say:"that's it." And yes, some of the yellow press in Germany, just "tore them apart" another time, before they came in very strong in the charts in several countries and I did not hear that they where apologising for their disrespect! And yes, even the strongest gets impacted by those "critics". thanks for your reaction and enjoy the weekend.

To me it is very obviously a social critical song about one of the the main problems in our world. Depression, pessimism, the prohibition to feel happy have become a widespread disease in this world. In these times (but also before) millions and billions of people infect others with their negativity. Theres no other way, that "come, we march in lockstep against happiness" is meant in a cynical way and with alot of symbolism. Lockstep... everybody is doing it the same way like in the army "Armee..." immediately I get the military feeling from that with a high command and compliant behavior, obeying or in this case rather getting enticed
...and to all the hopeless out there. I think the message is rather:
of course you can "join" and be sad and negative ...but youll never be happy then. Be aware of the price you have to pay!
To me this song isnt only a show opener but also an eye opener!😃
...its not worth it being down all the time and you are the only one that can give you permission to be happy!
    Greetz from Germany✌️

We want to be sad together
Come with me, come with me
Why are you still on the sidelines
    Join our gang
    When we march in the
sadness Nothing at all, Nothing can happen to you
    Hand in hand, never alone
Hand in hand, don't look back
    Come, we'll close our ranks
    Marching in lockstep against luck
Come with me, get in line Come with me
    , in step
Come with me, get in line and
    come with me, in lockstep
    Depressed, saddened, battered
    Should we despair together
    Depressed and melancholy
    Pessimistic, diabolical Grounds
    on faded roses
    The party of the hopeless
    Join, join
    Everyone can be
    Come
in hand in hand, never alone
Hand in hand, don't look back

Without the Corona break, this record would not have existed at all, or at least in 2-3 years. There are enough little hints that this won't be the last album. Alone in the Zick Zack magazine, it says very small: We are far from finished. So why? Because of the song "Adieu"? Rammstein wrote such songs 20 years ago. I don’t think they want to create a army with marching and stuff because of German history and they are anti conformity. So for me it’s a criticism against society / right wing forces that capitalize on sad and dull people(this is the meaning of trist sad/dull unimaginative/stupid). Also the rose is a symbol of socialism which could be a reference to the part of Germany which belonged to the Soviet Union before reunification and where right winged parties have the biggest approval rates in Germany.

  • @nyoodmono4681

This might me social criticism again. Because it seems like the mainstream is kind of 'Doomer' nowadays. That atitude that everything sucks and the world is suffering , people talk about depression almost like it is a commendation. Dictartoship of the pessimistic normies that put themself in a lethargic loop. But maybe it is just once again Rammstein slipping in the shoes of a dark wierd mind, this time nihillists.
